Every one of these Fab shows I see, I say the same thing to Hagerty: Please start doing hour long shows! Tom does SUCH an amazing job on these. Tom, how about coming North into Canada and doing a series in Vancouver/Edmonton? I have heard there is a huge barn find cars in Victoria on Vancouver Island too. You and your Hagerty crew would LOVE laid back Victoria.
We try and keep this show focused on the dusty, neglected, forgotten, unrestored cars. If we stopped to look at every shiny car we found we'd never get anything else done! :)
Another nice video, thanks for taking us along for the ride. Although it is not my favorite ,that mid to late '70's Chevelle/Malibu w/T-Tops caught my eye. I'm also seeing a trend here in that some of the folks are starting to guage their time versus how much they/we have left, and are coming to terms with the inevitable decision to part with their lifetime collection. Still ,theres nothing like going "Scrounging " for cars to keep one youthfull . One of my latest regrets was not following up on a '66 Tri-Power Pontiac GP.
Hey Tom, while you were looking at the yellow beetle convertible you totally ignored the dusty Maserati 425 parked next to it. These Biturbos are becoming rare and those in good condition, without rust, original interior and good mechanicals are definitely worth saving! I know they had a bad reputation but I've owned several fuel-injection variants of the Biturbo including the later 24-valve models not sold in the USA (much more reliable than earlier carb versions) and they never failed to put a smile on my face. Great sound, great interior, Porsche-baiting performance back in the day. Definitely future classics, don't ignore them next time!
I absolutely LOVE what you are Driving ! I'm 70 now, but I've ALWAYS wanted a 1934 Ford Wagon Woodie, since I was a kid! It would probably be cost prohibitive nowadays. But thanks for such a great and detailed extravaganza! You do it right !!!!
3:18 "Harry's a unique guy" ... could he be talking about Harry Sinden? Wow what an eclectic collection. You know its good when the cars you pass could have a whole video on them alone. Great vid!!!
When I was 18 I ordered a new 1975 Camaro setup the way I wanted but at the Chevy/Buick dealership they had a Bricklin sitting out front. The story behind it was the dealer paid a huge premium for it thinking it would increase floor traffic for the dealership. A lot of people liked the looks of it but it never sold. One of the salesmen told me the performance was not too great. I do remember the windshield was supposed to be easy to kick out if you had a rollover. The car was still there when the dealership went under in the recession in 1983. I still have a picture of me taking possession of my new '75 Camaro and you can see the green Bricklin in the background.
Yep, I remember the Bricklin there was a few driving around back in the day... I was pretty surprised when I spotted a yellow Bricklin in my neighbors driveway on the corner... It used to run and drive because I'd see it moved or missing, then it would be back. It was there for at least twenty years and it still may be there, but I haven't looked for it in a while.
Take a Bricklin over a DeLorean any day, Bricklin has a fiberglass body with a steel perimeter frame and a 351 Windsor where as the Delorean has a stainless steel body on a fiberglass frame with a pathetic V6.
I agree with you on the performance side but back in the day what I really wanted besides a Corvette was a DeTomaso Pantera. The local Lincoln Mercury dealer sold them and they looked great and sounded great and unlike the Bricklin it used the ZF transaxle if liked shifting and back then all real sports cars had manual transmissions. Sadly insurance for an eighteen year old for that would have been about 2 grand a year compared to the $170.00 a year I was paying for the Camaro I spec'd out with 350, 4 speed, posi traction and handling package.
The DeLorean didn't just have a pathetic V6, it was a minuscule one too! It was a 174 cubic inch Renault engine. Probably making 100 hp at the wheels (or less).
Can't stop watching these videos, The content is great and it's delivered brilliantly. Great tunes played at the correct times. Just came across Barn Finds as I've been away for a few years in 1 of the Queens many HMP hotels. Being a petrol head sure has took me to some strange places. So I've got a lot of catching up to do. Rock on
The only problem with that '56 Gasser is that it's a Garbage Motors produced chevy....they're junk....now if it was a Ford or Plymouth or Mercury, that'd be different....and aside from the obvious figment and gap issues, that Bricklin is badass as it came with the most tunable small block ever built, the Ford 351 Cleveland....
My best friend had a 60's VW camper van. It had a pop top, original hammocks and a tent that attached to the side door. I miss riding with him in that van. At a top speed of about 45mph
Dream job 53 bug with sun roof wow My dad had a 59 convertible when I was a little kid When I was 19 in 1975-76 I found a 55 Chevy 2-door hardtop in a garage for 250 dollars I also had a 65 Impala SS as my first car in 72-73 Great video Thank you
We never thought about the collision factor. All the safety hullabaloo is so 80 ish.. Plus, you are fairly tall. Love VW’s. Nothing like a map. Gives you the big picture and intelligent choices.
Back in the day, these VW vans, the '61 Econolines, the Dodge A100 and the Thames vans were all like this, hanging out in front of everything. We used to call it "first one to the accident.".
Tom!!!!! I nearly jumped out of my seat when you said you prefer to use the Atlas or maps!!! It's so so much more fun to use these things as opposed to the semi/sort of/ not always reliable gps. I love my road atlas!! So Glad to see you appreciate them to!!! Hey Tom...have a great day man.
Aw man.."to be continued" just as they crack the lock on that trailer? I feel like I'm 12 again and the Dukes just ended with the General Lee in mid-flight!!!
22 minutes not enough we need more and next episode asap truly amazing what some people have in there sheds and workshops I am so jealous all I have is an old falcon and a Daihatsu sirion
Where i'm from in Europe, you could pick up E30 M3's for 10-15k in the late 90's, early 2000's. It was that period where it's just an old M3, not considered a classic yet. Basically where E36 M3's are now, I don't see them becoming as popular tho, i'm not too fond of the E36.
Anders Kristensen the e36 M3 is the least "M3" of all M3's, in the sense that it's the only one which did not see extensive exterior modifications like flared fenders and all the good stuff the e30 and the others after ir got. It's a great car, but it's overshadowed by the mythic e30 and also mythic e46, which is regarded by some as the best one ever made. It'll probably stay as the least valuable M3, which means it's probably the best one to buy if you're just looking for a fun car without getting into the whole "collectible" thing.
Tom...when I was in the 82nd Airborne Division (3rd Platoon, C-Co., 2nd/508th), we didn't have all the newfangled GPS crap...We used a map and a compass to determine where we were at. Like real men.......who got lost a lot.
When he opened the door it was like the movie with Nicholas Cage "National Treasure". You were anxiously waiting to see the treasure as the sulfur was burning down the trough, and when the light exposed the find. WOW!. A convertible Beetle. Probably pristine under the dust. I want to hit the Lottery so I can just go car hunting!LOL.
I have several cars I no longer need and hate to see them waste away from not being driven and setting in the barn, 1979 Peugeot 504 automatic diesel with a/c sunroof and also a 1974 VW 412 automatic 4door and a/c. not sure if your into foreign autos but here you go.. word of mouth. P.S. Love your shows
I have a Bricklin. It has an acrylic body. Just buff it and it looks like new. If you flip the car ( you can't), open the rear hatch and exit the car. All parts are available.
If you want to see a lot of VW s drive all over Arkansas and you will see tons of them A few years back I went to Daisy Arkansas and just while driving around that area I saw lots of them. At one house there had to have been around 30 in one yard. When I got back to my Father in laws house I told him what I had seen. He told me that there were places all over the state like that. I don’t know if you have ever driven around Arkansas but I think you would get a lot of great finds.
He still has not shown any vehicles that I owned when I was young. I am 82 now. I had 48 Ford club coup, 40 Ford with 49 cad. engine with a Lincoln transmission, Frazer, 37 Ford coupe, 47 Plymouth 4 door, 50 Ford, 51 Ford Victoria hardtop is the first year they came out. Cheapest gas I ever bought was 17 cents gal. in L.A. Ca. I have bought some old cars for $50 bucks to 350.00. Those were good years in the 50s, just loved my life and will always remember the 50s.
Back in the early 60s my brother in law and I rode to the beaches of Long Island in a Karman Ghia and Beetle with surfboards on the top. I was 12-15 yrs old.
That “Thing” looks like a fun car to run around in. I wonder if it’s still available. It’s a car that deserves to be restored and it’s history retained for future generations. I’m from Mass. and would be a consciencous if it!
My first car was a 1957 VW Beetle very similar to the one in the video, I was 16yrs old and didn't have a drivers license and used to drive it to my girlfreinds as she lived a long way from home, it struggle to get up some of the steep roads but had a great heater, which some of the cars I had after that didn't have. It was the only VW I have ever owned. My parents didn't know I had it until the registration papers came in the mail.......as a result I was told to sell it, would be good to have it now if I did I fit a LS1 in it to get up those steep roads.
Not sure why I think that Nomad Wagon looks so cool but I do ,also really surprised I haven't seen more of those at the drag strip ? That one appears to be in great shape .
Cool VW edition ! thanks for sharing ...I drive a VW featured in episode 9 ...rusty but I made it trusty lol ! I also have a dune buggy ( Meyers manx ) and 65 sedan ...and have owned numerous vdubs over the years !
So, you drive a Woody, still use an atlas, and geek over practically every car you see. You are cooler than the Roadkill guys. This is my new favorite web show. Btw, your camera guy and editor do an excellent job.
My uncle always had Kombi work vans in about 1971 my cousin and I were in the back playing around and as my Uncle took off from the lights I fell out the back hatch above the engine and it closed behind me, it took half a kilometre before they stopped, luckily the car driver behind was paying attention.
I love Bricklins. Drove one at a dealership I worked at in the 70s and it woulda been my forever car if I had the money back then. Tell the guy with the 30 mile car, I'll pay him what he bought it for gladly.
I've seen two vw buses catch on fire on the road, and I've seen one whip around a corner downtown at high speed and flip over twice. The person in the van walked away from it. Thought they were shooting movie at first, but this was no movie.
Robert Drake - I'm old enough to where if you were poor living in the late 60s you could get a VW for almost free. Everyone I knew that had one started it on fire. The engines leaked like colanders.....ah the good old days.....
Sorry Tom, that VW Transporter is pre 1967. In '67, VW equipped the bugs and the buses with reversing (back-up) lamps as it was mandated by the Feds for all models sold in the U.S. The bus shown had none and no holes above the taillight.
Another great video of some real classics. That Bricklin looks like a Delorian with the engine in the front, Could you shed some light on that? Looking forward to the next episode.
damn right I almost started crying when i saw that car ... I yelled MY BABY and then noticed the T-tops and was like ummm wait they had those with T-tops where do i sign up ?
We have the correct 1200cc engine with the correct 28pict carb for that 53 Beetle. Were out in the SF Bay Area of California if you ever make it out here =) Awesome episode!!!!!!
My white Bric is VIN #533 1974 - 360 AMC (Chrysler)Motor - 76K miles I have owned it for almost 20 years here in Arizona where the designer - Herb Grass lived and Malcolm himself lived in Scottsdale. Show it at various car shows here in the valley. Gets a lot of attention and stories told to me of the past. After a hard decision, putting mine up for sale as my way of life is changing & wanting to pass it on to someone who can enjoy it & take care of it.
That is correct - AMC 360 V8. Not being super car smart, I only said that as many have mentioned "Chrysler" to me in passing and probably did not have that knowledge. (Nor did I) Thanks for that.
We just sold one of those 85 bi-turbo maserattis - Definitely a better car than a VW bug - My problem was finding original parts - Even when I could find parts the Prices were Assinine.
There is a old yellow bricklin in town. I know of a huge Packard stash close. Everything from a chain driven Cadillac truck. To a new Z06 Corvette. J Leno bought a car from him.
You are a little mixed up about the Bricklins. Decent ones are going for 2.5 to 3 times their purchase price and are increasing in popularity. The one you looked at was a little abused. They are the only gull wing door car that the windows roll all the way down. If rolled over you can get out of the window or the hatch depending on how the car lands. If you have a Delorean the rear window is sealed and the side windows are too small to crawl out of. They have aluminum side crash beams in the doors and a bird cage type passenger compartment with huge energy absorbing bumpers. They are a pleasure to drive, have a killer muscle car sound, with a turning circle better than a Volkswagen, they have factory A/C, and turn more heads than any other car. Take one for a drive and it is like a moving car show. It can't get any better than that! Try one out.
I live down the road from Randy. He does great work, so imagine my surprise when I see him on an old episode of my favorite show!
Fight Milk
WAS it a BIG SURPRISE or a MAJOR LET DOWN ?
@@davidson2004fatboy You'll have to be more specific. I thought you were talking about your life.
@@BlindBadger212 I WAS and STILL AM a FANTASTIC SURPRISE to ALL👍 ! WTF WERE YOU 😮 ? I MEAN BESIDES a FUCKING JACKASS

Finally a new episode! First place had some cool cars - E30 M3. 914, some MB - would be cool to see more of European classics ;)

That 53 Beetle is my dream car I'd be blessed to have one.
That's the nicest E Type I've ever seen

The cold chills I got when the door was slowly opening lol
That tease though.
Great show, I wish they were weekly!
I love that amc spirit in the beginning.
One of my must have, a bit tricky when you live in Sweden.
sturgis87 i had a friend that put a 327 4spd in it. It was a runner, they were lite.
Back in the day, these VW vans, the '61 Econolines, the Dodge A100 and the Thames vans were all like this, hanging out in front of everything. We used to call it "first one to the accident.".
I had a 77 Malibu Classic 2 door with a 250 straight six . Almost no options. Probably the best "real car" that I've ever owned.

Low mileage 50's Corvette or Gullwing Mercedes. My guess from the glimpse.
PGTMR2 something very rare for it to be in the next episode. Doubt it's a Mercedes the car looks to have an egg crate style grill.
A one off egg crate style grill gull wing Mercedes? ;D I didn't look too hard at it. Paint did look like a silver or gray, dusty of course
I'm pretty sure that's a gray cover........
It's a Pantera.
I have a vacation house a mile from there! Who knew he had so much stuff. On golden pond was filmed in this beautful little town.
I have that VW. I'm fixing her up in my shed. Good to see they are still appreciated.
22 minutes not enough we need more and next episode asap truly amazing what some people have in there sheds and workshops I am so jealous all I have is an old falcon and a Daihatsu sirion
I always look forward to BFH, great show and great job Tom.
Smiled as soon as you took the map out it brings back a lot of memories
Oh my that E30 M3 is stunning
Easily the most valuable car there imo.
I thought I was rh only one who spotted it lol yesssss e30heads lol
they over looked that! stunning classic! will be worth 500k before long.
Tom...when I was in the 82nd Airborne Division (3rd Platoon, C-Co., 2nd/508th), we didn't have all the newfangled GPS crap...We used a map and a compass to determine where we were at.

Why so bitter pal?
I got your 82nd right here. Dont be so nasty pops!
In other words who cares about your experience especially when you are negative like you are
You sound kind of jealous to me actually

That Roadster is beautiful. 💕 last registered in 1976. I was born that year!
"Not a burden in terms of maintenance..."
Contrast to the Maserati Biturbo to the left of the Super Beetle LOL
I started my love affair with VW's with a 1975 type 2 transporter that I bought for $400 in 1996. Someday I'll find another one. Love the show!
Love this show. Thanks Tom and Hagerty. Looks like you walked right by a cool Porsche to show us the 53.
I have a Bricklin. It has an acrylic body. Just buff it and it looks like new. If you flip the car ( you can't), open the rear hatch and exit the car. All parts are available.

Good job Tom.!! I like very much yours videos.
There are so many cars like this hiding around New England--I may start doing some barn hunting of my own!
Rusted heaps. Good luck.
The ones sitting outside, yes--but there are plenty of well-preserved ones in barns begging to be found
Back in the early 60s my brother in law and I rode to the beaches of Long Island in a Karman Ghia and Beetle with surfboards on the top. I was 12-15 yrs old.
That is a 74 thing, air scoops on the sides. Only made 73 and 74. 73’s had no scoops. Great show as always.
Enjoyed the rat saying hi from the rear grill of the RV at 21:51
THAT NOMAD!!! Right up my alley.
That “Thing” looks like a fun car to run around in. I wonder if it’s still available. It’s a car that deserves to be restored and it’s history retained for future generations. I’m from Mass. and would be a consciencous if it!

love this show, no badge loyalty crap just love for cars.
Cool VW edition ! thanks for sharing ...I drive a VW featured in episode 9 ...rusty but I made it trusty lol ! I also have a dune buggy ( Meyers manx ) and 65 sedan ...and have owned numerous vdubs over the years !
i love old cars
I grew up around old VWs a few buses an a few Bugs in my family and I love em, unfortunately I never got one myself watching the prices sky rocket..
So, you drive a Woody, still use an atlas, and geek over practically every car you see. You are cooler than the Roadkill guys. This is my new favorite web show. Btw, your camera guy and editor do an excellent job.

That green bus would look badass with a set of EMPI BRM wheels!
I'm glad this was a longer episode, I love old air cooler vws. keep making these 20+ min episode would be awesome
I love Bricklins. Drove one at a dealership I worked at in the 70s and it woulda been my forever car if I had the money back then. Tell the guy with the 30 mile car, I'll pay him what he bought it for gladly.

VW Semaphores: We called them Mox Nix (Macht nicht) sticks in 62 when I was stationed in Germany!
Hagerty, tell Barn finder to come to the UK and look in our barn !
11:26 Darn, I was looking forward to see the red EuroVan behind the red and white bus.
Thanks, Tom! I love the Barn Find Hunter series!
Looks to be a nice BMW E30 M3 next to the E-type Jag . Fast becoming a very expensive and desirable classic car :)
this is an outstanding show,..tom and crew your efforts are 1st class

Robert Drake - I'm old enough to where if you were poor living in the late 60s you could get a VW for almost free. Everyone I knew that had one started it on fire. The engines leaked like colanders.....ah the good old days.....
Interesting choices of cars to looks at . . . .completely ignoring the E30 M3 and Maserati BiTurbo 425!
Jorge Orwell he also ignored the 914 and the porsche transaxle. What a shame
An old BiTurbo 😂😂 I can understand them ignoring that, but the E30 M3 and 914!? Cmon man!!
when i saw the maserati i was like....." wait....go back dummie".....
He is a yank, what do you expect?
Thanks Tom! An episode for me! Love all the VW's!!!
cheers from Germany and thank you !
Sorry Tom, that VW Transporter is pre 1967. In '67, VW equipped the bugs and the buses with reversing (back-up) lamps as it was mandated by the Feds for all models sold in the U.S. The bus shown had none and no holes above the taillight.
Heck, now I want to visit these places!
My first car was the 1953 Bug I just paid $75 for mine---the starter didn't work but it wasn't hard to push to start!
Thats true! There was a subaru dealer in cherryhill N.J. and they had atrack behind the dealership! For 2 bucks u could drive one around the track!
The numbers for the Volkswagen Thing, are under the back seat or on the top of the hump in the middle (also in the back).
finally a volkwagen thing the perfect off road beach car that makes people happy
Another great video of some real classics. That Bricklin looks like a Delorian with the engine in the front, Could you shed some light on that?
Looking forward to the next episode.
TWO Bricklins! Wow!
Love this I will have to send a picture of the 1929 ford pickup I am restoring factory
Good ole Bic lighter in the back of the Combi , an absolute must for lighting the um incense.
Believe it or not that Laguna or Malibu with T Tops enticed me
damn right I almost started crying when i saw that car ... I yelled MY BABY and then noticed the T-tops and was like ummm wait they had those with T-tops where do i sign up ?
John Oliveri, I bought that car! It's sitting in my garage now.
Good for you, if u c the picture to the left I have a 73 Grand Prix, sunroof 455 SJ fully loaded , love of my life as far as cars go
We have the correct 1200cc engine with the correct 28pict carb for that 53 Beetle.
(Nor did I) Thanks for that.
show the next episode fast, thanks.
"Hey! Here's a Beetle!" - spoken while literally rubbing your a** on a Maserati! :oD
We just sold one of those 85 bi-turbo maserattis - Definitely a better car than a VW bug - My problem was finding original parts - Even when I could find parts the Prices were Assinine.
67 E-Type Jag. Sharp looking motor! iconic british design.
What a barn find !
Love the VW bus finds.
Left us hangin!!!😲👀
How can you do this to us! How can you just leave us on such a cliff hanger!!?? LOL
Mustie1 would love this.
