      You're welcome! Me and my mother love these songs :D Yes the word Durarara comes from Dullahan which is a mythical being from the irish folklore. Celty from Durarara is actually a Dullahan :)

      In the movie Song of the Sea they used the Indonesian gamelan (music instrument also heard in Life of Pi) for much of the songs. I'm Indonesian and I was wondering how the Irish and Indonesian cultures could be connected and why they used the oriental instruments from Indonesia. Well, I guess because they share both magical landscapes and awesome folklore. Of course magic can be found everywhere in the world, but Celtic and Indonesian/Oriental folklore and music will always be the most magical for me. :)

    • @moniquebell8191
      @moniquebell8191 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@seneca983 yes, dúlamán is Irish for "channelled wrack," a type of edible seaweed. I'd recommend looking up a lyric translation video, the lyrics are actually super awesome and it's a story about a rich father's daughter who wants to run away with a poor man, but the father refuses to let her go, however all the characters are seaweed. The main chorus is "Seaweed from the yellow cliff, Irish seaweed, Seaweed from the sea, the best in all of Ireland."

      @@seneca983 basically. Seaweed has two purposes: eating, or dying clothes. The suitor collects seaweed to eat, the father collects seaweed to dye clothing (which is about as "white collar" as you get for ancient jobs)

      Since this is a fantasy setting, it is entirely possible that the head gear he is wearing is more than sufficient to protect his head. It could have magic in place to equal or exceed the protection of an ordinary helmet while allowing for maximum visibility. Or failing that, you could just remember that hero's don't wear helmets.

      I used Dulaman as a gamertag once a long time ago. (does 2 years ago count as a long time?) I didn't know its literal translation was Seaweed until after the fact. sure as Hell wasn't to going to explain THAT to everyone in the game. I would've lost my savage/hardcore factor if I had. (not that I rly had much of a hardcore factor to begin with XD) I certainly didn't know it also meant a noble, decapitated, undead knight. (if I ever use that gamertag again and someone asks me "what does Dulaman mean?" I can now ACTUALLY sound hardcore and say "its a decapitated, undead knight. ya got a problem with that?")

    Rachaimid 'un an Iúr We'll go to Newry
    Leis an dúlamán gaelach With the Irish seaweed
    Ceannóimid bróga daora I would buy expensive shoes
    Ar an dúlamán gaelach Said the Irish seaweed
    Bróga breaca dubha The Irish seaweed has
    Ar an dúlamán gaelach Beautiful black shoes
    Tá bearéad agus triús The Irish seaweed has
    Ar an dúlamán gaelach A beret and trousers
    Ó chuir mé scéala chuici I spent time telling her the story
    Go gceannóinn cíor dí That I would buy a comb for her
    'Sé an scéal a chuir sí chugam The story she told back to me
    Go raibh a ceann cíortha That she is well-groomed
    Caidé thug tú 'na tíre? "What did you bring from the land?"
    Arsa an dúlamán gaelach Says the Irish seaweed
    Ag súirí le do níon "Courting with your daughter"
    Arsa an dúlamán maorach Says the stately seaweed
    Chan fhaigheann tú mo 'níon "You're not taking my daughter"
    Arsa an dúlamán gaelach Says the Irish seaweed
    Bheul, fuadóidh mé liom í "Well, I'd take her with me"
    Arsa an dúlamán maorach Says the stately seaweed
    Dúlamán na binne buí Seaweed of the yellow cliff

      story of a young man (the Stately seaweed) trying to court the daughter of a rich irishman (the Irish seaweed) but he is either poor or of English blood (depending upon your interpretation of the translation and metaphor) so the father won't let him nomatter how in love the two are, in the end the young boy and the girl run away to get married anyway.

      Personally, as an Irish person myself, I don't like speaking Irish. That said, I have nothing against the language itself, and agree that it sounds pretty damn good. Just don't ask me to say anything in it.
      Also, as regards Irish weather, it actually is pretty mild. The problem is that we're just warm enough that we don't get snow except in the depths of winter at best, and just cold enough that we can only be called warm in the summer sun.

    This has an African feel to it in the beginning. I've been listening to Irish music all my life, so I can recognize when its aesthetics are different than the traditional sort. This is a very old song that's been modernized. It still sounds remarkably well-arranged and performed, however.

    With the exception of being much faster, this arrangement is almost identical to the performance that Lisa Lambe gave with Celtic Woman. Does anyone know of a connection between the two groups?

    • @orphiic-6553
      @orphiic-6553 9 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Rick Kernell It is, in fact, the same arrangement just sped up. Nightcore is not a band, it is considered one of the 'fake internet genres' of music. Nightcore is simply music pitched and sped up, so you correct in thinking it was Celtic Woman. :)

      @rickkernell349 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Orphiic - Thank you. How do they get away with it?

    • @orphiic-6553
      @orphiic-6553 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Rick Kernell Eh, since way over one hundred people do it, people can't remove every video of it. Anyway, since it's pitched TH-cam generally doesn't find out about it.

    • @rickkernell349
      @rickkernell349 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Orphiic - I wonder why? Isn't the original enough?

    • @orphiic-6553
      @orphiic-6553 9 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      +Rick Kernell Similar to how people like dubstep, no one really knows why they like nightcore. It's honestly not that different than the original. Nightcore also has better related video suggestions that the original does, so many people use nightcore to find new music and listen to it raw after finding it through nightcore. c:

      Nightcore isn't an artist (originally they were but now Nightcore refers to the genre itself not the artist). It's a remixing style that speeds up songs and alters the pitch to varying degrees. You can find a Nightcore of fucking everything at this point from Justin Bieber to Korn to J-pop to... you get the idea.
