  • Guitar, Synth and Bass demo of the clear grinding tones within the Plumes Small Signal Shredder Overdrive by EarthQuaker Devices
    Available for purchase at: thepedalzone.com/plumes/
    Plumes is EarthQuaker’s latest take on the classic green 808 screamer, but with drastic component and internal voltage changes, giving this way more clarity and headroom, but also way more grind and punch throughout its 3 different modes. Plumes was also designed to work well with Synths and Bass. Let's check it out!

    I haven't turned this pedal off since I got it. It pairs so well with everything. It's almost like its own instrument. I've been having a blast patching it around with every pedal and guitar I've got and seeing what comes out!

      Happy to hear you're enjoying it as well. I was really surprised by how good it is and how much I actually like it, because TS-style pedals are usually not my thing. But that Jamie Stillman has a way with dirt pedals. He always brings out the best in a drive circuit ☺

    Your demo vids are amazing! Love your style.
    This is what I want out of a TS style pedal. I'm trying to keep my general tone fairly open without too much compression as I have learned to appreciate the nuances of player coming through. This gives that mid push one needs without too much of that compression. The clarity is what makes this pedal stand out to me. Pushing other drives or my amps with the Plumes maintains and even enhances pick attack and playing details instead of hiding them. It's the kind of pedal that encourages you to play better because of that.

    Been playing since 1981 best OD pedal I have ever used very user friendly and does it all plus Affordable . Better then a Ibanez TS IMO . I use a Blackstar ID Core 10 watt for practicing and wasn't getting enough growl on the 2 - Hi - Gain channels for my tastes . This fixed it and fixed it well now dialing in a CHUG is almost to easy and for searing but clear sounding lead work . Best $99 bucks I have spent at Sweetwater ever also got 48 month Financing on a $99 dollar pedal that's a DEAL !!

  • @nathanschad8048

    Can you dial it in as a transparent OD, or clean boost. Not sure what I mean. Basically My board runs both my electric and acoustic and I want something that I can boost my acoustic clean (my Taylor has to have a boost to get signal to our mixing board ) , but later switch it dirty if I’m playing my electric. I don’t have much board room/cash and 99$ sounds awesome. If not can you suggest a budget boost pedal that can toggle between clean boost and OD?

    • @thepedalzone

      Not stupid at all. Plumes is super versatile, and contains a ton of tonal flavors and nuances. You can easily have two on your board to cover low and higher gain purposes.

      I tried it at EQD Day a few weeks ago, and they sound really good together.

    • @thepedalzone
      @thepedalzone  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Plumes into Westwood is an awesome combo. Westwood has a much flatter mid response, hence Plumes can really help push your riffs or solos through the mix when needed. Or you can also stack their vastly different gain characteristics (Westwood being tighter and more grainy, and Plumes being a bit more lose and smooth), and get a new killer saturated tone.

    • @matthewlogan7587
      @matthewlogan7587 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not really sure, I think a while ago I heard Jamie say something about how the grey channel was based off a DOD 250 and the Plumes of course is based off the TS, but maybe some of the clipping options are similar?

    • @thepedalzone
      @thepedalzone  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, man! Happy you enjoyed that. It was a fun riff to make. Plumes and Gray Channel are two completely different beasts. Gray Channel is based on the DOD 250, and simply offers versions of that circuit with different clipping diodes. It's a nice drive/fuzz pedal that quickly lets you switch between two different sounds. It can go from clean boost to straight up sustaining fuzz depending on what mode you choose. You don't get any tone controls though. So you have to be into the core sound of the different clipping modes. Plumes is based on the Ibanez 808 Tubescreamer, but sports radical component and internal voltage changes, which actually removes it quite a bit from the TS world. It has way more low-end response and high-end clarity, which make the classic TS mid-hum less intrusive and makes the pedal feel more "transparent". On top of that you have 3 different modes, which sports different clipping diodes, for vastly different sounds (from clean boost and all the way to punchy higher gain tones). Plumes also has a smoother gain structure whereas the Gray Channel is a bit more "hairy" and raspy. So it all comes down to the sounds and features you need.
