Well said. The cow that can thrive: in your operation, with your specific challenges, without extra attention, is the one that wins.... I've got some very similar comparisons at my place. Thanks for posting.

Your grasses look beautiful, you can see why the cows are doing so well. It is amazing to see the differences in the same breed of cow. One looks like a hippo the other a greyhound. But if you farming for fast cows I bet the second one would out run ole tubby. How do her calves look?

It is said there is as much or more variation within a breed than there is between different breeds.

Looking good! How long have you run SP cattle? We have a few also. We’re in south central Missouri

I don’t, but a quick search should pull up plenty

To me that bony cow looks like it needs culled.

I agree 100%. She’ll get her chance but I suspect she won’t breed back

Have you considered quitting while you are ahead and culling the bony hairy cow before you put in the bulls.
The poorer cows eat as much as the good cows but do not give the same quality of calves

@@finbarrdinneen3430 I have. I just have a quirky view on fairness. All the cows have one job: to raise a healthy calf to weaning age. As long as they do that, they keep their job.

@@grazing365 Yes but it's impossible for her to make a calf without giving it half of her genetics. So if the calf goes with her if she were mine and she bred back. BTW, how'd she do?
