    Thank's a lot Emilie for this informative report! Now I am decided to get this lightweight high-quality recorder, because I mainly film outdoors in the nature, on long walks and hiking tours in our Swiss mountains.

    Hello Emily! I love your videos! I have the LS-P4 and got the LS-P5. The new features are welcome and make using the Camera much better and more enjoyable! However, I have the impression that the material quality of the LS-P4 is much better, metal, and the use of the retractable USB is ingenious. With the LS-P5, which like the new OM-5 uses the disappointing micro-USB, I have the impression that the PC interface has become more irritating. But overall I can say it was a worthwhile upgrade. But I will keep my old and qualitatively and materially superior Olympus equipment forever! No other Camera manufacturer made so good Cameras and equipment as Olympus did (maybe only Leica) in terms of material quality! Maybe because of that they were not profitable! :(

    Thank you for the review. I need a multipurpose recorder, for both video (like you use it), field recording and note taking, and I expect sometimes also for recording live performances of various kinds (theatre, music etc.). It seems to me this is one of the best choices for a "catch all" pocket size recorder (which is a requirement for me). Your quick run down of the features you like helps me understand where this fits in, and what it can do.

    Merci! All the information I was looking for. I've been using the Olympus LS-14 for about 6 years now and it's been excellent, and the LS-5 looks to have the improvements I've longed for, such as Bluetooth Monitoring, Improved center mic and the rear mounted 1/4 20 mounting lug.
    The lug on my LS-14 disinterested today but removing the back cover revealed the lug is easily replaceable but I was not able to find a replacement online. Hopefully the LS-P5 is also replaceable and available, and if so, it would be a big plus as if damaged you would not have to buy a new recorder.

      I have both of them. The LS14 has more better sound quality.

      @@sertopeter Interesting to know, thanks. Maybe I'll stick with the LS-14. I found out that Olympus no longer offers replacement parts for the LS-14, like the replaceable tripod mounting lug. I was however able to epoxy a 1/4-20 brass insert in the hole where I removed the lug from. Seems sturdy enough and hope it holds.

      I asked the OM System, why by the specs i don't found the frequncy response from the intern mics by the LSP5. I don't became any answer, but i bought them. That was a fail, i bought for interesting a new LSP4 also, test come later. :)
      But, the LSP5, when you has a LS14, i don't can recomend.

      @@sertopeter Thank you very much for the insights. Very useful what you observe about the audio quality being lower with the LSP5 and LSP4 compared to the LS-14. Might the difference be due to just frequency response alone, as with 24-bit differences with frequency response should be able to compensated for with Post EQ, or if the difference has to do with the quality of microphones and pre-amps, and possibly noise rejection?
      The LS-14 is quite good for background audio for film and music but not as good for voice recording as a quality directional mic that costs as much or more than the LS-14 at the same distance, and I suspect that's due to the LS-14 having smaller and less sensitive microphone capsules

    I just got an LS-P5 and was looking around for accessories and found that the OM SM2 shock mount appeared to be a rebranded item identical to the Movo SMM5-B, only $40 versus $15. $15 sure seemed a lot more reasonable for what that kind of mount. I am currently looking for a more reasonable wind jammer that is the same size as the Olympus/OM WJ-2 Wind Jammer. $40 for that is just crazy. Has anyone found a reasonably priced alternative? Do you have a favorite case to protect the recorder while it is in your bag? Thanks for any suggestions and I love all of your videos.

    I still have my LS-100. Only thing about it that is not that great is connectivity to the newer cameras. Other than that the sound quality is superb. I hope they come out with a LS-200 with all these features.

    Bonjour Emilie,
    Thanks for this nice video !
    Well, in the wonderful updates of the LS-P5, did you notice that OM system forgot to implement a very useful feature,, whereas it was available in the LS-P4, as well as in many other previous models from Olympus ?
    Yes, it is the Voice Guidance system, very useful for blind and visually impaired people like me.
    So, as it was developed by Olympus for a long time ago, in my opinion, it’s a shame that OM System doesn’t implement it anymore in this new recorder.
    As an ambassador, maybe should you tell them about it ?
    Merci beaucoup !

    Hello Emilie. Thanks for a great video. I notice that you are using the Olympus branded shock mount. I have the LS-P4 and am thinking of getting the LS-P5 after watching your video that identifies the improvements. I use the Rycote shock mount with the LS-P4. I was wondering whether you have a view on which shock mount is best for the LS-P5 in terms of filtering out handling noise. I would also add one further important observation. Your video shows that the LS-P5 unlike the LS-P4 no longer uses the adapter to screw onto a normal mount. This is a very significant improvement. The adapter for the LS-P4 is flimsy and I had the unfortunate but probable experience of having the adapter break off leaving a screw stub stuck inside the small LS-P4 mount hole. In trying to get it out I did more damage to the LS-P4 and had to send it back to Olympus for repair. It cost £83. I can see the likelihood of this happening again if I am not too careful. The LS-P5 eradicates this problem and on that score alone is a worthwhile upgrade!

    • @EmilieT
      @EmilieT  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad it is helpful. I am not familiar with the Rycote Shock mount but it looks similar to its Olympus counter part so I would say try it first. It should work.

    Thanks for the video, Emilie. I'm looking at buying a microphone for my OM - 1, which I mainly use for wildlife stills, but there are times when a video is the best way of capturing the action. I always use the EVF and find it very easy to change from h/h stills to h/h video without looking away from the EVF.
    You mentioned that the mounting point for the P5 has been moved so it reduces the overhang. Is this enough to allow me to use the EVF for video as described above?

    I read some reviews pointing out that the self noise of the LS-P5 was really a problem.
    What self noise do you notice?

      @EmilieT  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am not sure I understand what they are referring too. No noise coming from my lsp5.

    •  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@EmilieT Thanks Emilie. When you ajust your levels to record a voice for example, you manage to be between -12 and -6 db and never reach 0. Then, if in the same conditions, you record silence, the self noise is the level of remaining sound recorded. It's some kind of latent parasite sound that could be between -30 to -60 bd. What level is it for the LS-P5?
      Thanks

      @@LivinginASMR I would suggest Galvin basic set up tutorial: th-cam.com/video/MWnfciRPhfA/w-d-xo.html. On top of this, I play with the Zoom limiter. To use it as a shotgun microphone, click on the menu button, go to Rec Setting, then Zoom Mic and use the - button to decrease the field range of your audio recording and to transform your recorder into a shotgun (giving you a narrow sound pickup range). If you are in a meadow at sunset and want to capture the environmental sounds of birds, crickets, and other insects, then go through the same process and increase your field of audio using the + arrow. This will give you a broader sound pickup range. This feature allows you flexibility with your recording.
