I really enjoyed this. It was delightful. Thank you for making it. It reminds me of the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. When I was a kid, my parents would take me there, and in the basement of the museum, there was an old-timey turn of the century re-creation of a soda fountain shop next to a re-creation of a silent movie house. So you could buy a sundae or a phosphate and go watch silent movies on a loop while a real person actually played an upright player piano to the movie at the front of the theatre. I suppose it is no surprise that I watch everything with subtitles turned on if the option exists in that medium.
It's an interesting experiment, however the strength in silent film is in pure visual and music; adding the subtitle cards takes away from that and makes it seem dated. I understand that the whole "I am your father" aspect would be absent without actual dialogue, but those little dialogue cards just look too much like part of a period piece. Also, I think adjusting the actual footage would push it further; I always think of the frigid blues and sharp laser reds when I think of Empire. Increase the saturation of the blues and reds, and desaturate everything else. I think this look would greatly increase the visual impact of a silent Empire.
This was really interesting to watch, and I think a very cool idea, but this might admittedly only be as entertaining as it is to me because I've seen the original movie.

It could work well as a silent movie if there were less dialogue screens. Have them written in a way that wouldn't slow the pace of the action.

That John Williams score gets me every time.
Wouldn't work as well with the obligatory ragtime piano score though.

James Earl Jones needs to be speaking for the words to come off the page correctly. theres a reason why we dont do silent films anymore.
+Nicolas Tyler Doyle Yeah well, that's like, your own opinion man.
1001johny is it ?
+Nicolas Tyler Doyle Yes that's the definition of an opinion.
This is really cool lol.
Definitely not as exciting without sound and dialogue. It just shows that the Star Wars trilogy wasn't made to be silent. Great experiment, though.
It could work...
And people lost their shit
