I think MTA gave Robert Moses the middle finger with this film; he was responsible for starving the NYC Subway system w/ his emphasis on tunnels, bridges and highway projects.
Wow, as a kid I remember having to go to the information booth for the LIRR to find out what track your train was on... It stood in the middle and was circular !
great educational video, really shows how much we have come in just a few decades and i hope the MTA keeps showing that the transit system can be better improved.
Robert Moses...the man who thought subways were bad and introducing MORE cars into one of the worlds biggest cities that happened to be built on islands...brilliant idea...no
..and who was willing to drive major highways through neighborhoods overwhelmingly populated by people of color in order to do it - a pattern which was then repeated in cities across the country. It decimated communities and tore apart families.
What a hideous reminder that THESE dinosaur cars ( www.nycsubway.org/perl/show?115407 ) were all the Staten Island Rapid Transit (SIRT) had until they were finally replaced by R44s in 1973 - which by the way, are still running out there and will be now until 2021.
I’m sorry but in the last years of the b&o on Staten Island you guys killed the system with bus’s so they had less money to maintain lines THAT IS WHY THE SIRT INSINT RAPID WHEN YA GOT IT
We complain alot about current MTA problems, but it's nothing compared to a operator in the 70s trying to close the door with his hands.
4:18 damn... this film holds nothing back lol

Right can't believe all these politicians would use the MTA as their own personal piggy bank
Thanks really in joyed this footage

And... then it went downhill throughout the 70's and 80's. It wasn't until the late 80's that changes occurred.

Still waiting for the tunnels connecting the Staten Island railway to the 4th Avenue subway !
@@sanitman1488 I wish ST George to Bay Ridge
Doesn't the MTA also regulate or manage NYC's taxicab services?
No. That would fall under the city's Taxi & Limousine Commission (TLC) department.
Wow people didn’t know what the hell was MTA. Well they were right till this day. Lousy and corrupt as hell
