It's funny how the things we don't plan for in life often reap the greatest reward -- case and point, this arresting performance of "Jar Of Hearts" with Christina Perri. We pre-arranged two other songs to sing with her, but this one was a last minute add-on to the setlist that we surprised her with. Christina was such a good sport, particularly as the vocal arrangement I prepared for the kids required her to change the chord structure of her piano part in order for the harmonies to work. She spent the time to work it out with us, and what happened next was sheer magic....

I love this so much. It's so scary to watch them try to remove the arts from the schools, when it impacts kids on so many levels. I wish that more celebrity singers would do just this. Congratulations on being awesome PS22!!!

I've been seeing it for a few years. Seriously: emotionally and in the purest musical sense, this is the most beautiful thing I know... - even the great version of "A Thousands Years" with PS22 just can't beat it.🙂
I’ve watched this video 100 times. Until now I never thought of it like this…those kids that have broken families…my heart breaks for them. You just know this song resonated with them so much.
2022 and still watching, would love to see it done today with all the kids grown up with Christina Perri
The sun rays hitting the alto section and then that same side of Christina’s hair is absolutely ethereal.

Very moving and heartfelt performance. The innocence of the kids contrasts vividly with the wordly wise lyrics.

I've seen my first video of this choir this morning and can't stop watching them since then. Those kids are so inspiring! Stuff like this is, what makes me wanna become a music teacher over here in Germany. I would love to bring so much enthusiasm and passion into the children's and the listener's hearts as PS22 and their awesome choir director achieve in mine!
And Christina Perri is obviously awesome as well!!

this is what i love about ps22. y'all take songs that ppl already know & present them in a form that feels timeless.. gives the audience & singers a moment to appreciate the songs for what they are. in such a pure form.
young singers always make me think about life itself, the passage of time.. but this class encourages students to truly experience music.. it's such a breath of fresh air & i wish i knew about mr. b sooner, but i'm happy to find out his corner of the world exists.
seeing the kids behind seasoned performers with such an air of confidence, excitement, or whatever else they could be feeling in these moments... & being present with the song... behind someone like christina someone who has sang her whole life & wrote this song, that was one of the biggest songs of it's time... it's so special. it's iconic, it's beautiful.. it's hard to find the words.

Here is where the artist in trusting to Mr. B’s arrangement and knowing the chorus have the talent and are only willing to please, literally opens up and touches the soul of the thing she made. That was more than a collaboration, it was a thing of beauty, Christina Perri.

I hope they can do a reunion with the kids in this room knowing they are nearly 20’s old now. Bring Cristina back, the kids, and the little piñata who commented on her perfume.
