    This video is the more emotionally driven of PS22's two recent performances with Carrie Underwood. Whereas our first collaboration on the previously posted "Good Girl" is a fun rollercoaster ride, this version of Carrie's hit, "So Small," is a stunning impassioned masterpiece. Our personal favorite moment comes at the conclusion of the second verse, when Kahlil and Kiarah get together for a gorgeous duet on the second verse, and Carrie, obviously lost in the moment, almost forgets to come in on the refrain! Some fantastic bonus footage (both silly and emotional) from the visit is included here as well...
    Many thanks to Carrie for bringing love and joy to PS22, and giving the PS22 Chorus of 2012 an experience we'll all not soon forget.
    UPDATE: This is the video that was used to close out VH1's Behind The Music: Carrie Underwood Special that debuted on September 30, 2012!

    Man, I cried AFTER the song was over when that little girl was talking about how the song meant a lot to her because her parents were going through a lot and she started crying and all of her schoolmates were sooooo supportive. Just amazing kids, amazing teacher and who doesn't love Carrie? :)

    You can tell how much control Carrie has with her voice. When Carrie sings solo, she uses her full power and when the kids sings with her, she drops her power.

      Payton Ashley I think even their music teacher is amazing at how much control she has. And she does so natural and so quick, that is why it isn't noticeable when she does it. Only ones that have been listening her all the time can tell when she does. The people who don't listen to her that often don't catch it.

      ***** With her power, she sometimes doesn't need a microphone. That is how much control, she has. Which her advantage over other singers.

    • @row759
      @row759 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      ***** yes, I know. She was asked by Paula Abdul when she was on American Idol about that. She never had a voice coach. Her mom got her one, once and he said she didn't need one. She just does it without thinking about it.

    I could never watch this enough.
    How Carrie COULD HAVE done the big belt at the end, but doesn't just to blend with the choir makes me love her more.

      That is Carrie to a tee. Carrie was there to let PS22 shine, not herself.

    • @row759
      @row759 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Carrie showed that, she can do both. Bring her voice down way low to let then shine, but also let them hear her at full power. But that is Carrie at her finest.

    I like how she's not looking at the camera, she's focused on the kids and what her going there really means. To support those kids. She is the definition of class, and I am so glad that there are people in this world like her that us kids can look up to. Keep doing what you do best, Carrie. Which is making a difference.

    4:30 to 4:50 shows why this guy is such an excellent teacher who clearly knows a teachable moment when he sees one. Every kid needs to be told by the adults in their lives how brave they are and how proud they are of them, as this teacher made a point to do, giving them recognition when they take the risk to express their pain, or their joy, to the world through art and music. Carrie Underwood was dead on about two things...if only every kid had teachers like this....imagine the possibilities! Second...these kids are gonna be putting a lot people in the music business out of work down the road, if not sooner!

    PS22 is a public school in Staten Island. It is not a magnet school just a regular K-5 elementary school. Many of the students come from trouble neighborhoods, where children are are at risk and/or often fail. Mr. B is the chorus director and he has been able to let the children find calm in music. Each year he posts videos of his 5th grade chorus.Lately recording artists have visited the school and children :)

    This video and especially the segment with the girl telling what this song meant for her and then Mr. B acknowledging that and showing these kids what music can mean to someone ... that should be seen by any administrator that wants to cut on the art programs in their schools. Because this just shows that it is NOT only about having a good time and singing fun tunes. These kids receive life lessons from a passionate teacher, lessons that will stay with them for the rest of their lives.

    My hypothesis is that Mr. B uses the chorus to teach so much more as seen in this video or when Divina left and he told the kids that being good friends is more important than being good singers. So, now I wish I had something like this chorus not only for the famous people being there but much more for all the lessons Mr. B gives without telling the kids they're being taught important things.

Hope/Love/Faith I think its great that Carrie goes to hug this little girl. It doesn't matter how famous she is, she still went to hug this little girl to comfort her. If I ever become famous I will always be humble enough to never forget where I came from.

    What Carrie has, she can't teach, nobody can actually. Carrie has natural power. As Keith Urban said Carrie is still learning how much power she has at her disposal. As she said about "Ghost Story" she actually taught herself to go higher range, she likes that challenge.

    How does he continue to create so much beauty year after year with new kids every year. To have that kind of talent year after year is amazing. The teacher and every kid who has come through this program are so blessed with talent, and in turn, blesses us all.
