HV out here making top quality videos again. You did a bloody great job, brother! I agree this remake is for a very niche audience but people should check it out once it goes on sale cause these games are a blast (hehe) to play through. Loved your little tale at the start about stumbling across this mysterious game at an Internet cafe. Reminded me when I first came across THOTD. It was at an arcade in a bowling alley and the machine was this massive, intimidating, and scary monstrosity that would loudly play the sounds of screams and zombie's moans. I was already terrified before I put any money into the machine. If you haven't, check out LTarget's THOTD retrospective series on the original games. It's a great watch. Keep killing it, dude xx
Excellent video. I agree the graphics kinda don't get the style and charm of the old game correctly. I would have liked it if they did like Halo MCC did and gave you an option to have old graphics or new graphics
I agree with what your saying about adding some new content/lore bits to these remakes of older, simple games. But I’d personally say that I prefer how Medievil for PS4 handled its remake. People want that same experience they had back in the day. And the things that were added to that game where things from its sequels to make combat flow a bit better/smooth little things out. Nothing too crazy. Plus the new content was consulted by the old devs for things they had wanted to do in the past with it that never made it to the finished product. As much as the Demon Souls remake can annoy me with things like enemies giving you like no damn souls or grinding the fucking grass because it doesn’t drop enough, they were trying to keep the experience pretty much the same. It’s a fine line to walk I think. It’s been done good and bad trying to do either style of remake. It’s down to how the quality of the final product ends up I’d say. Good video though! Hopefully you’ll post some more on here with lil reviews or maybe some showcases for the games you share on Twitter that you like a lot 👍
I think generally any remake game should have toggle options for things like original control scheme, audio and graphics when applicable. When it comes to changing or adding content to the plot that's a trickier thing HOWEVER I'll always personally be in the camp that acknowledges that no amount of retcons, remakes or reboots can change the original. I don't think anyone should let unsatisfying or unsavory developments to a franchise spoil their enjoyment of the original work that brought them joy
@@Chemicaldessert I agree, although having that fresh layer of paint and the much better performance is sometimes all I want. There’s the issue of changing TOO much sometimes also. It’s always a balancing act and there’s good and bad examples on both sides. But the Halo: CE and Halo 2 remakes giving the option to switch on the fly to the previous game was genius. And the Medievil remake adding the side content missions that unlock the OG game from the main menu is the next best thing (which to my knowledge also makes it the first and only PS1 game emulated to modern consoles). The other problem being accessibility. Sometimes people just wanna play the OG game but there’s no easy or affordable way to do so. So remakes or remasters are a god send sometimes. That’s what makes the bad ones sting for people I believe
