  • Making FREE filament from recycled PET Plastic Bottles! In this video, I show how I load the cut ribbon into the Pultruder and tie it off to the take-up spooler. Once loaded I explain what the tension on the ribbon should feel like and how you can tell if the resulting filament is of good quality.

Thanks! There will be a few more coming. Next ones will be about making large spools for the PET and then another on welding sections together.

Next video will be about welding sections of filament together and putting them on the large spools I make. After that will be slicer/printer settings.

Greetings friend, very good video. Content related to PET filament is appreciated.
I have a problem with my filament making machine, since I changed the nozzle due to wear and tear, when I try to make filament, it cuts off a few centimeters after extrusion.
I wonder, based on your experience in making PET filament, what would be the main causes of the filament cutting a few centimeters after extrusion?
I would also like to know what is the best way to drill a hole in the nozzle so that the filament has a good diameter.
    Beforehand thank you very much.

Not sure why your ribbon/filament would be breaking after pultruding. Do you have the correct width based upon the thickness of the plastic? As far as the nozzle, I just use standard 3D printing brass nozzles and drill them out with a 1.7mm drill bit I found on Amazon. Did you also drill/taper the heat block where the ribbon feeds in?

It was the diameter of the nozzle hole, I was using a 1.5mm drill bit instead of 1.7mm, then I reviewed all the possible solutions, tape size, thickness, temperature and speeds; It ends up being the size of the hole.
Thank you very much for answering.@@KevinGroninga3D

Curious, how did you make the spool at 0:11? I've noticed my filament is a bit fiddly about what kind of spool I put it on after I've made it. Splicing filament is working but I can't wind the filament very tight or the splice breaks. Any splicing tips or is there a specific diameter that the filament should be wound around?

I show about my cardboard spools with the large 8” inner hubs in this video.

why not making smaler ribbons and meld them together true the nozzle so if u make x meter from one bottle u maybe can make xxx meter from tree bottles with for example 3 ribbons of 3mm. so you dont need to meld them thogether.... just reasoning...

It’s much easier to weld the filament sections together AFTER they’ve been thru the Pultruder. Trying to attach ribbons together is somewhat difficult and if not done right, it will NOT go thru the nozzle of the Pultruder. It will be too much plastic. You really have to understand how a Pultruder works. It’s NOT melting the plastic into a liquid. It’s merely warming it enough to roll it over into a tube. As an example, if your ribbon is slightly too wide, it will also NOT be able to be pulled thru the nozzle.
