Thanks for doing this review. I'm pondering picking this up since it's on sale on Steam.

You're welcome. 60% Off is an amazing price for this game and well worth it.

    100 hours!!
I'm just starting on the second arc now. I think one super strong point in this game is how the protagonist and deuteragonist connect. I haven't experienced any story where it focuses on a man who can't feel pain and a women who is cursed to cause pain. This made the first 20 hours in the game one of the best jrpg experiences that I've had in this generation!
I definitely agree that past the 3rd lord though the game's story has felt very disconnected. The dialogue and reactions are completely disconnected sometimes leaving me confused on why they are acting or doing things in a certain way. It also felt like they ran out of budgeting, were time crunched or they had some kind of major development team members changes. Cause you can tell they focused heavily on the hook of the game but so far in the middle certain things were glanced over with the combat and story.
Excited to see the second arc though nonetheless, this game has been an incredible experience thusfar!
Thank you for the review ^_^

@cathy brown Yes! Well worth the time if you're craving an action combat jrpg with an interesting story set-up.

How would you rate the difficulty curve in getting comfortable with the combat system?

That's a great question. The combat is reasonably intuitive and they do ease us into it with only a few difficulty spikes in the game. Plus it has multiple difficulty settings. I played it on Normal but someone who wants to focus on the story could play it on Easy or someone who wants more of a challenge could play it on Hard.

Nice review, i dont always agree with you but thats fine, we shouldnt all always agree. Anyways, i was bored with Arise, but tbh i get bored with every tales of game. They are so formulaic, as are all jrpg's since japan really is scared to update w/e their formula is. Its just another jrpg to me, its got its moments but after like 20 hours of the same over and over i quit i just couldnt keep doing the same thing over and over the way it wants you to. It for sure is not a bad game and i see why people like it but id really lke them to let go of some of those things that feel far too dated (i hate saying dated, but for a lack of a better word). A mix of western and eastern style rpg is ideal for me. I much prefer the western style of open world goings, as do i like it when new armor pieces change the look of your toon, even if its small, it feels good. I really hate how they released this DLC, im sick of it.
And the fact that Arise got forgiven for all the DLC crap and p2w esque things and dumb packs, makes me mad. JRPG fans let it go and forgive them but at the same time the same people will attack ANY western dev for doing any kind of DLC like that, theres so much hipocrisy when it comes to fans that defend japanese devs, including anime and manga and games.
I digress, im really tired and ranting, thanks for the review, i trust your takes

I actually generally agree with you. An indie game that does what this one effectively does but with a little more heart and character is Edge of Eternity (and comes in at half the price). I don't want to say that the DLC in this game was forgivable for me. After Tales of Berseria, this franchise had built up a lot of goodwill with me and so I was eager for Tales of Arise. I will be much more skeptical about buying the next one.

@@PrettyGuardian I agree edge of eternity is a fantastic game. I never finished it but i need to go back and re do it from the start. I really enjoyed what i played.
My issue with this dlc is that it even exists. It shouldnt. Also, with the tales of fanbase. They turn a blind eye to the issues at hand while attacking others for the same types of things. But thats an entirely different topic and problem. Its just a thing i notice.
