    Ian Hislop was saying he wanted to remain friends with Angus and saddened that it didn't happen. The way Ian talked to him especially since the story came out you could see why Angus didn't want to.

    Angus had to accept that this would happen because of his actions and the position and personality he cultivated on the show. He can't honestly complain about the actions of Paul and Ian - I think ignoring the issue or moving on too quickly would have been hypocritical and would have ruined the integrity of the show. I do however, believe the show was better with Angus or at least with a permanent host. The guests host novelty has gone on for too long now.....but you can't argue with the show's success

    • @harsimaja9517
      @harsimaja9517 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The guest host isn't a novelty, though. It's just that HIGNFY is the one big panel show where the host is a guest as well. It's just a fixed feature. It doesn't add or remove anything, but can make interesting ones themselves a novelty so there are 3 rather than 2 shots at a new fun face for that week

      I respectfully disagree. I think the guest hosts add a chaotic element which makes the show more unpredictable and fun. Angus always seemed a smug twat to me, and the show was always about Ian and Paul, really.

      @@truecentral718 I respectfully agree with you. A show that might be hosted by Ann Widdecombe one week and Richard Ayoade the next is going to be unpredictable and fun. Ann wasn't the greatest host, but I thought she made the show really funny, mostly at her own expense.

    The show did NOT get better after Angus Deayton. If anything, it got worse because the audience saw that the team of three is actually not a "team" in the real meaning of the word since they don't care about each other. They should be with Deayton, not against him. The "we're three friends talking about the news" illusion disappeared and it was one of the most important things that was keeping the show going. We were mostly watching these three characters and their relationships, the news are easy to come by in any platform.

    • @soeffingwhat
      @soeffingwhat ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The show was great but the different guest hosts have definitely added to it. After all the further news of Angus was coming out it was becoming too hard to do the show. If he'd stayed on it probably would not have lasted. Its a shame but I think it couldn't be helped/

      Why should they support Angus if they don't agree with his actions?
      He cheated on his wife to do illegal drugs with sex workers.
      That is horrible. Cruel. Unethical. Heartless. The drugs were a crime.
      If my coworker cheats on their spouse and commits a crime, I won't support them for the sake of my company.

      @@janeeyre1990 well she wasn't his wife but yes he did cheat on her. He claims he didn't know this woman was a prostitute, he did a very stupid thing regardless. I've seen people do cocaine, its illegal but at least he wasnt' doing Heroin.

    • @beenaplumber8379

      Does anybody know what Ian and Paul might have been saying to Angus before this happened? I mean, had that sort of activity been an ongoing concern (doing coke with a hooker sounds like something that doesn't usually happen only once), and they had warned him time after time that he needed to get control of himself? Had he ignored them after they warned him there would be consequences? I think the answers to those questions would shed some light on any bad blood that became apparent, and if we don't know the answers to those questions, I think it sheds light on our own rush to judgement. I think there are always important details to celebrity scandals that the public never gets to know, which is why I really don't like hearing about them. We are guaranteed to get only part of the story because most of it is (rightfully) private.

    Qudos to the woman in the audience...I wasn't a great fan of Angus Deayton and a bit of ribbing is one thing but I would call what Hislop and Merton were doing, workplace bullying and not very pleasant to listen to.

  • @steveyj75

    The tension in that room is incredibly thick, and it is obvious that none of them want to be there. Ian and Paul are incredibly smug and sanctimonious about other peoples' personal foibles and peccadilloes, and I fantasize about their comeuppances coming in various humiliating scenarios. Oh, and thanks so much, +RIXRADvidz, some punch and biscuits would be lovely! For some reason, my mouth is very dry and I'm starving...

    • @jeffnettleton3858
      @jeffnettleton3858 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Except that the previous episode proved that Angus was now a liability, as he was part of the story, not a commentator of it, regardless of whether it was private or not. It was now a public story and was fodder for anyone coming on there or a critic of the program. Deaton should have resigned voluntarily for the good of the show; but, that would require actual moral fiber and courage, which a coke snorting binge with prostitutes, while being in a long term relationship does not demonstrate.

    • @patharasown
      @patharasown ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The show is based on taking the piss out of politicians and celebrities and calling them on their behavior and actions. There was no way Angus continue in the role without looking like a hypocrite, and by extension so would the show. Paul, particularly was pretty miffed with Angus.
