It doesn't matter how old she was when she was abused.. A traumatic experience can be remembered years and years down the road... My mom didn't remember that she was molested when she was little until she was in her mid 20s...
These acting teachers taught these children about the affects on child abuse and child neglect before the filming of this movie, these child stars did an awesome job on this movie "Child Of Rage" especially the girl who played "Cat" Beth.
My guess is that they changed the name of Beth’s character to “Catherine” for the movie to protect Beth’s privacy. If you watch the actual interview of Beth Thomas as a child, the information is almost identical to what we see here in this movie. The movie really did a good job of displaying a lot of what really happened in Beth’s childhood and why she was so full of rage from it.

Yes, I agree. I know the lady was ordered under privacy laws not to reveal any info about their past. Not sure if laws about this stuff have now changed. But I personally think that a family should be informed about a child’s past like this if the child could potentially hurt either themselves or other people within the new environment. Which is exactly what we saw happen here of course. When people meet with therapists or psychologists, it’s a known fact that everything will remain confidential unless the person is a threat to themselves or others. I really feel the same measures should have been taken here in this situation. But maybe because they were minors there was further protection over their identities.
I think the little girl playing Kat is an amazing actress. It is not easy for a child that young to be able to portray such adult emotions. Her seduction techniques are very believable. The effects of molestation are terrible.
How could the foster/adoption system not be required to tell adoptive parents what they're getting into, so they know what kind of help the kids need and what problems might arise???
This was a movie based on a little girl named Beth who was terribly abused, so bad that she was never able to emotionally connect with people or learn right from wrong, but she got help and a lot if healing and has learned right from wrong and love and I hope they show that in this movie.
You're absolutely right. That poor girl and the sad events that she had to go through. I'm sure she feels noone knows what she has to go through and alone in this world but God is good and will find a way. I really don't think they should've made a show of this...
everyone who is calling her crazy or a bit h etc, please grow up.i mean, come on,she's like 6 or 7 years old?she got sexually abused and raped when she was only 18 months old.i think this is traumatising&absolutley disgraceful..no child EVER deserves this.
You please grow up. I know several people in my life who were abused either physically, sexually, verbally, and emotionally. But they never did anything like this puta loca did.
The original interview was haunting, this movie is not all that good but conveys the idea. All in all, the lady has turned her life around and is doing some amazing work!
Sad part is that they still do this. In order to make kids more desirable to foster parents, they try to disclose as little information as they're allowed to. I remember when my parents took in foster kids and it took almost a year and a half before they were able to figure out all that had happened from the stories the kids told us and what little they were able to get out of their social worker. Turns out there was a lot they weren't told initially.
I wish they could send this girl back to the 70's and have her be adopted by the Evans family of the show "Good Times". James would straighten her out quickly with his trusty belt.
Beth's father messed her up after her mother passed away now that part is true in the movie but the child actress played Cat who suffered the same pain like Beth did but this is a movie that would air on Lifetime Network Television so they change the names and the story.
It is not the worst, there's children that have experiences like this on top of that get raped and exploded by parents for years, also the poor kids that end up been born "special" I know of one who's family would keep him lock up in chains so on, face rape, get beaten, humiliated up to his 30years when he finally received help, now he has to be under supervision. That I admire that she could get help, and try to recover did she really got through it, I have no idea.

"Catherine" aka Beth Thomas, who this movie is based off of, was abused so much when she was little that she never developed a conscious. So, she never could tell between right and wrong and could hurt people without right and wrong. So she as a reason why she acted the way she did when she was a little girl.
She was sexually abused by her biological father, and is traumatized from events that's happened to her. And it's happened to her from when she was 1-3 I believe, if you grew up like that, you'd be a said sic child too. Blame her father, she's innocent, even if she's causing harm, she doesn't know it's wrong.

Beth Thomas' case wasn't the worst? What could be worse than being 1-year old infant or even younger and getting raped and beaten up by one's own father? For all I know people start forming sense of self around the age of 1,5 years so I'm really surprised that with professional help, children can heal crucially well from something so severe and live their lives. It's beyond wonderful that they can, but amazing.
I dont understand how letting them know about the background of the children they are bringing home is not allowed !!! My husband and I are going thru an adoption process and we are allowed to know everything about the child even before we decide whether or not we want to adopt them
And how does that excuse anything? You talk to any murderer from Richard Speck to Jeffrey Dahmer on down and each one will have had a hard life. A hard life still does not excuse sociopathy.
My dogs freaked out when Cass started whimpering. It didn't take much to calm them down, but... I'm just really glad that the child/animal abuse scenes are off-camera, to obviously show that they're fake.,, Err... In this movie, anyway.
Actually, this movie is a little off the actual story. When Beth was being interviewed, she would tell the actual truth and have no remorse of what she has done.
That's what she got in real life and she's MUCH better. She was talking in the end after therapy and they asked her what her father did to her and the things she did. She couldn't even explain well because she was crying so much. It made such a difference on her.
I think the answer to your question is: she raged out more than those who (in outsider comparasion) had worse experiences, because it doesn't matter what the abusive experience is. The experience in itself doesn't cause the rage. The pain does. What matters is how well the person is able to cope with the pain. We are all individual souls after all. Of course there may have also been crusical differences in her lack of emotional development seeing to others. Again, individuality I think is why.
Wrong!!!!! I know several people in my life who were abused either physically, sexually, verbally, and emotionally. But they never did anything like this puta loca did.
this kid is a little terror. I was really abused as a child I was so unhappy but i got comfort from animals I would have died myself rather than hurt an animal. She is a phsychopath. I know she is not to blame but she is what she is and they do enjoy being cruel and brutal . The cuelty doesm't end unless someone REALLY intervenes,

I get that ~everyone~ in this comment section wants everybody to feel sorry for Kat / Beth ~ but jesus fricking christ... the girl needs a serious amount of therapy.
I said this before to someone else, but everyone is different. Maybe it was THAT horrible for her that she remembered it even if she was that age. I still remember things from when I was a baby, thankfully unlike her they where pleasant.

I'm sorry, but after Rob and Jill told Dr. Merritt everything Cat had done, why is he smiling at 8:10? And how could he not see that Cat was putting on an act? Aren't specialists supposed to see behind a person's facade?
Because Cat is so crazy that she was able to fool a mental health professional. If you paid attention to Cat this far in the movie, it becomes obvious that she’s extremely adept at manipulation. She had her doctor fooled as well as her daddy. They just saw her as a sweet young girl. She knew The Mom was on her case, because The Mom kept giving her those “I suspect something about you” looks. The Mom could see through the charm and BS facade that Cat was weaponizing. The Mom was first to see that the girl was an evil little brat.
@@JPerez9011 I have seen the movie before making the comment, so thank you for the clarification. I did notice that she was able to fool people into thinking that she wasn't doing anything wrong. To maybe clarify your comment, I don't think Jill saw Cat as "an evil little brat." I believe what you meant to say was that Jill saw that something was wrong with Cat because of the rages. She never thought of Cat as a brat or evil but figured that something was being hidden from them that Doris wasn't telling them. Rob and Jill had gone to Doris asking for some clarification after a major outburst and she said she was unable to share anything because she had her hands tied by the company's policies. There was no thinking of Cat as "an evil little brat" but as a child that had a problem they wanted to figure out so they could get her the help she needed. Kudos to those adoptive parents that they never gave up on her

They've already been thru a living hell.
The groping scene was creepy, but Dr. Merritt is cool. He may have been fooled by Catherine (Beth) at first, but he seemed so calm and chill. He's just the type of dude I'd like to have as my therapist.
When I first saw this movie, I thought Cat was going to touch him the same way she touched her grandfather!!! Granpa Henry should have hit her with his cane.
She didn't actually hurt the dog...She didn't actually hurt the dog... She didn't actually hurt the dog in the movie....She didnt actually hurt the dog in the movie... I tell my self...
I know several people in my life who were abused either physically, sexually, verbally, and emotionally. But they never did anything like this puta loca did.
You guys throw insults and dont realised she was extreamly neglected abused and raped she was raised without socialization never taught right or wrong she couldnt trust and she wanted to show her pain and didnt realise what she was doing was bad.
Is it just ridiculous drama for a movie, or is it reality that in the process of adoption the adoptive parents are not told about the children's history when there's something deeply affective there? I mean how could anyone ever hope a child to gain the home and help she/he needs if the potential family isn't informed about his/her problems in enough detail? Like those two said there; they need to know in order to understand her. Only then can they help her. This adoption policy is so fucked up.
In real life this child wasn't a coniving little psychopath. She was openly the way she was with no desire to hide or cover up anything she did and felt. Why didn't they portray it so in this movie? This can't be a intented for children movie anyway so why make a crucial change like that? I understand toning down the violence, but that kind of crucial behavioural change?.I'm asking only b/c deliberate & open violence and murderousness in children was already used in film before this film.
I'll say it again, the girl who plays Kat is genuinely amazing at acting.

Poor Eric. Poor Casey. She was tormenting them. I bet your tune would change if she were at school tormenting your child.
If someone hurt your pet or little brother/sister, I wanna see if you will say the same thing. Get real.
the poor doggy :'(
also, this is a little girl, who was abused when she was learning what love was,
the grandpa part was pretty funny though
That little girl was a child. It's the adopters that obviously have issues and there a damn good reason they couldn't, shouldn't have children.
A demon
She’s a devil in the flesh
For some reason when I saw the grandpa's facial reaction, I spit my koolaid out, choked and could not stop laughing. "Because i'm sooooo hot"
...wut.
😆
Well, they need to play some things up and alter some things for the sake of drama. It's a movie, not a documentary.
Do u know she was abused?
The groping scene was creepy, but Dr. Merritt is cool. He may have been fooled by Catherine (Beth) at first, but he seemed so calm and chill. He's just the type of dude I'd like to have as my therapist.
When I first saw this movie, I thought Cat was going to touch him the same way she touched her grandfather!!!
Granpa Henry should have hit her with his cane.
Mommy told me to tell you to bring Eric insiiiiiiiiiide....
She diiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiid.
That’s her evil manipulation. That little girl is a psycho.
She didn't actually hurt the dog...She didn't actually hurt the dog... She didn't actually hurt the dog in the movie....She didnt actually hurt the dog in the movie... I tell my self...
That poor dog!:'( If I adopted a kid and it hurt my dog...that kid would be out of my house in .5 seconds!
The girl abused though you can't hate on her too much
So because she was abused it’s fine for her to hurt animals? So I guess Aileen Wuernos is justified in killing because she was abused as well?
I know several people in my life who were abused either physically, sexually, verbally, and emotionally. But they never did anything like this puta loca did.
You guys throw insults and dont realised she was extreamly neglected abused and raped she was raised without socialization never taught right or wrong she couldnt trust and she wanted to show her pain and didnt realise what she was doing was bad.
True
you guys are absolutely right
That's an understatement.
Yeah I dont know why either
ME: eh this doen't seem to b that bad anymore. Little Girl: And u can do whatever u want bcuz i'm sooo hot ME: o gawd!!
