    There must've been a change to the rules? At 24:47, Mike said that the Peek Action doesn't let you look at the hidden stack. But the rulebook on page 10 says you can.

    • @meeplemansions
      @meeplemansions 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello bgm 1961! No changes in the rules. I think you may be confusing "how" to peek, with what you are "allowed" to peek. You reference page 10 of the rulebook, but that is just telling you "how" to peek without revealing information to your opponent. But if you read page 7, the Peek Action states that you can peek at 2 mechanisms **within the visible lock area**. So what I said you can't look at the Hidden Stack, that is correct. If you are unsure which is the Hidden Stack, take a look at page 5, and it shows the Hidden Mechanism Area. That is the stack you are not allowed to peek.
      I hope that clears it up for you, and thanks for watching! :)

      And just in case we are working from different versions of the rulebook, I am reference Rulebook v1.0. But the rulings are still the same.

    • @bgm-1961
      @bgm-1961 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for responding! And yes, we are referencing different versions, and the rulings are NOT the same. According to the current Rulebook (v1.1), from page 10 (Peek Actions), under "Peek:"
      "Peek at any 2 Mechanisms (in the visible or Hidden Lock Areas) and their Failsafes (top Failsafes only)."
      Regardless, it's nothing worth losing any sleep over! I just wanted to be sure that I wasn't misreading the rulebook. In the end it looks like you simply need to grab the latest rulebook before you break out the game again! Bottom Line is that your videos are very good, despite. All good! :)

      I'm glad I quoted the rulebook version so we could get that cleared up. They did indeed change that after this stream was posted. My apologies for the confusion. I'll have to research more as to why they changed that ruling, as that means the "hidden" area isn't so hidden anymore. LOL

      I have now added the edit to the video description. Thank you for bringing the change to my attention. :)

    Really loved the video and the production - especially the three camera format. Plus the teaching was at the right pace. As such you have a new subscriber.
    Though I only wish that you had spent even a little time describing and showing how to set-up the stacks to start the game. That was the ONLY part I found confusing in the entire rulebook, yet was the only thing you didn't cover! :)

    • @meeplemansions
      @meeplemansions 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually, I did cover how to set up the stacks at 10:10. If that wasn't clear, and you have questions, let me know. :)
      Thank you for the kind words about the video, and hope you enjoy the game!

      Yes, I saw that. And you did a great job of describing how the stacks are supposed to look *after* they've been constructed. (And when I said, "great" job, that was being sincere). But when you quickly mentioned at 10:12 that you were going to "set them up again", is when I sort of expected that you would show us HOW to construct the stacks. I mean, what is the technique you use to randomly grab the chips and build your "sandwiches" without actually looking at any of the chips? The rulebook is a bit nebulous in this regard... so what method did you use to satisfy the instructions in the rulebook? I guess that's what I was missing from the video.
      So when you did the actual construction, it was all under the table and never talked about. You guys talked about other things while you constructed the stacks, and then moved onto the gameplay after the stacks were already placed.
      Where I'm coming from is that constructing the stacks for setup isn't intuitively obvious at first... this is a unique game in that regard. Sure, lots of other games have blind setups, but nothing like having to select AND actually manipulate components in the blind.
      Finally, this post may sound like I'm a fumbling idiot that can't figure it out on my own. Of course I did. The process of building the stacks *becomes second nature once you've done it once*. But figuring out how to build the stacks for that VERY FIRST TIME is where it gets a little "wonky" and where the rulebook sort of fails in making clear the "how to" part... sort of leaving it up to the devices of the player. Thusly this is my VERY long-winded way of saying that I was merely curious in *how* you went about constructing the stacks in the blind!

      Michael J Hey Michael! Shouldn't be long now for your copy to arrive! (Unless you went with November delivery) Hope this gave you a sense of how it plays, and that you enjoy playing when you get your copy. Thanks for watching!

    Hi, I was wondering what the replay value is? If you solve the lock/room; is there any reason you would play the same room again and again? Or does the lock combination changes if you play it again and you basically have a new puzzle to solve each time?

    • @meeplemansions
      @meeplemansions 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Philippe! The set up is randomized each play, so you will have a new puzzle every time. :)
      Thanks for watching!

    At about 10:10 or so it would be nice to show what a completed lock looks like. I cannot tell what your trying to do based on what you are trying to describe.

      Hi Samantha! Yes, I was in on the Kickstarter for both the Scroll & Codex, and a couple of their Spellbooks as well! They do fantastic work. Thank you for watching! :)

    I love the idea of a lock picking game, but this seems to more about winning by scoring points as opposed to being the first player to solve all the puzzles of gradually unlocking a safe (or whatever).
    Am I wrong about this perception?

    • @meeplemansions
      @meeplemansions 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Simon! I'm not sure the two ideas you're mentioning are mutually exclusive. Yes you win by scoring points, but you score points by solving the puzzles. If you watch how we solve them, you'll see that you score points by trying to arrange the various elements in the correct order, while your opponent is trying to do the same.
      I'm not sure if that answers your question, but I hope it helps! Thanks for watching!

      Thanks for your reply, Michael :)
      I guess when I heard about TripLock I imagined it would be something rather different. The mechanics of it do seem very interesting, and certainly unique from my point of view. I guess I just disappointed myself with my own expectations/preconceptions, so that's my own fault.
      I'll just have to wait to see if someone develops a game that scratches my particular thieving itch ;) hehe

    • @meeplemansions
      @meeplemansions 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      No worries, Simon! Now I'm curious what your expectations were! Were you picturing something physical, instead of a more abstract representation? Now I'm picturing the Skyrim lockpicking minigames, and could really go for something like that! ;)

    • @simonjrobinson
      @simonjrobinson 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      As strange as this must sound, I'm not 100% sure what my expectations were. There was nothing concrete that I had in mind. That being said, I was hoping for something deeper/heavier in terms of the puzzle solving. Being able to win the game by getting lots of quick points for solving single elements of the lock seems a little too shallow and simple for my particular liking. But I'll be the first to admit that I'm very fussy when it comes to my games :D
      For me, it would need to be all or nothing. You either crack the entire lock mechanism to access the safe (or whatever) successfully, or you get nothing. Again, that's just my preference.
      I think I may check out TripLock as a solitaire game instead of a 2 player. It could be more to my liking then.
