- Xenosaga is a pretty cool game and you should play it. This is my first time making a video like this that isn't super primary gameplay focused so I did my best. Any feedback for this in the comments is greatly appreciated and let me know if you'd like these more topic based videos again in the future!
Apologies for being so late to release this as I've been pretty busy recently, but hopefully this nice Xenosaga video will make up for it! Not sure exactly how active I'll be in the future but I would like to be more active again since I've got a got of new subscribers since my last upload. I've been working on this video for a while and put more effort into it than almost every other video on my channel so I really hope you enjoy!
As one final note I am dumb and forgot to mute one of the cutscenes when talking about Allen so hopefully that isn't too distracting since it's only 10 seconds and I suck at this.

Really enjoyed the video, and always enjoy videos talking about these games. They really don't get enough love. Really sucks too since KOS-MOS has been Namco's cameo queen where people know of the character but not so much the games she comes from.

To me 2 was the 2nd best but only because of story. It was definitely the weakest gameplay wise.

When I played Episode I for the first time and got to know this colorful and unique cast of characters, I found it incredible how much I could relate to everyone in their own way. It felt like each one of them represented just another aspect of my own personality and I loved everyone of them. And the story was just beyond epic. But when Episode III came out, it wasn’t *just* the story and characters anymore. It was also such a round and perfect game. Episode III is still one of my three personal favorite games of all time.
The avatar I’m using is a photo of my most expensive piece of merchandise: a 60cm (1:3) doll of KOS-MOS Version 4, which cost me more than a thousand dollars. that’s how much I love Xenosaga episode III.
Will always love this game, legitimately secretly one of reasons i want to get rich is to fund a remaster of the series to reenjoy this perfection

I'm dating myself here, but I randomly found xenosaga at a blockbuster when I was a kid and absolutely fell in love. I initially refused to play the xenoblade games because I was salty about saga being cancelled lol.
During my highschool days when I got my first part time job, on my first paycheck I went to a local mom & pops gamestore and randomly saw Xenosaga on their best games shelf which caught my attention so I bought it, been a fan of all the Xeno games ever since!
Don't neglect the blade games. Just my advice, play ALL of the "Xeno" games.

It also came with a extra DVD which had Episode 1 as an four hours movie on it.

Its basically the most Japanese RPG ever created. You got Mecha, space monsters, androids, and MOMO's magical girl transformation. It has just about every anime genre in it short of school life.

Xenoblade 1 though has tropes, it subverts them making those tropes interesting.

It is so nice to see the Xenosaga series get some love now. I have been with the game since day one and the fans are some of the best and most supportive. No other game/fan combo have even come close! I still miss the boards.

Xenosaga Ep 1 was my first game from Monosoft. I loved it but nobody I ever talked to had played it or even heard of it. Definitely underrated
yeah, this game pulled me into it way more than ffx ever did, and nobody would shut up about ffx.
I hope we can get a remake, as unlikely as it is. However, I'm fine with the Xenoblade series and hope it continues on its trend of remaking the Gears/Saga storyline.

Xenogears is one of my favorite of all time, that game lead me to xenosaga, and I actually have all of them
This game honestly means so much to me. As a seven year old I would always watch my grandpa play these games constantly. As a small child, all of these characters fascinated me. I would imitate their actions and phrases repeatedly. I remember that at one point I even wanted to create robots of my own, specifically these characters in real life. Thanks to this entire series, the idea of robots and androids grew on me and normally in any series a character like so will be my favorite. I'm sad that i'm not really able to talk about this game with people around me that have experience with, and I really wish one day it will hopefully get the remaster it deserves.

Xenogears, Xenosaga and Xenoblade are pinnacle of jRPGs. I love them all, back in early 2000s we had long chats on the forums just about -gears and -saga series and philiosophy behind them. I am so glad you didn't skip on them. I would be happy even with a straight, obscure port of those games on Switch. It was a masterpiece and one of the most underrated series...

Yeah xenosaga is just more underrated... and xc2 is kinda a spiritual retelling of xenogears according to mr.Takahashi... so I guess you could say it had its justice ?
It's easier to play XenoGears than XenoSaga.(in that it's easier to emulate PSX)
Personally I think XenoGears is the best Xeno game but XenoSaga needs a remaster at least so new people to the series can play it.

I played these games years ago; I even role played as Jr. Rubedo on MySpace and met an Albedo, Canaan, chaos, MoMo, KOS-Mos, Shion and others! Those were great days.
It´s so nice to see the love that you have for this series. Xenosaga 3 is one of my favorite games ever.
I beat every episode of these games at around the same time of 4:30 in the morning after grinding it out hard through the night after cleaning up after dinner. Even though I regretted it the follow day, the half delirium I was in after beating each one made the impact of each game hit me even more. Especially with the final boss themes that still hits me hard whenever I hear it.
I'm starting to believe that the best way to experience media is the evening following a restless night.
One of my problems with the Xenoblades, especially 2, is that it feels somewhat too formulaic and commercialized. The Xenosaga games didn't feel like that at all, they felt very passionate and drive. It's too bad they sold poorly. The world needs more thought provoking stories and themes to sell well.
Personally by the end of playing Xenogears and Xenosaga; I like Xenosaga for what it is more than what it means, and I like Xenogears for what it means more than what it is. But I find both amazing.
Ep 1 sold around 1.5M it was profitable according to Namco (though flopped in Japan -- all xeno games are much more popular in the west - also namco expected sales of 4-5M lol). Then Takahashi was fired in ep2, the story became a dumpster fire and the only thing good about 2-3 are the Kajura tracks. In Namco's defense 6 games was too ambitous as sales usually decrease when stories are continuations. Now you can do continuation stories (see Legend of Heroes) but you have to niche. Its why Takashashi makes more stand alone games these days w/ loose ties to the previous ones.
Xenoblade is a lot more shonen then the rest but 2 takes that to the extreme

This was probably one of the most underrated series on the PS2. I owned all 3 episodes on the console and sadly never got around to playing them before my PS2 was stolen when I joined the Army. This video has motivated me to revisiting the series on emulator. Really great in-depth analysis of the series.

Awesome video, I really enjoy Xenosaga 1-3 because they are great games to play as a series due to a interesting story, wonderful cast of characters, music, etc.
Also I like the character development of KOS-MOS (being more than a machine) and Allen (stand up for what's right).

I love seeing videos covering this series. These games deserve so much more love and recognition then it ever got. These games have special memories in my heart and were so ahead of their time. They barley got marketed either. I doubt we will ever get a remaster.. One can only keep hoping. Our fanbase is still strong though! Also they truly had such good story writing and characters. Each character was so unique. I have my old ps2 copies but could never purchase a copy of 3 it's nowhere. I will not play these on emulator. Emulators never run good most of the time. All in all fantastic video!!

I've really been wanting to play xenosaga for the longest time, and this is the big push I needed to finally go out and start hunting for some copies. There's some rough audio editing spots in the video (like at 15:50 where the game audio's covering up your voiceover, or having abrupt hard cuts instead of easing into one audio source from another), but I'd legit love to see more of this kind of content from ya ;w;b Great stuff man!

I've been planning on playing Xenosaga at some point, especially with how often you've recommended it. But now, I want to set aside some of the other RPGs I've been meaning to get to in order to play it. Obviously XC 1 and 2 are among my favorite RPGs out there, so if the best of both games are in Xenosaga, then I imagine I'll have a great time.
I'm especially curious as to the Biblical symbolism in the games. Like you said, it's definitely not commonly portrayed in a positive light, so that just increases my interest, and I imagine it's a great change of pace.
Also, thanks for mentioning some of the issues to Xenosaga 2. It's good to include the downsides to any game in a series so anyone who wants to play it will know what to expect, so I appreciate you taking time for that.

My friend got Xenosaga 1 as a free game with her PS2 for a birthday present when we were kids. I was a bit too young to understand the story but I always loved watching her play it. Seeing Ma Belle La Peache as a 12 year old was a lot to digest and admittedly gave me nightmares lol but it was a game that stuck with me. I played the games myself as a teenager and have never been so drawn into a storyline before. The writing is so smart and as you were saying - the characters are all so captivating in their own ways. The URTVs plot was always my favorite side of the series. The relationship between Rubedo, Nigredo, and Albedo is so immersive and complex. I’ve never felt that sort of empathy for a villain but Albedo’s storyline really pulls at your heartstrings. I hate that the gameplay of Xenosaga 2 had to be SO tedious because that was my favorite part of the series. It’s hard to believe Xenosaga has been apart of my life for 15 years now. I’ll always hold out hope for the HD remake. I’m not sure that it’ll ever happen but I would be overjoyed if it did. I’m happy you covered this series. It’s one of the most underrated games of our time and you did a great job of showcasing why.

I had played the Xenosaga series only once back when I was a little kid, and I recently started the trilogy over again (and I just beat the second episode tonight). There is so much more I understand now as an adult that I didn't really pay attention to as a kid. I'm looking forward to beating the third episode again and finally being able to scratch that Xenosaga itch.
I kind of quit during Episode 2. The parallels they drew to Xenogears though was very well done. One of these days maybe I'll finish it.
Don't give up! The 3rd episode is arguably the best of the trilogy! Original voice actors return and the story concluded nicely.
Loved this video!!! I played it back in the PS2 era and I was hooked. EP 3 is actually a rare game to get because they only a few copies. Xenosaga is on my top 5 best games list♡
AMAZING video man!! I'm replaying Xeno 1 now in HD essentially via emulator. I own all 3 games, but it's much nicer running them in 8x native resolution
I wish I pushed through xenosaga2... But I remember stopping because I couldn't stomach another random battle while going through this huge map and the fights just killed all momentum. I think that was the game that killed the original plan for seven episodes and caused the series to be crammed into just 3. I think I still have the preorder poster with Shion and Kosmos... Never got the third game though. Wish I finished it just to find out what happens to each character
Same. Once in a while I like to listen to 1 track from Xenosaga 2 and it's Evading the U-TIC Organization. That's about how far I got in the game XD
"Shion, my external appearance is down 5%. I need to be cleaned." - ep.1 Kos-Mos. Still one of my favorite all time lines. The Xeno series has one of, if not my most loved stories, tho I didnt care much for the Xenoblade games. The gameplay is also setup pretty well for the most part(ep.2 is questionable), the characters and narrative I feel are very well written and cohesive, albeit a bit overwhelming at times, but nothing convoluted like Kingdom Hearts. I also really love the tie-ins between Xenogears, given the Saga is the spiritual success to Gears. The music is unbelievable, especially for ep.1 composed by Yasunori Mitsuda(did the Chrono games and Xenogears) & 3 being composed by Yuki Kajiura who also did 2, tho with 2 they went a near completely different direction with gameplay, designs and music amongst other things that I feel werent for the better. Ep.1's battle theme is still one of my all time favorite battle tracks in all of gaming. All things said, please give the Xeno games a chance, at least Xenogears if you can. And if you cant, Id urge you to watch a good lets play of them

The Xenosaga Series is my favorite game series of all time. I put hundreds of hour into all 3 games and still play them even today. I hope the rumor about them getting a HD Remaster will come true. I've been playing these game off and on sense 2006. I don't know if Xenosaga Episode 3 came out on that year or not. I can't remember but I love your video about them.
I might need to replay this series again some time soon. I remember liking the 1st game the most an was let down by the 2nd cause of how short it was.

The Xeno series had a very unique history, unlike Fire Emblem series. It went from a great start with both Xenogears and Xenosaga 1 both hit 1m (was successful with that number at that time) to a dying series thanks to both Xenosaga 2/3 and then the series rise again with the Xenoblade series.
Now Bandai’s Xenosaga IP belongs to Nintendo. I don’t believe the licensing rights means anything but I can see a spin off of a xenoblade warriors game happening before a possible xenosaga 1 remastered just like how Nintendo announced Metroid prime 1 remastered.
Xenosaga 1 is a real struggle to push through, but 3 looks really good... Gonna have to persist I suppose.

I loved this series and played it as a teen. I wish they would remake the first 2 and then reboot it 3 through 6.
Arguably my #1 trilogy of all time, maybe even my top overall set of games, right next to Xenogears Disc 1. I've played a lot of games, but Xenosagas will always be in my top 5. Right up there with FF7, Chrono Trigger, and mass effect (before andromeda).

I still remember the day I got the first Xenosaga game, I was out at a mall with my best friend, we went into gamestop and I saw the game, the name immediately reminded me of Xenogears (I had no idea at the time the two were related in any way) which is one of my favorite RPG's of all time and decided to pick it up, went back to my friends place about a block away from the mall and popped the game into his PS2 and fell in love with KOS-MOS almost immediately.
All that being said, I really doubt these games will ever be released due the the heavy HEAVY religious overtones of them, I just feel like the world we live in now, with all of the "outrage" culture BS going on would cause so much controversy among people that if they wanted to release these games again they would have to heavily censor them and id rather they just not bother releasing them at that point.
Alright, this video convinced me. I'll give Xenosaga a shot.

I haven't played any of the Xeno games but have heard a lot about XenoBlade and played Pyra and Mythra in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. This seems like a great series and the Xenosaga trilogy should get a remake or port or a Xenosaga collection with all 3 games for modern gaming consoles. Cool video. ^_^
One of the best games I ever played. It sat in my shelf for almost a year before I ever got into it, soooo glad I did
I seem to recall a DVD with all of XS1's cutscenes being included with XS2.. maybe just a special edition or something! I have all 3, and played 1 to death.. 2 kinda turned me off a bit from the series so I played 3 only once, maybe I should revisit it now... Awesome video as always

It's so strange to think Xenosaga will turn 20 in 2022, but that's not a surprise when I spend 7 years being active member of Xenosaga fandom and knew every single thing about it's lore and characters during that time. I think I will forever be sad how Xenosaga ended. I have idea why you didn't talk about side content like Xenosaga pied piper or Xenosaga DS which give so much to xenosaga story. First one being game fully telling Ziggy's past which was very short-cut in main games and second one having Episode 2 story like it should have been before Namco pushed away Takahashi and Soraya Saga (story writers) away. It lights up more Shion-Realians complicated relationship much more, more sceenes with Testaments, chaos and what really happened to Sakura. I always felt that Missing Year story was suppose to be bigger and always felt bad about it not being a game since Nephilim is my favorite NPC character in game. I know that you tried to encourage people to play Xenosaga and stuff like this and some other problems that Xenosaga had can push people away. You mentioned also problems with english dub. To tell truth I can't play Xenosaga outside fan-made undub versions. Episode 2 dub was so bad it scared me away from any dubs for years. As you say music from Xenosaga is amazing and I agree. Still there is shadow even in that aspect. While ep 1 music is perfect, ep 3 beyond epic, ep 2 is again a problem. While half of soundtrack is made by Yuki Kajiura for pre rendered cutsceenes, the rest of gameplay and cutscenes run by ps2 engine are made by different compositor. That parts are very bad, they were so bad English version removed this music from engine-cutsceenes, but they are still existing in undub and jap versions of game. Sadly as you say we rather have no chance for getting HD versions of Saga. I still love Xenosaga's story and characters, even if I don't have time anymore to beat 3 episodes every year like I've done in past. This project was too big for game, still if there will be a miracle one day and someone remake Xenosaga like it should have been (or at least without any cuts from "Shion's act") I would be happiest person on the world
Ps. I'm one of those strange people who enjoys sadistic gameplay of Episode 2 XD (once I had to figure it out during last boss battle. My first time playing this Episode was a mess)

This was an absolutely beautiful video, and I actually agree with everything you said. That it doesn't have an HD release on current consoles is an actual sin. I've actually got AVI files of Xenosaga and Xenosaga II'S cutscenes. I watch them at least once every few years. I also still have the third game, and agree it is by far the best one. So much of these games' presentations were far ahead of there time. It's sad the lengthy cutscenes were a sore point for so many people. I loved them. I never got to play the Xenoblade games, but I want to. I did play Xenogears though, and if you haven't played it, you owe it to yourself to do so. The presentation isn't great, but the story rivals, if not surpasses the Xenosaga series. And the music is incredible, even now. I still prefer Xenosaga for its presentation mind you. I wonder what if Kos Mos and Arnold Schwarzenegger as terminator fought each other or teamed up. It would be epic. I bet Kos Mos was inspired by Arnold Schwarzenegger as terminator.
I finally watched the video, and I must say, props to you for not just saying, "Just go out and pirate/emulate the game". It'd be very easy to since most people wouldn't have a problem with it, but you stuck to your values and didn't, and I really respect that.
This is one of my favorite series! I need to hook up my PS2 again. The story really is amazing.
I have all 3 of these games. I have only completed the first and about a dozen hours into the second. I'd honestly forgotten how much I enjoyed it. Thank you for reminding me!

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is where I stepped in. Until then I spent a lot of time on another game which took up the whole of my life, so it felt. So finding this was excellent due to me wanting to know more and more about this game and it's origins. I've noticed you do a lot of Xeno you tube work Enel and I certainly am very appreciative of this. Even though, as usual, I am very very late to the party! I hope, not matter how old you get, as long as this keeps going, you will continue to supply the brilliant time and work spent making these youtubes. This is not to dis any other work you've done!
