The best tutorial video on basic recording techniques with an audio interface and GarageBand I have ever seen. You just saved me hours of browsing and helped me avoid a rage episode :)
This is the most comprehensive set of instructions I have ever watched. Now, I am going to purchase Focusrite because I was able to find what I truly need to understand. Thanks, man.
What they don’t tell you is that if you are using an iPad and GarageBand the headphone socket won’t work immediately out the box if you are using headphones at the front, so the trick is to hold down the 48v button for five seconds, pull the power cable out, put the power cable back in so there is power, and once again pull the power out. This should enable the iPad and GarageBand to use the monitor function so you can use the headphone jack properly.
That's right. Scarlett is primarily designed for macOS and Windows PC and will initially be detected as a Mass Storage Device as it ships in 'Easy Start Mode' to make the process of creating an account and accessing the bundled content, as quick and easy as possible. Those who do not want to connect Scarlett to a computer first can manually remove the device from 'Easy Start Mode' using the phantom power button as described. This is covered in the User Guide, apologies if you had not been aware of this. John // Focusrite UK 🇬🇧
Thank you so much. I couldn’t get my 3rd gen working with GarageBand at all without this comment. Focusrite should do a much better job explaining this.
@@ronabrums1506 I used the onboarding that was available out of the box, using the site that you use to download focusrite control, after you register what product you have it takes you through the steps. I was intending to use iPad pro from the start, and when I got to that stage the onboarding told me I either had to connect it to a PC first, or use the manual activation. So I don't know where you are getting your product support from. This was about 3 months ago btw, 3rd gen.
I plugged my headphone into the Scarlett solo gen 3 and hear myself through the headphones just fine, but I can't hear the beat or any sound from my iPad (I connected it with a USB c cable from the iPad charger). The problem is I can't turn on the monitor in Garageband, why??? I'm very new about recording things, pls help.
When I do this the volume buttons on my 10th gen iPad don’t work anymore. I want to use this to play along with backing tracks on my iPad. How can I get the iPad volume buttons to work?
Scarlett when connected will become the main audio device for your iPad. If you want to control volume, you will need to use the volume controls on the Scarlett.
Hi. I can’t seem to record on iPad USB-C using the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 4th generation using the direct connection (USB-C cable to USB-C cable) method. In the Garage Band app, I am unable to switch to Monitor mode as the iPad did not seem to detect any external audio device. May I know how to solve it? Thanks.
Apologies for the delayed reply. Are you still having problems? Have you connected your Scarlett to a Mac or Windows PC running Focusrite Control 2 first and ensured the firmware is up to date?
This was an absolutely fantastic tutorial that I discovered when looking for something else. Would you by any chance know how I would set everything up as is in this video but for it to be used for a Facebook livestream please? I have GarageBand and also Logic Pro for iPad. Do I need extra hardware or software for this?
Thank you for your kind words, we're happy to hear this video helped you. Facebook Live for iOS likely can transmit audio captured from Scarlett, but you will need to check with the developer to see if it can transmit audio from Garageband to the stream via iOS. Please let us know if this helps or if we can answer additional questions.
Ok so to be clear, I cannot use my 1st gen Scarlett 2i2 with my gen 4 ipad? It doesn’t work so I’m guessing I need to upgrade to a 3rd gen Scarlett? I just wanted to trouble shoot everything before I run out and buy another interface…
That's correct, 1st Gens are not tested or supported on iPad. Scarlett Solo 3rd Gen and Scarlett 2i2 3rd Gen are tested and supported with any iPad Pro with USB-C port. Here's more info: bit.ly/3yHVSuo Bri // Focusrite US 🇺🇸
Hiya. Hoping you can help, as Thomann can't give me a definitive answer. I would like to get the Focusrite Scarlett Solo 3rd Gen for my husband. He has an iPad 9th Gen [OS 17.7]. Are they compatible, please? I've no idea what I'm doing, but your video suggests to me that it may be possible.
Scarlett 3rd Gen isn't specifically designed for use with iPad but in theory, it can pass audio successfully and work well if connected using a powered USB hub, as shown here. Generally speaking, the iPad won't be able to provide sufficient power for Scarlett to function but a hub, like the Anker product shown here should work well.
I attached the i8i8 to my iPad Pro. When using garage band, I can't hear any input or playback. I enabled the monitoring function. Any help is appreciated.

At this time it does not seem possible for internal audio to be shared over Zoom via the iOS app. Using Zoom on a Mac or Windows computer however allows you to share microphone audio from your interface, as well as high-quality, stereo computer audio. Please let us know if this helps or if we can answer additional questions.
@@FocusriteHelp thank you for your response - we are not trying to 'share iPad sound' we have the music connected via bluetooth to the Scarlet itself and can hear the music in the headphones wired into the Scarlet however the people on the zoom call cannot hear the music. Original sound is enabled in zoom. The microphone connected to the Scarlet works great and can heard by the people in zoom.
Are you sharing the music from a separate device from your iPad? Scarlett's do not have Bluetooth connectivity, only our Vocasters do. If you are sharing from a separate device, it may be best to connect that to your Scarlett with a cable that can connect to the TRS inputs on Scarlett. I'm not sure I fully understand your setup however, it may be best to reach out to our support team to discuss this further. You can reach them via email, chat, or phone at the link below: bit.ly/FocusriteSupport
@@FocusriteHelp I appreciate your response. We are directly connecting a bluetooth receiver into the instrument input on the Scarlet through a wired connection...
In that case, this setup should work. You may need to check Zoom iOS audio interface compatibility, but no loopback is required if you are sending audio via a receiver into one of the inputs. You also may need to see if iOS zoom can accept two inputs from an interface, if you are using a 4th gen Scarlett you can combine the two inputs digitally. Please let us know if this makes sense or if we can answer additional questions.
Hello Question! I just purchased a new 3rd Gen Scarlett 2i2, and I’ll mainly be using it along with a Rode NT1 microphone to record voice over audio to edit on my MacBook. Separately though, I’m going to be using my iPhone to film some videos for TH-cam, and I want to use the audio from my fancy mic and Scarlett 2i2 instead of the iPhone’s audio. Would I basically follow this same process? Thanks for the video!
Hi, ive got an older ipad so try to connect my solo to the ipad. I bought an interface - lightning to ipad with a usb connector for the solo and an additional port for power. I have power to the ipad and the air and inst are alight but i cant get the ipad to pick up the input from the solo. Im not getting halos when i plug in? Help please. Thanks
It is possible that the adapter you are using is not fully compatible with Scarlett, as Lightning iPads are not officially tested or supported for use with Scarlett. To try and find a solution, we recommend you reach out to our support team at the link below. There one of our experts can hopefully find a solution. bit.ly/FocusriteSupport
The only way this would be possible would be to connect the iPad audio output to the Scarlett via a 3.5mm to TRS adapter such as the one linked below: www.amazon.com/Hosa-HMP-006Y-3-5mm-Stereo-Breakout/dp/B0084O7FPM/ref=asc_df_B0084O7FPM/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=692875362841&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=16507404823270687225&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9003488&hvtargid=pla-2281435181738&psc=1&mcid=235736ecf9213e91ad2f7a4cca9db921&hvocijid=16507404823270687225-B0084O7FPM-&hvexpln=73 However, if there is a way to export these sounds from your iPad as audio files, and import them to your GarageBand session, this would offer higher audio quality. Please let us know if this makes sense or if we can answer additional questions.
Couple Questions: 1. Which Anker adapter did you use for this? 2. Do I absolutely need garage band? I was planning on recording myself playing piano with the regular camera, I've seen people do this with the older ipad models but I'm not sure if it'd work with USBC models.
Here we used an 'Anker PowerExpander+ 7-in-1 USB-C PD Ethernet Hub' but any good-quality, powered USB hub should work well. No. When connected successfully, Scarlett will be able to pass audio into any compatible audio app. You can certainly record audio straight into the camera app. If you're using a USB-C iPad, you may find that you can simply connect directly using that connection. Generally speaking, USB-C iPads are able to provide sufficient power for Scarlett to function.
Please help! Will this whole setup work with an IPad Pro 12.9inch 3rd Generation 2018? what USB-C HUB do you recommend for my Ipad Version? Thank you so much!🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Hello, I am connecting my Scarlett to my iPad using an Apple CCK3 USB Adapter, which I am connecting to the iPad Lighting Charger. Whenever I try to turn the Phantom Power on, the lights on the Scarlett keep flashing and the iPad will stop recognising the interface. It seems as if it is not getting enough power. Hello how can I download drivers from internet? I can’t see drivers on your site, do I need them on iPad? Why there are drivers for MacBook but not for iPad?
Scarlett are USB Class Compliant devices, meaning they're plug-and-play on macOS and iOS as they use Apple Core Audio. As a result, no Mac drivers exist as they aren't required. For use with Windows, you just need to install the Focusrite ASIO driver for your device that's available from the 'Downloads' section of our website.
Nice tutorial! However i did all the steps you did to set up my scarlet solo connected to my iPhone but I can’t turn on the 48v. It automatically switch off after a second I turned on. Do you know how can I fix this issue? Also can I use all this set up to record a normal video and not only a garage band track?

This video explains how to use Scarlett Solo 3rd Gen and Scarlett 2i2 3rd Gen with the USB-C iPad Pro. Afraid no other iOS devices or Scarlett audio interfaces are supported. John // Focusrite UK 🇬🇧
Hey, I know its been almost a year, but hopefully you see this! Did you ever find out if it is possible to used the set up directly to record videos with audio using the camera app, or do you need to use garageband/some other DAW? (Assuming all the hardware and device is correct)

Thank you for this video. I recently got the donner interface and I’ve noticed some annoying latency when recording electric guitar in GarageBand. I’m using the m1 iPad Pro so it shouldn’t give this latency. Any suggestions on how to correct this? Thank you so much.
Focusrite interfaces are tested and proven to provide high-quality recordings on Windows, Mac, and iOS devices. This setup should absolutely work, please let us know if we can answer any additional questions.
There isn't actually any Focusrite software for iPad but that shouldn't be needed as Scarlett doesn't require any software to pass audio to and from iPad or Mac successfully. Scarlett isn't specifically designed for use with iPad, but as it's a USB Class Compliant device, it can access Core Audio, as it can when used with macOS.
I have a 18i8 3rd model. When i take it out side to recording live band with my ipad, but it want to connect to computer to use Focusrite control app. This is so stupid. How can i bring all my computer and screen to recording live band? And if i have a computer near me, i don't need control app for anything either.
Why don’t I see the hub plugged in for power ? You show it plugged in but it doesn’t look like any cable is going from the main plug to the hub ? Totally confusing. My iPad Pro battery is getting drained. I use phantom power on my Focusrite for a Rose condenser mix.
Depending on the kind of hub that you are using, you should find that you can connect the iPad charger to the iPad. This will charge the iPad during use. As shown in the video here - th-cam.com/video/Lsb26veUB3E/w-d-xo.html
@@FocusriteHelp If your just recording acoustic guitar using condenser mic which takes 48 volts phantom power you don’t need a powered hub to charge your iPad ,just use Apple adapter ,and plug into the iPad charger , no hub required. The ASSUMPTION that everyone is using multiple midi’s hence needing a several port hub is what is confusing. You don’t need a hub if you have the iPad charger and Apple camera adapter .

@@FocusriteHelp thanks a lot, I love studio monitors for listening (apart from monitoring) but they didn’t work well with my Ifi Zen DAC. Glad you found this interesting, Muki. In theory, a Scarlett 2i2 setup like this one could be a solution for you. None of our current audio interfaces feature a dedicated USB MIDI input, like the one found on iTrack Dock, but If you purchase a USB-C hub with power delivery like the one shown in this video, you may find that your USB MIDI device is able to establish a connection with the iPad if it is also connected to the USB-C hub. Do you have a Scarlett 18i8 3rd Gen? If so, It sounds like it may still be in Easy Start Mode. In Easy Start mode, the interface will function at sample rates up to 48 kHz and the MIDI I/O is disabled. Once Focusrite Control is installed on your computer, you can work at sample rates up to 192 kHz : customer.focusrite.com/en/getstarted/begin/F9 Please be aware, in terms of iOS recording, only Scarlett 2i2 3rd Gen and Scarlett Solo 3rd Gen are supported for use with the USB-C iPad Pro. Good tutorial. Learnt a lot. The only thing that I still wonder is how many track the 4i4 can deliver simultaneously to Garageband. I bought it for two, but need to record a trio. Is that possible?
Hi Audun, yes this is possible but the inputs 3-4 are designed for line-level inputs, so you may need to use a DI box to boost the signal if recording an instrument/mic. A line-level input such as most keys/synths should be fine into 3-4 though.
Yes you can, however, you do need a few adapters. Please refer to this article that explains the full connection process. You will need a USB hub that allows power delivery and a lightning-to-USB adapter. support.focusrite.com/hc/en-gb/articles/115005430409-Can-I-use-my-bus-powered-Scarlett-with-an-iPad-Lightning-port-
I have an iPad Air 4 which has USB C port. I also have Scarlett 2i2 (first generation)...So my questions are 1) Will I be able to connect my 1st gen Scarlett 2i2 to my iPad Air 4? 2) Will I be able to connect midi keyboard as well?
In terms of iOS compatibility, only Scarlett Solo 3rd Gen and Scarlett 2i2 3rd Gen are officially supported, specifically when used with the USB-C iPad Pro. That said, we would expect Scarlett to be able to transmit audio when connected to other models, providing it has adequate power, as Scarlett are USB class compliant devices. Whether or not an additional USB device will be able to draw sufficient power and also establish a connection with your iPad will depend on how you choose to connect and provide power. You may find that a powered hub of some kind works well.
Similarly to the smaller units, Scarlett 4i4 3rd Gen would be expected to be able to pass audio successfully when connected to an iPad but it remains unsupported as it still depends on Focusrite Control for access to features. Focusrite Control can be installed on Mac and Windows PC.

Which Scarlett audio interface do you have? There are dedicated Gain controls located on the hardware. Focusrite Control on Mac and Windows PC will essentially function like a remote control, providing access to hardware features that don't have physical controls. Good morning. I have a problem. When i go live on TIKTOK, my spect say me that listen live only in one channel, right channel...can u help me. I'm losing my mind.
It sounds like the app is expecting to receive a stereo audio signal, rather than the mono signal sent from a microphone. This can have the effect of placing the mono signal onto one side or in one speaker/headphone. Our Support Team can help you find a fix for that - bit.ly/FocusriteSupport

Amazing video! I was just about to buy a new interface for my iPad and decide to see if their was a way to use my Scarlett 2i2 with my iPad!! Happy I found this. I have a couple questions tho, 1. My iPad is a newer model but doesn’t have a usb c charger it’s the original one. I looked it up and found these cheap usb to regular iPad port. Would this still work or is data transferred different? 2. Alternatively my iPhone is usb c so I can always suck it up and do it on their 💁♂️. I’m a professional guitar loop creator and this lets me bring my work in the road, anywhere I go! Very excited if this works it’ll be a total game changer for me! Thank you for showing us how this process works! It’s really amazing how far technology has come and it’s only getting better, their has never been a better time to be a musician! Thank you again for the great video 🤌 - Alex
That may work, in theory, but please be aware, when it comes to iPad compatibility, only the USB-C iPad Pro is supported and this support is limited specifically to Scarlett Solo 3rd Gen and Scarlett 2i2 3rd Gen, connecting as shown in the video. Whilst using other Scarlett audio interfaces with other iOS devices, such as Lightning iPads may be possible in theory, it isn't something that we're officially able to support. Results can vary, especially if using a third-party connection kit. Similarly, afraid none of our current products are designed or supported for use with iPhone.
I have a 5th gen iPad with a lightning cable and, today, I made it work. First, this isn't to disagree with the rep's statement below, and there was some work around, so clearly not a supported feature, yet possible. I got a small lightning to USB and lightning hub, but that wasn't enough power to make the Scarlett functionable. So I got a hub that allowed charging, yet it didn't allow lightning. However, if I combined these ... from iPad to small lightning hub ... with the lightning going to power, and the USB feed out going to main USB in the other USB hub. Then, the Scarlett is connected to a USB port on that second hub which support charging ... and it works and sends signal as desired. Good luck!
In terms of iPad compatibility, only Scarlett 2i2 3rd Gen and Scarlett Solo 3rd Gen are supported for use with the USB-C iPad Pro only - focusrite.com/en/news/focusrite-sound-now-ipad-pro#:~:text=Now%20you%20really%20can%20record,Focusrite%20sound%20wherever%20you%20go.
I use my iPad as my daily driver, no laptop or computer. Recently iOS 15 reset my interface into MSD mode and I have no way of resetting it back. What am I supposed to do now other than buy a new interface?!?!
You can take Scarlett 3rd Gen out of the MSD Mode that it originally ships in by connecting it whilst pressing and holding the 48V button for five seconds. As explained in the User Guide - fael-downloads-prod.focusrite.com/customer/prod/s3fs-public/downloads/Scarlett%202i2%203rd%20Gen%20User%20Guide%20V2.pdf iOS 15 wouldn't have put your Scarlett back into MSD Mode. If you have never connected the Scarlett to a host computer that has Focusrite Control installed, it would have always been in MSD Mode. Changes made by Apple to iOS 15 have resulted in devices that are in MSD Mode not being detected. Scarlett is primarily designed for use with Mac and Windows PC. Scarlett 3rd Gen devices ship in MSD Mode so that users can quickly access our 'Easy Start' tool and begin recording with the bundled content as fast as possible.

Hey Jeri Ann, latency is very subjective based on individual systems and use cases. While we recommend direct connection, we also see excellent latency performance with a variety of hubs.
Hi there, yes there is although you will need the Apple Camera Connection kit. Article here: support.focusrite.com/hc/en-gb/articles/115005430409-Can-I-use-my-bus-powered-Scarlett-with-an-iPad-

Scarlett is only officially supported for use with Windows PC, Mac and USB-C iPad Pro. In theory, you should be able to connect successfully to other iPad models, providing you use an official Apple Camera Connection kit and a powered USB hub, in order to provide power to Scarlett. We've written a Help Centre article that explains how to connect - support.focusrite.com/hc/en-gb/articles/115005430409-Can-I-use-my-bus-powered-Scarlett-with-an-iPad-Lightning-port-

THIS is how a "how to" video should be done. He avoided EVERY bad habit present in just about every video we see.
lol true. fuckin quality video lol.
Clear. Concise. Thank you.
Happy to hear this video was helpful! Please let us know if we can answer additional questions.

What about Bluetooth headphones will they work with out the extra steps?
My headphone jack works when I plugged it in half, but thanks, will try this one too.

Recently purchased Focusrite Scarlett Studio, very helpful video in setting up the audio interface with your IPhone.
This is the best video I have found so far. Thanks so much.
Thanks for watching!

Thanks very much for this video. Straight to the point and very effective.
Can someone confirm if this audio interface works with iPad 6 generation? I appreciate if someone can help me with that.

Hi - what about setting up for a live zoom session? With the scarlet and sharing music to lead a meditation?
You can reach them via email, chat, or phone at the link below:

@@FocusriteHelp I appreciate your response. We are directly connecting a bluetooth receiver into the instrument input on the Scarlet through a wired connection...
In that case, this setup should work. You may need to check Zoom iOS audio interface compatibility, but no loopback is required if you are sending audio via a receiver into one of the inputs. You also may need to see if iOS zoom can accept two inputs from an interface, if you are using a 4th gen Scarlett you can combine the two inputs digitally. Please let us know if this makes sense or if we can answer additional questions.
I bought a lightning to usb-c cable to plug into my iPad it didn’t work do I need drivers?

Would you be able to use a mic connected to a Focusrite in a zoom call on an ipad?
Hello Question! I just purchased a new 3rd Gen Scarlett 2i2, and I’ll mainly be using it along with a Rode NT1 microphone to record voice over audio to edit on my MacBook. Separately though, I’m going to be using my iPhone to film some videos for TH-cam, and I want to use the audio from my fancy mic and Scarlett 2i2 instead of the iPhone’s audio. Would I basically follow this same process? Thanks for the video!

I have power to the ipad and the air and inst are alight but i cant get the ipad to pick up the input from the solo. Im not getting halos when i plug in? Help please. Thanks

Is it possible to connect an iPad to a macbook via the interface? I'd like to record some of my iOS synths into garageband session on my macbook.
The only way this would be possible would be to connect the iPad audio output to the Scarlett via a 3.5mm to TRS adapter such as the one linked below:
www.amazon.com/Hosa-HMP-006Y-3-5mm-Stereo-Breakout/dp/B0084O7FPM/ref=asc_df_B0084O7FPM/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=692875362841&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=16507404823270687225&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9003488&hvtargid=pla-2281435181738&psc=1&mcid=235736ecf9213e91ad2f7a4cca9db921&hvocijid=16507404823270687225-B0084O7FPM-&hvexpln=73
However, if there is a way to export these sounds from your iPad as audio files, and import them to your GarageBand session, this would offer higher audio quality. Please let us know if this makes sense or if we can answer additional questions.

Couple Questions:

There isn't actually any Focusrite software for iPad but that shouldn't be needed as Scarlett doesn't require any software to pass audio to and from iPad or Mac successfully. Yes absolutely. Scarlett's are class-compliant and can be used as the main audio output device for your iOS device.
@@FocusriteHelp thanks a lot, I love studio monitors for listening (apart from monitoring) but they didn’t work well with my Ifi Zen DAC.
I think it was because of analogue control of volume of the line out by the DAC that complicates the path signal.

@@FocusriteHelp thank u I already have the xlr mic and in the focus rite website it shows i can directly connect with USB A to USB C to iPad pro m1 the thing that confused me and was do I need a USB c hub or not but its written hey have tested so it should work directly 👍🏻
Can anyone confirm what USB hub is being used in this video. I can see the brand name Anker but get a lot of results when I Google it. Not very tech savvy so would appreciate any help. Thank you
The example In this video is an ANKER hub, but this setup will work with any USB hub that specifically has "power delivery". Please let us know if this helps or if we can answer additional questions.
I tried to do this with an older ipad with the old small apple cable, and it didn't work. Can you tell me why?
We cannot guarantee that Scarlett devices will work with older iPads, but if you want to connect a lightning cable iPad, you can follow the steps in the article below. Please let us know if this helps or if you have additional questions.

what adapter/hub would be best to use for usb-c ? the apple one or the anker that you use in the video? i know that not all of them are great to use. I wonder if the hub affects recording because I either can't hear my recording at all or only out of one ear.
please help! thank you!!
The only requirement is you need a USB-C hub that also features "Power Delivery" Meaning it can also be connected to power while passing data to and from the iPad and the Scarlett. This help article explains the process in greater detail.

After connecting everything as you showed in the video my iPhone 12 max w/ iOS 15.5 is still saying the 2i2 requires too much power and is not working. How can I fix this?
Afraid iPhone isn't supported. Scarlett Solo and 2i2 3rd Gen are supported for use with the USB-C iPad Pro only.
Great video 🙏 Thank you so much. Is there a way if we can plug a usb midi also, like the way we can use it in old Focusrite iTrack Dock? I was using that and now I can’t because I upgraded my iPad mini to iPad Air which is with type C. Is there any similar product iTrack Dock for iPad Air, through which I can use USB midi, Two mic at least? Or is there any solution if I can use my iTrack Dock with my new iPad? I am unable to find any valuable information.
I should point out that this isn't something we've tested and so isn't officially supported. Also, in terms of current iPad compatibility, only the USB-C iPad Pro is supported for use with Scarlett Solo 3rd Gen and Scarlett 2i2 3rd Gen.

Can I connect the audio interface and the midi keyboard to the Anker hub at the same time? Does Anker hub have enough power for both?
I need answer for this

@@FocusriteHelp I got it running. I hooking it up to a windows computer and even though I didn’t change any setting I save profile then hooked it back to my iPad and it worked. Thanks!
When I record in this manner, I get sound from the mic in channel 1, but nothing from my guitar in channel 2. The lines are showing up, showing it’s picking up sound, but nothing comes out. Help!
I have a question my good sir, can i use a guitar amp connected to scarlet and listen with headphones? I just wanna use all the settings in my amp and play quietly and still record on GarageBand on ipad. Is it possible? Pls help me
Hello, I believe what you are trying to do is possible. First, you should check if your guitar amp has a line-level output, if so you can connect that straight to one of the inputs of your Scarlett and capture that way. Otherwise, you could connect a cable from the headphone port of your amplifier to one of the inputs of your Scarlett, then monitor through the headphone port of the interface. Please let us know if this helps or if you have additional questions
@@FocusriteHelp thank u for responding really appreciate it. My amp has line out outputs. I’ll try it when I receive the scarlet and let u guys know
Do I need a Mac for the Clarett+ 2Pre or can I use it with the IPad only? (with GarageBand)
All Clarett USB and Clarett Devices are confirmed to work with USB-C iPads. You would just need a computer to initially connect the device to Focusrite Control and set the Sample rate of the device. This topic is explained in greater detail in the article below.

Thanks for the video. I'm setting up a project studio around a 2021 iPad Pro (M1) with Garage Band. Can you confirm that the Focusrite 2i2 3rd Gen will allow you to record vocals/guitar live to garage band while also monitoring the output of Garage Band sequencer tracks and/or live instruments WITHOUT having to use Audiobus 3 > AUM? Hello, can i connect scarlett to ipad with only cable (c to c)?
my question is the iPad/Scaret 18i8 doesn't play 192khz audio but works on my MacBook Pro through the Scarlet. 192khz works and plays on the iPad itself and other DACs but not the Scarlet. how do I get 192Khz to play on the scarlet for an iPad
Do you have a Scarlett 18i8 3rd Gen? If so, It sounds like it may still be in Easy Start Mode.
In Easy Start mode, the interface will function at sample rates up to 48 kHz and the MIDI I/O is disabled. Once Focusrite Control is installed on your computer, you can work at sample rates up to 192 kHz :
customer.focusrite.com/en/getstarted/begin/F9
Please be aware, in terms of iOS recording, only Scarlett 2i2 3rd Gen and Scarlett Solo 3rd Gen are supported for use with the USB-C iPad Pro. Scarlett 18i8 has different power requirements and also requires Focusrite Control on Mac or Windows PC, for complete control of the hardware so is not supported for use with iOS devices.
@@FocusriteHelp as far as I’m aware it a gen3 and seems to work fine on the current 12” M1 pro is just the 192khz play back that doesn’t work. Also the control app on the iPad just seems to be a controller for a computer and requires the scarlet to be connected to a computer on the same network as to iPad. I question why the controller can’t work directly with the Scarlet when it’s plugged into the iPad
What is the exact name of the anker powerhub that was used? Or any other useful powerhubs please. I can't tell the differences...
Something like the Anker 555 USB-C Hub should serve you well.
A line-level input such as most keys/synths should be fine into 3-4 though.
can you use the interface with usb c to lighting to record on your iphone?
Yes you can, however, you do need a few adapters. Please refer to this article that explains the full connection process. You will need a USB hub that allows power delivery and a lightning-to-USB adapter.

I have an iPad Air 4 which has USB C port. I also have Scarlett 2i2 (first generation)...So my questions are
1) Will I be able to connect my 1st gen Scarlett 2i2 to my iPad Air 4?
I have an old 2i2 gen 1. Is it posible connect to ipad pro directly with change the cable to type c?
iPad Pros are only supported and officially tested with Scarlett 3rd Gens, so we can't guarantee that this would work.
Can a 4i4 now be connected to an iPad? (give that this video was 3 years ago)??
Similarly to the smaller units, Scarlett 4i4 3rd Gen would be expected to be able to pass audio successfully when connected to an iPad but it remains unsupported as it still depends on Focusrite Control for access to features. Focusrite Control can be installed on Mac and Windows PC.
hello,
I recently bought the Scarlett 4i4 , and wanted to record directly the Video from my Iphone 11 without going through Garage Band and having to Export and put Video and Sound together. I bought too the Iphone USB-C cable + Lightning to ensure it works, sadly not. By the Focusrite Control App, it always said the connection failed or I should update altough it's already done.
Is the 4i4 for iphone suitable ? or do you please have a Solution.
Thank you !

Thank you! I'm glad I got 3rd gen now that I upgraded my ipad. Also, does the app or focusrite device control the gain regardless of music app one connects?
Which Scarlett audio interface do you have? There are dedicated Gain controls located on the hardware. Focusrite Control on Mac and Windows PC will essentially function like a remote control, providing access to hardware features that don't have physical controls. There isn't currently an iOS app that can function this way but Scarlett is able to pass audio to and from apps when successfully connected to iPad as it's a USB class compliant device.
@@FocusriteHelp Thanks so much! I was able to connect to garageband and to SMULE. I'm very happy with the 3rd gen Focusrite and can't believe what I've been missing out on with the old iPad. I am keen to just simplify my process for content I want to post. Thanks for the follow up!
Is there a way to get phantom power with a power bank, like an xfive p1?
I'm not sure this would be necessary, if the device is properly powered then +48v should work fine. We recommend adding a powered USB hub if you are trying to connect with an iPad.
@@FocusriteHelp I have a 5v power bank going into an iPad 9th gen and then plug the Scarlett 2i2 still saying not enough power just a bit befuddled
Question do you have to register and download drivers for it to work on the ipad pro?
No drivers are needed for use with iPad.
@@FocusriteHelp thank you.
Great video!! Thank you.😊
Is it safe to use? i mean, isn't there any possibility of mismatch of voltages when using the phantom 48v? for example, if i want to use the microphone xlr, a line in to a piano and the headphones?
It's certainly safe to use. The Phantom Power supply is only delivered to the XLR portion of the Scarlett input.

I was just about to buy a new interface for my iPad and decide to see if their was a way to use my Scarlett 2i2 with my iPad!! Happy I found this.
I have a couple questions tho,

Good luck!
When you say direct connection with from Scarlett usbc to iPad usbc is that only the pro or will it work on iPad air 4 , thanks

Does the power source need to be a certain wattage? I’ve got a 30W charger and it isn’t working.
One question! Can you download the focusrite plug ins on to the ipad pro?
No
I use my iPad as my daily driver, no laptop or computer.
As explained in the User Guide -
fael-downloads-prod.focusrite.com/customer/prod/s3fs-public/downloads/Scarlett%202i2%203rd%20Gen%20User%20Guide%20V2.pdf
iOS 15 wouldn't have put your Scarlett back into MSD Mode.
Scarlett 3rd Gen devices ship in MSD Mode so that users can quickly access our 'Easy Start' tool and begin recording with the bundled content as fast as possible.

what happens if i don’t connect the usb hub and just connect it directly to the ipad?
If it's a USB-C iPad, it might be able to supply adequate power for Scarlett to function.

Does using the external hub add any latency? Or does using any type of adapter add latency?
Hey Jeri Ann, latency is very subjective based on individual systems and use cases. While we recommend direct connection, we also see excellent latency performance with a variety of hubs.
