We had planned to stay in Sitka but, effective October 1st, they raised the transient moorage rate from $6 per foot to $14.75 per foot per month. Now we are glad they did. It forced us to find Petersburg. We like it here much better.
glad to see you 2 are doing well i am so jealous i cant wait till i finish my boat and do some nice cruising it will be a new adventure thank you so much
How exciting! Such a beautiful area, I'd be staying the winter too. I'm looking forward to your video and blog work. It's not to far from where I'm at now, it's tempting to check out ~ thank you so much for posting this video, I always look forward to your next one! Have fun up there and stay warm! Bob ~ USSV Hanu
Hello, I enjoy watching your videos, and they're of course very interesting anywhere you happen to be hanging out. It's always nice to hear from you, so be sure to post often, and be careful out there!.. ~Carol in Nashville, TN USA
Hey guys, glad you are holed up for the winter. Hope you have plenty of coal for the heating.Looking forward to the Hawaii - Alaska video's, you do produce some wonderful footage.
We have been asked that a few times now so we are putting together a FAQ for the web site. To answer you directly, you can see the insulation on our web site on The Boat page and in photos on Laura's Ports of Call/The Boatyard photo album. For heat, we have two 5000 BTU heaters, one AC electric for in port and one Origo alcohol heater for use when unplugged or at anchor or as a supplement to the electric heat when the temp drops below about 20 degrees f.
I can't wait to see more videos! I just subscribed to your channel! I'm 24 years old and love to see how other people travel the world. I just spent a year in Korea and will be spending 15 months in the Azores islands next. Not sure where I'll go after that, but I'm always inspired by others like you both!
Well kids, it would seem that you are now in a safe harbor and getting ready for a long, wet winter. You must be excited about getting to know some more new friends and learning about the lifestyle in Petersberg. Hows the cat adapting? I am looking forward to seeing more of your spring time travels. My Dad passed away in late June but loved seeing your videos. His vision was pretty bad but he loved just listening to your vivid descriptions.
Love your videos....keep them coming! Will you talk about the insulation in LeaLea or lack of and how it allows you to stay comfortable during the winter months in Alaska? What type of heat source do you have? Thanks...stay safe!
And that does not include metered elctricity, a $105 per month live-aboard fee and coin operated showers at $1.50 for 6 minutes. San Francisco, believe it or not, was far less expensive for far better amenities.
I had a look at google maps. Sitka is a bigger town, more things to do i think. But Petersburg is much more sheltered for your sailboat. And if winter takes a long time this year, you are able to take an airplane from the nearby airfield. Or don't they fly regularly in winter time?
noylddot Petersburg is a wonderful community and there is plenty to do. We are surrounded with opportunity to hike, hunt, fish and socialize. Never a dull moment.
14.75.. from 6 .. that's a scary number % up.. what reasons for such a drastic hike might there be .. in the winter.. in Sitka.. Alaska .. this 2012 year; hard to wrap my mind around a thing like it.. even comparing to average Port of Seatle fares .. new horizons sounds better in Petersburg
Glad you are enjoying life. Thanks for subscribing.

We have never considered otherwise. It won't be our first cold winter aboard. We spent the winter of 2008 in Friday Harbor, WA.
Yea!! Glad you made it safe. Cheers
We have a full length set of Sunbrella awnings that we will be putting up to keep the rain out.

I'm totally excited about the Hawaii to Alaska series. Where to after Alaska?
Glad to see you back but, I have a question: Winter in Alaska? ah......BBRRRRR!! Better get some muck-lucks! All the best. Have fun!!!
We are looking for new bumper music for the Cruising in Alaska series.
After Alaska we will be taking Lealea back to Port Townsend, WA for a much needed refit. After that....too far ahead to say.

The Hawaii themed music going to continue while in Alaska? Going to get COLD!!
Whoa, civilization! Cool. Going to let the beard grow in, Chuck?
I think it's a little backwards. Most people go South during winter, haha.
You guys are Great! Look forward to other videos.
