Mahindra Bir Bikram Shah Dev श्री ५ महाराजाधिराज महेन्द्र वीर विक्रम शाह देव, was the son of king Tribhuvan. He was just 34 years old when he became king of Nepal. During his reign, Nepal was respected all over the world. Beside that do you know why the world respected King Mahendra?

What i don't understand is we were never taught about King mahendra in our school or else where. I happened to meet an old man from canada who was working here in nepal during the time of mahendra and he knew so much about nepal and king mahendra that i had never heard of. According to him, if not for king mahendra Nepal would have been like Sikkim, either as a part of China or India. What he did for his nation and his people is commendable. I sometimes wonder what if he had lived a long life?

Wow . Glad you shared this piece . Also for a fact the commendable word would be very lighter for what he deserves . What he did was unparallel for his tenure considering the situation ( against all those odds ) . The depressing reality we are living is that our nation is ruined and our image is shattered, butchered ( exception : if you wanna take shameless pride on the name of Lord Buddha and Everest ) on every forum which goes against what this great man aiming for or the height he took us .
Only if you dig around history, why King Mahenra is greatest king ever , you'll soon find .
Its because crooks run our education system. Its a country where plane hijackers become PM. So our country is deeply compromised.
I still remember my grandfather used to tell me story about king mahendra. Mahendra used to visit people's home as a general citizen wearing a scarf,glass,cap and patched clothes. My grandparents used to live in taplejung. One day king mahendra went to their home without letting them recognize him and drank a glass of water and asked them about their village major problem which was food due to unfavourable weather. After 2hour mahendra left and after 20days a group of army came to my grandparents home with 60sack of rice and grains and rs.2 and distributed to all the families of that village individually and later on the army told them shree 5 mahendra sarkar sent all these for people of this village and after they realize that man who asked about the major problem of their village and who drank water in my grand parents home was king mahendra..

I got a huge amount of respect for our late King Mahendra Bir Bikram Shah. He was a true patriotic and a visionary king. I find it crazy that there were hindi languages spoken, taught in schools and indian politicians were involved in our politics along with the use of their currency. And to abolish all of those things, it takes a lot. He was equally a good writer too. It's crazy to miss someone who died before you was born.

King Mahendra was the real iron man of Nepal.. I like his son Birendra too.. But for me he was weak bcz of all the education he received in foreign country. He couldn't carry the legacy of his father, and easily surrendered to corrupt politicians we have today. King Mahendra grew up on this soil only, knew the conditions, and was the real ferocious lion & patriot.

Nepal used to have approximately same value currency as British, the only reason Nepal used get attention and Royal Nepali family had good education and can spoken good English. Now Politicians only can speak other than Nepali is hindi in international press. So yes as Nepali we lost our pride.There is only Indian influences people ,corruption in this country and only dependency on Indian government. I feel one day Nepal will become Indian part.

If there was no Mahendra in Nepal, Nepal as a nation wouldn't exist. When he took his reigns, the nation was looted by the Ranas and the coffers were empty. He boldly made East-West Highway which is still the running blood of Nepali economy. At certain parts, Nepali had to travel to India to come back to Nepal again because of the lack of highway. Nepal used to run in Indian Currency but he initiated Nepali currency and stopped Indian currency being used in Nepal. He started industrialization process in Nepal. Ask any industrialists of those era, the machines imported used to be top notch. Panchayat was itself a great democratic practice. You could elect panchas to run the country. But foreign hawks couldnt play in Nepal without installing the multi-party democracy system. Look what the bloody hell 30 years of bloody democracy has given us. He also build Araniko highway and linked Nepal with China. Do you know he used to wear the sun-glasses most of the time, so that others couldn't judge him based on the movement of his eye balls. He was at another level. All the Nepali owe their existence as a Nepali to him in the modern times.

My dad worked for ACAP( Annapurna Conservation Project) one of the many Conservation Projects under King Mahendr's Trust known as "King Mahendra Trust For Nature Conservation (KMTNC)". Because of my dad's official documents I was able to know about this all during my school days and a big fan of King Mahendra since then. It's sad that this dirty politics has changed the trusts name into "Nation Trust for Nature Conservation ( NTNC ) erasing our Kings History. 🙏 Knowing this makes me emotional whenever I recall this fact. 🇳🇵

It’s surprising to see that our social studies book didn’t mentioned his patriotic and visionary side. Instead, we learnt about Panchayati rule and Piskar Massacre related to him. That’s the common thing in Nepal. Where a person with an ambitious vision is perished without any trace by the ill minded people.
We can thank him and his forefather Late King Prithivi Narayan Shah for giving us an identity as a Nepali rather than something else.
And in my book king Mahendra was taken as bad vision and our teacher told us just like this the history will be written accordingly to politics but I will tell you the real events I saw

During the reign of King Tribhuwan, there was increased indian influence. Indian government wanted to capture Nepal slowly, They were using King Tribhuwan. But, after the demise of king Tribhuwan, King Mahendra became the new king and tackled all the Indian strategies making them unsuccessful.
He was indeed a clever, courageous, nationalist and visionary KING.
