What a great vehicle that was rebuilt so beautifully with a lot of work, money and, above all, love. I think that, just like in the USA, there is no place in Germany where a crowd would immediately form around the liner.
Could you spend any less time during the video actually showing the vehicle? Super interesting vehicles, but too bad I hardly saw it in this poorly executed video. Good grief.
I had the privilege of sitting in the drivers seat of one the these machines many years ago at the Big E in Springfield Ma. Think it was owned by the Peter Pan bus company near by. This video does no justice vs seeing one in person. Nice seeing them out in the wild and grateful the generous owners still share them to the world.
I remember as it was yesterday a container versión that made a tour in Argentina which had an photvoltaic activated car, a functional pulsereactor very noisy, gyriscope in a suitcase, a rotary platform, microwave pan etc.
that 50-60s design aesthetic looks weird and its not particularly appealing to me, but vehicles like this certainly look like something from another world. for that reason alone i feel fascinated by their presence, i can't stop staring at them. to think cars like these ever drove the streets is amazing and unbelivable at the same time, and these were all hand-drawn, unlike modern cars which are almost completely designed by a computer to make them look as bland as possible.
Are we looking at the same vehicles 50s and 60s were the peak of design for vehicles by far lookup 1959 Cadillac 1965 Chevy corvair 1969 dodge charger or pretty much any car or truck from that era
@@misterwhipple2870 im terrible with words so i don't know how to rephrase that. i was making reference to cars from the 50s to 60s and their spaceship designs. edit: or maybe i wasn't, i don't know anymore :v
@@white_mage It can be easy to confuse them. People do not realize how old these really are; design work on them started in 1933. Some of the 1950s designs were made by the same people from 20 years before. Really, the Futurliner had a great many design flaws, and they could have done a better job. These were used from 1935-1941, and then they were put away during the war. Afterward, they were refurbished with new displays and then sent back on tour for about 10 more years. By that time, interest in such things was fading, and spectacles like this were made obsolete by television. No need to travel anymore. This same period of time saw the decline of the traveling circus, which is now gone forever. With television, and the Internet, now there is no need to leave home.
It's a shame somebody butchered that Futurliner. One of only twelve built, and it gets turned into something worth about a tenth of what an unmodified one can bring. $6 million ? Ha ! It was advertised for months in 2019, with the price starting around $1 million and dropping steadily from there. I'm ecstatic that it's still around, but I sure wish it hadn't been cut up and ruined.
I think the only reason this one got cut up was because of how bad it was rotted. I get what your saying tho. Would’ve been great to see it restored but I wanna say this one was pretty far gone
I get what your saying, but when it comes to certain vehicles and their conditions, a lot of the time they end up needing to be cut up because of how badly they aged. The bus in this video was rusted heavily, and a lot of people don't have the money and time to actually fully repair them.
@@moxxiiscarlett7141I agree completely when we're talking about a one - of - zillions vehicle. But one of twelve ? Even if it spent a few years at the bottom of the ocean, a Futurliner is still worth a considerable amount. That type of rarity attracts serious collectors, with serious money, and they're willing to pay whatever it costs to bring it back to original. A 'Cuda is a great example. Common small block / automatic versions get cut up and modified all the time, but a 1 - of - 11 '71 hemi 'Cuda convertible would be restored, no matter what the cost or condition. There are vehicles as common as sand on a beach, and then there are vehicles that are worth restoring at any cost, and this Futurliner is (was ?) one of them.
@@immike1945Something simply being rare doesn’t make it super valuable or something a lot of people will spend serious money on. Especially with big stuff like this that would be much harder to manage and store compared to a regular vehicle. You end up limiting the market to people into heavy duty trucks and equipment. These were basically abandoned by GM and expected to be scrap when they were done with them. The fact that any survive is plenty good enough.
I don't understand what the fuss is bout. The video clearly told that the inter rig except the cap was rusted away and not savable. Id rather see something done to it like this and bring it back on the road. You know the gentleman could have not acquired the rig and left it. If so the rig could have been completely un savable by the time someone else came along and scrapped. Cheers all.
Bring it to Kindig he can fix it! all buses should be designed like this. It seems like in most bus accidents the driver almost always gets killed . This would no doubt prevent that.
In today's day and age, with the technology and machining/CNC processes we have, I am certain the missing body/chassis components could have been fabricated and this could have been rebuilt to original spec. Might have cost some money but every penny invested into rebuilding these to their original 1939 spec is worth investing when they go for between $1m-4m.
Its a shame this dude didnt contact all the whiners in the comments before this project. He could've sold it to them.Maybe they woulda spent their money restoring it,since they all perceive some unforgivable automotive crime being committed. It looks cool,he digs it. Its his so thats all that matters.
Not this GM "Parade of Progress" Future Liner, but another used to belong to a few friends of mine in Montreal. They expected to sell it for $100k max... Barret Jackson proved them wrong... They laughed their ass back to the bank but it destroyed their long time friendship... Sad.
Great part of the history. Too bad the video was so noicy and whimsical. And the presentation of the different instruments and layouts should have been done while the truck was parked. Less noice.
He has destroyed it i realy hate it when people cut up nice vehicles into not as nice crap they do it with bikes as well I have seen some horrendous creations that have simply ruined a well designed bike and just f@#£&ed it up
Respectfully speaking, of course. That thing is a turd. I can watch him play with the steering, just bouncing it back-and-forth and then the suspension is horrid because every little bump in the road he’s bouncing everywhere.
It would have been nice to see more of the vehicle.
I love that your keeping her running and having fun with it.

I saw one of these completely restored on Bitchin Rides t.v. show, complete with the jet engine inside. Very cool vehicle!
