Great first episode of this series! Lewis has a wealth of knowledge and a passion to create awesome rums. We definitely need more people like Lewis and you Steve that have the knowledge and passion and enthusiasm to help as many others in their rum journey. As always, Mahalo! 🍹
Really enjoyed this, Steve. Lewis sounds so passionate about bringing quality rum to the average drinker. I have only been on my journey for about 8 months and am restricted by budget a lot of the time. I think getting the majority of the big brand drinkers to try something different is a big ask if they do not understand or want to know the difference between quality and quantity.
You are talking about British rum for a long while now but it never got me exited as someone not from the UK. Maybe this one funky rum you featured once, but that’s it. But I love what Lewis, Shaun and co are doing. Great video series from you Steve. Now you got me exited! When is it coming to the European market? And I might visit the UK just for that distillery.
Ha. There’s loads of Stories. Many of it is around Additives and even some of the “No Additives” Brands are choosy about what Additives are. Just one example. Take a Sherry Aged Rum. Well if you’ve ever seen a Ex Sherry Barrel there can be 2-3 litres of Sherry left in it. Now there’s nothing wrong with that at all. But surely you have to call 3 litres of Sherry an “Additive”. It’s just simple things like that. Sugar, Caramel, Colour, even Fruit to add “Funk” AFTER distillation. etc etc etc. Just to emphasise I’m not against any of it. I’m not of a Geek Mindset. However, it’s some of those Geek Brands that are actually guilty of it. They like to preach about stuff while not being completely open themselves. My opinion…Rum is fun. Brands Just need to be honest, so we can crack on and enjoy it. If it’s got 40g of Sugar added, tell people, don’t hide it. Cos if you like it, it ain’t gonna stop you buying it.

Thanks, Steve! I look forward to trying these when I go to Black Parrot at your recommendation!
I grew up in a town just up the road from Dropworks, looking forward to a trip home...!
Go visit Lewis & Shaun. You’ll love it there.

I’m trying to Tag Lewis in, but neither TH-cam apps allow it! 🤦♂️😂 I’ll reply to this again on Desktop laters.
I wanna know what the bug rum distillers do that he not a fan of.
What is the funny business?
