Great video. My new distributor didn't come with the paint mark and this got me going. Other videos were good too but they assumed that you would have the mark on it. Thanks dude.
I've spent days trying to figure out what's going on, watched this and realized shes probably at tdc exhaust not at tdc compression haha man oh man...😂🤦♂️ Got to excited it was almost done I guess and didnt think about it😂
I always check the tdc of #1 piston by inserting a screwdriver or pick into the spark plug hole and feel it with your right hand while your left hand turns the crank. I do this because you should never trust factory marks plus you can get it 1 tooth off and be a nightmare to chase down your mistake. An old balancer ring could slip, A new balancer could be mismarked, a timing chain could be mismarked as well. Since you have a nice painted engine, use a black magic marker to add your marks to exterior lip of distributor and intake. This will help if you do have to hold pressure down on distributor while bumping the engine to get that oil pump shaft to line up and mesh. Then double check everything quickly with your marks.
My issue is the cover is up against the upper intake. Then when I need to adjust it with the computer it's off. I can't just lift twist and drop like I did last time
My vortec 7.4 has 2 timing marks on the timing cover one like yours and another one at 5 pm. The 5pm one aligns with the timing marks on the timing chain, which one is correct?
I no the vortec has crank sensor but can I put a old one wire distributer and carburetor on the vortec how would I time it without using crank sensor Can I
vortec turned the small block chevy into junk. I've shunned vortecs decades ago. I would have switched it either back to a TBI or HEI carburetor setup. you really wasted money on a big turd.
By far one the best video. Straight to the point 👌🏻

You had me granting you a "like" by the two-minute mark.

Is it possible to use one of these computer controlled ignitions with a SBC 350 that came with a mechanical distributor?
Thanks!

If your 1 or 3 teeth off, could you use a scan tool to relearn it?
Thanks for the video
Great way to explained
It helped alot

There should b a gasket between the manifold and base of distributor.
Que admisión tienes?
How'd it run after install. You look like your a tooth off, same as mine, but it fires up and no check engine codes. But runs like crap.
No paint mark on distributor. What are the "other things" you spoke of in your video? Thanks in advance :)
I'm going to give you some advice buddy
can i send my 5.7 to you for rebuild I dont have the time to do it myself
Yeah mine doesn’t have a paint mark 😪

Vortecs are good when u get them right now once u start having problems you might as well redo the whole damn motor and wiring harness
