    I was thinking of shimming between the trucks and the body, but you got it going! Great demonstration!!

      Yeah too much spring pressure, it's still doing well. Thanks for watching-Ed

    I like it! Okay, we might need to refine it, but I think overall it was a smashing success. One can never have enough track cleaning cars. CRC makes a type of electrical conductivity solution, but I don't remember just what the number of it was. I'll try and research it and get back to you on that. Oh, and you might need to add the thickness of the corderoy on top and bottom of the shoe when you set up your spacing before cutting out the plastic bits on the bottom of the car. Just a thought. Thanks. Cheers, Dan

      It has been some what of a continued project, It works like a champ now. I have since the video bought the CRC Electrical contact cleaner that is safe for plastic. I use the car a good bit and it does a good job for the size layout I have.Thanks for watching and thanks for any and all comments and suggestions.....Ed.

    Not bad my friend.. good results..think the spring was a great idea but maybe just a smaller bring next time?

    • @EagleValleyModelRailroad
      @EagleValleyModelRailroad  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's still going strong, I ended up removing the spring all together and added some weight to the foot. Thanks for watching-Ed

    We had cars like this at out club many years ago but the cleaning pad was just the back side of masonite. It has a smooth side and a side that looks like the pad you used. It worked great and there was no cloth to catch the points on the turnouts.

      Iv'e seen a few videos where guys use the masonite, I'll have to give that a try., i'm running out of corduroy cloth. LOL

    great how to yea i think the spring really bound it up. works great

    Most of it was not where the camera was centred... and the camera kept doing an auto focus all the time when something was moved in the area of view.

    It's a great idea..the drag..after using this a bit..do you think it is too heavy or is the wood shoe too thick and instead of gliding over the rails..it is literally dragging a load?.. I could understand the drag more if the weight was on the shoe..but, its in the car..unless that car is so heavy now that is a rolling anchor. it was a great build..especially recessing that spring. Tom

      @EagleValleyModelRailroad  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The weight in the car was to help compress the spring. Once I removed the spring I added some weight to the shoe as well. The car without the shoe weighs in just under 4.5 oz.

      Ralph, it's a good cheap alternative to the expensive cleaning cars. I have to clean the track a little more often but it does a good job. Thanks for watching. -Ed

    Im thinking your block of wood is too thick. I was cringing as I watched you staple the cloth onto the wood. I was thinking it might crack. I would try to add some more weight to those engines or get a cheap Athearn engine. A f7 super power has additional weight and should pull it around just fine. Your on the rite track.

    • @EagleValleyModelRailroad
      @EagleValleyModelRailroad  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The issue was the spring, even though it had very little tension it was to much. What I ended up doing was getting rid of the spring and adding weight to the wooden shoe. I have also since converted my railroad to DCC and I'm running a Bachmann engine which handles the weight of the car with no issues. Ed.

    Great idea, however auto focus needs to be off as it messes with eyesight

      That was a lesson that had to be learned, plus the motor noise was very annoying. Thanks for watching.-Ed

    It looks like the pad might catch on the points of your turnouts and if that happens -- watch out for a mess...

    • @EagleValleyModelRailroad
      @EagleValleyModelRailroad  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just ran it on the layout, across all turnouts multiple times with no issues. It works great without the spring, just put a little extra weight on the foot. Thanks for watching,-Ed

    How well was it cleaning with just the alcohol?

    • @EagleValleyModelRailroad
      @EagleValleyModelRailroad  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It took a few laps and a couple times cleaning the cloth, but the more I ran it I could see a significant difference in performance. I'm still looking for a contact cleaner to try.
