Hello Martin. Absolutely loving this new series. So many great tips, products, and techniques. The IKEA tables are such a great idea. The roadbed kit is very interesting. As well as the pillars. I’m looking forward to part 3. Thanks. See ya next time.
Have been watching your videos for a year and keep thinking of building a layout. Your video has been the inspiration I needed to get off my backside and do something. I model N gauge and your suggestions are great for that scale!

Great video. I work for IKEA in Cardiff and my department is the one selling those table tops. I've often wondered, when it's quiet, how feasible the Linnmon tops would be for baseboards. I just wish we sold a slightly sturdier leg that was taller then the Adils as I think they are a little on the low side. Looking forward to the next episode!
Too bad we are in a lockdown here. Those Ikea tables are a good idea. I was planning to use 2 frames of a Gallant desk. But this looks easier. Planning to build the MM 2006/6 compact anlage.
How's she goin'? You make this look so simple!!! This is a great series and I am enjoying it very much. I wish I could help out financially... Take care!!!
Hola Martin.
This is a very interesting concept how to create a railroad display. So I am looking forward to watching the next episode. Unfortunately NOCH Company only offers small radii 1 and 2 for the EASY TRACK system. Hopefully there will be larger radii in the future, too.
Looks great ! One thing though, you could save some money if you cut pieces of insulationfoam, as you know the height for the pillars, and used them instead of the plastic ones. That way you also could make som more and put them between those you already have used. Would probably make a more supporting railbed. Wow and in n scale that layout would need only a small fraction of that space. Thanks for a nice video. Looking forward to the next one. Stay safe !
Great series Martin. I was just wondering how stable the Linnmon tables will be in the long run. I had a setup of 3 of the 150x75 Linnmon tables, which I used as a large table for Wargaming. Over time they all sagged towards the middle. It didn’t matter too much for wargames but I imagine it could be a problem for a model railway layout. My tables weren’t bolted together and didn’t have any fixed superstructure on them, which I expect will make your setup much more rigid. I do like the idea of using the IKEA tables though as constructing baseboards is off putting for some. Looking forward to the rest of the series.
A great question Alan, I am planning a layout and was intending to make lightweight torsion box type base board(s) using 6mm ply but braced and skinned top and bottom. I did wonder if just an Ikea table would work, so look forward to Martins answer..;-)
Hi Martin, Last weekend I came across your channel here on TH-cam, you have so many great tips, products that you use and techniques, thank you for that. I enjoyed the series and downloaded the track plan with the shadow stations from your site. I would like to start building that track as a good base with variation. Right now I have an oval with some switches to have some sort of side tracks to park the material, but it remains a very simple track with no variation variation in it. So I would like to start the build of Martins town as a base and maybe expand later. Do you have a description with the measurements of the sub-roadbed you can share? I'm looking forward to start building in the next couple of weeks during the winter period, I would like to use the right sub-roadbed with the right measurements so it will fit the trackplan you've created. Greetings from The Netherlands
As always very informative and enjoyable. Smart way to lash the tables together. One question, and maybe I just missed it, but are you providing information on how long each segment takes time wise? I’m curious as to whether today’s video, excluding the trip to IKEA, took a few hours or a few days. As I’ve never done anything like this I’m very curious. Thanks! And stay safe.
I never thought about Using Ikea Tabletops as a Model railway base... If and when I get a space/time to build a layout I might steal this idea, My wife has a desk that we made using a Linmon, Two Aldis and an Alex for drawers on one side, but then she decided to replace the Aldis with another Alex so she has more storage space... Now we have 2 Aldis kicking arround with no use... maybe after spring cleaning out our garage I should buy another Linmon and 2 more Aldis :P

How is this structure noise wise? The solid tabletops could be quite resonant? Perhaps the latex gunk dampens the sound transmission. Or Martin has more sound deadening tricks up his sleeve.
Dear Martin I have been following you for years, that will be wonderful again, do you also have a construction drawing and a shopping list, what to buy and maybe where? Thank you greetings from Rob
I have being playing around with Anyrail a little now. loading your trackplan from your website. I am wondering: slopes 5 - 7 percent ! is that realistic (not in the way of model realism of course) but will it work on the model layout? How long trains are you acounting with? Anywau it is a great idea for a layout on a small space. Thanks for the videos!
I think that the products that are Wooden, like furniture, most often are made in poland and the baltstates. Lower wages there too and skilled workers. But good quality. But most modelrailroad items are made in china and germany !
You are using IKEA tables 4 pieces of 100cm x 60cm, in my opinion this isn't sufficient, can you confirm this is enough. End of this month I'll buy Martinstadt from Noch as well, but am confused about the table sizes.
I noted that here are two small errors in the parts list for Märklin. 1. The Extension Set C2 is Item No 24902, not 22902. 2. The straight track 24172 is 17,17cm long, not 18,83cm. No big thing, but I thought I could point it out, just to avoid any misunderstanding...

Hello Martin I read on the website that the Martinstown Noch package is iut of stock. Do you know when it will become available again? I would like to start building in a few months...
I haven’t read all of the comments so apologies if I am repeating one or more other people. I was on the IKEA website and the one thing I discovered is that the table and legs that you’re using are only about 30 inches (70+ cm) tall. Isn’t that way too low for a model rail road?? I thought the rule of thumb was a deck height somewhere between 48 and 50 plus (120+ cm) inches??
Is it just me, or does the plywood look very thin? Also, how stable were the tables after joining together? Seeing that the legs have no crossbracing, any bump against the layout would result in lateral movement IMHO.
Wait what? You did a CAD drawing of the sub roadbed and had it manufactured and shipped to you from where exactly? That doesn’t sound like a simple task. Does everyone have such a service in their area?
I think he used CAD to design the template and then he cut them himself. If not, you can send the CAD file to a company that will cut it for you and deliver them to your house. At least here in Sweden.

Add extra legs in the middle of each table and it should prevent at least some sagging. Buy "Lerberg" or "Oddvald" for a more even distribution.
