    Good video. We are 4-5 years from retiring and doing the slow travel thing. We do own a house and car in Puerto Rico and plan to keep that as our home base. We will sell everything on the mainland, say goodbye to the snow, and travel with a carry on only❤

    omg WOW you stayed in Rincon, it sounds magical. and the internet speeds sounding SO good, this is crucial. Thank u for being transparent about ur seasonal depression, I find myself very prone to struggling badly with seasonal depression so its a huge reason why I am strongly considering moving to PR. Slow roasted pork and plantains sound deliciousss. Great video, thank u!

    Very good review! I am from PR and have lived in Europe and USA so I can compare it to a few destinations and you did a fair and balanced review. The only thing that I think can be clarified is that there are no dirt roads to move around in a normal routine, only to get to certain beaches, in fact PR is one of the top places in the world in paved roads per square mile around 94%.

    • @TheWanderingHartz
      @TheWanderingHartz  3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks, we try to balanced. Fair enough about the dirt roads, we encountered a lot of those headed to the amazing beaches and they were car damaging bad. We included it as a lot of people visiting the island are renting a car and likely to be headed to some of those beaches. Thanks for sharing!

    I visited pr in jan 2024 and found home prices half or less than nashville I am from nashville tn have lived here my entire life but 1 day I will leave because of the great taxes in pr I do very well with stocks bonds and real estate great weather food prices at the store aren't much different than TN but for me that is ok I won't own a car Uber travel is very cheap and I just need airport access or hospital access

    You state that Puerto Rican food has "Tejano" influences in your video, but I would have to disagree. Instead of stating "Tejano" I would have stated the food has "Taino" and "Carib" influences which are the two main Indigenous tribes people which inhabited the island when the Spanish originally arrived. Many Puerto Ricans today continue to carry the genes of only our Taino and Carib Indian grandmothers as our Taino and Carib Indian grandfathers did not produce offspring due to the Spanish enslavement or widespread extermination of all male Taino and Carib men during the conquest of the island by our Spanish grandfathers. It was our surviving Taino and Carib Indian grandmothers who introduced some of their culinary traditions to our current cuisine. "Tejano" is a term generally used for Mexican American culture and cuisine which although they had similar traditions and cuisine there still remain many differences between the Aztec, Inca and other Central American tribes from those in the Caribbean. The food was also different due to the different food ingredients available in both places. And I think if a Puerto Rican overhears you ever compare the food in Puerto Rico to Mexican cuisine and describe it as "Tejano" some may even take offense to it.

    You guys forgot to mention the homeless Dogs that are in the streets in some parts in PUERTO RICO....And also did you guys notice all the homeless Cats inside of San Juan it is sad.....Now my personal cons inside of PUERTO RICO is the cost of prices on the food also the transportation on buses are very slow inside of SAN JUAN region and of course the POWER OF ELETRICITY goes off.Sometimes for hours.

    • @TheWanderingHartz
      @TheWanderingHartz  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      We only spent 2 nights in San Juan and the rest of our time was spent in Fajardo and Rincon so we didn't see a lot of stray cats. We didn't encounter very many street dogs, only a few on the beaches in Rincon. Yes, public transportation is not great in Puerto Rico. Thanks for watching and commenting!

      Stray 🐕🐈easy fix...despite shelters...overpopulation is the mayor problem! It takes locals and goverment to go hands on!
      Power outages?...solar panels which are being installed by the thousands... food..grow your own 😂...food everywhere is expensive.

    That's the way to do it weigh the pros and cons make a decision. Don't be like other posters that don't like it in Puerto Rico but stay there and all they do is whine and complain. In rural areas especially the West Northwest Coast having your own generator and a cistern are a must.

    • @TheWanderingHartz
      @TheWanderingHartz  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, we see your point, but the island is far more populated in the last 400 years and thus the risk of loss of life has become exponentially greater over that time.
      If you are able to accept that risk, good for you, however not everyone is comfortable with the potential loss of life or or financially able to deal with property damage and the aftermath.
      As for us, we would not be as concerned, but we would also be less likely to remain on the island in the peak of hurricane season. Not everyone has that option. 🤔
