In England I have this unit, each year in winter the batteries are too low to transmit to the base /display unit. I made a solar unit to overcome the poor battery charging in this season. I bought a larger 5V solar collector and a DFrobot solar charger V1.0, a 1000mAh 3.7V Lithium battery pack and a small box to put them all together, now I have no problem in low light conditions.
The manual actually suggests that the mounting pole is as far away from the temperature sensor as possible. So, any heat generated by the mounting pole in summer doesn't affect the temperature sensor.
Ok, so far. Couple of pointers; mounting directly on the roof, (1) pre-drill the lag screw holes with 1/8" holes (assuming 1/4" lag screws. Put a 1/2" roofing cement (black tar like, it will prevent water leaks). (2) Mount the base on to the roof with the four lag screws. (3) mount the pole to the base and check for vertical with a small level. (4) finally mount the weather station with the solar panel facing north (southern hemisphere) or south (I am in Colorado, northern hemisphere. NOTES: (1) set the assembly in sunshine to top off the battery charge. (2) fine tune the orient the wind vane to your readout will give an accurate North
I don't like WUnderground because WU writes every only 5 minutes updated for minimum and maximum. I want every maximum 16 seconds updated to write min/max.
Do I detect a Southern Hemisphere accent? This very clear presenter ask for the solar panel to be oriented (orientated for the locale?) but here in the Northern Hemisphere, I believe we are to orient it to the south. Am I correct?
If you live in the southern hemisphere, the north is where the sun is most of the year. If you're in the northern hemisphere, it's the other way around.
