Pawan Ramnarain: If you use the BM ATEM switcher, it has no analogue inputs of any sort, neither video or audio, and the computer controlling it, does just that: controlling it. But, yes, if you take the HDMI output of the ATEM into the computer, you could technically mix that with analogue audio, but I guess you will have a big out of sync problem unless you put the audio through a delay box. I haven't tried this, I have just noticed there is a slight delay between what I hear live and what I hear through my ATEM. Therefore I recommend putting the audio into one of the cameras instead to have the audio sync with the video and everything goes through the ATEM. If you plan to use the USB output for streaming, you have no choice but inserting the audio into the ATEM in one or another way. I use the setup mentioned in this video. ATEMs bundled remote mixing software (both video and audio). All mixing is done on the ATEM itself, not on the computer. Streaming software: MXLight. I don't use Adobe FMLE. I could, of course, but then I need a really fast laptop to do the realtime encoding to H.264. I guess a modern Macbook Pro would do the job with no problem, but probably not a Macbook Air (???) It is absolutely possible to stream and record on the same computer. BUT: If you want to record in a higher quality than the stream, I understand that FLME can't do this, but I'm not sure. FLME can output several stream qualities, but I don't know if you can direct one of them only for recording. You can't record with another software while using FLME. FLME will take over the incoming signal totally. Same goes with the recording facility in the ATEM software. It will not let FLME use the signal if ATEM is recording. You need a second computer to do this split quality thing. And to save money (by not buying an ultra fast laptop) I use the USB-signal from the ATEM through MXLight.
I see that the ATEM 1 switcher or television studio is available with audio control. You recommend these units? Trying to to make a decision of which one to buy or they about the same. One is a little cheaper. Also, when I connect to my computer I have a external thunderbolt hard drive that I use on my mac....can I record to that hard drive? I am sure but I want your opinion.
I've watched several other videos that have outright said that the only way to live stream from the ATEM is to take it into a blackmagic HDMI to thunderbolt / usb converter. I had no idea you could stream straight from the USB output on the ATEM. This is a great demonstration, I will be using this to help set up my university TV station. Thanks very much!
Thank you very much for a very good and useful tutorial which covers pretty much the same topics to the situation that we are on. What we need is to record the sermon and power point presentation. And after that we will upload the video to our TH-cam channel. At the moment we are using FCPX to edit the video and put the slide images to the desired position. Which consumes a lot of time... To do that job, we are thinking of purchasing Blackmagic ATEM Television Studio to do the switching between video camera and powerpoints and probably use Hyperdeck Shuttle to record the program from the switcher output. We are also in the situation where we need to use splitter at the VGA output of the computer, so we will need VGA-HDMI scaler box. Could you tell me what brand and type of VGA-HDMI scaler box you are using that converts and scales analogue VGA to HDMI? Since the distance between the switcher and the computer is less than 5 m, can I plug the output of the scaler box straight to the switcher using HDMI cable? We are hiring university lecture theatre for our church, so we need to setup and pack up our A/V stuffs every week. Do you have any suggestions or simpler system configurations for our need? You can do this with a mac too hooking up the atem tvs to a capturecard and in addition to the atem tvs switcher also use all the features you have in CamTwist which is a software cam swithcer. Camtwist will let you playback media files too. The streaming app you can use is Flash Media Live Encoder

I also do live broadcasts using a custom built laptop with 3 HDMI input for video recording, but now am thinking of using a macbook pro retina to do the job because of the HDMI's limiting factors. SDI is a better option, but i'll need all the equipments as shown in the video. I saw some people solved the audio feed problem by using the aux 3.5mm standard cable from mixer to audio input jack in the laptop and then using the video mixing software to mix audio with video. Do you think its a good idea? Also what video mixing and streaming softwares do you use. Adobe has flash media live encoder for Mac. Cant we stream directly on the same laptop while recording with another software?
or u can just run hdmi out of the cameras thru a black magic box out to ur mac with thunderbolt and use a switcher software to switch while streaming and recording a high quality signal at the same time....there is always something new haha

This is what BM says about supported standards: www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/atemtelevisionstudio/techspecs/ Are you sure you have set ALL the cameras to exactly the same standard? And the switcher as well? As I say in one of the videos (or two), the HDMI may not output the same standard as you set for recording. Some cameras output the same standard regardless of the recording standard. Some cameras have two separate menu items for recording and output formats. This could be the case for you...?

kduque068 No. These cameras will not connect directly with SDI. The Sony camera is a DV camera and have only analogue and FireWire (digital compressed) output. I don't know about the Nikon, but I guess is has only analogue. You need analogue to SDI converter boxes. But if you use an analogue video switcher, you can connect them via coax cables (not SDI signal, but analogue). This signal doesn't carry audio though.

ATEM TV Studio usb port is only for capture ? i cant running any streaming software to get the driver , just can ATEM software capture h.264 only...
