  • What's happening, folks! I'm back with another Bee Gees reaction from their 1969 album Odessa, and this time we listen to the sonically rich "Melody Fair," a song with cool instrumental arrangement and lyrics I enjoyed trying to track, though I'm curious to hear what others have to say about them. So join me as we return to the Brothers Gibb. Cheers!
Also I run a Patreon featuring extra content of different types, so anyone interested in supporting what we do here on TH-cam and getting early-access to video-watchalongs and reactions blocked on TH-cam, as well as behind-the-scenes videos, video-reactions, and blooper-reels from my videos, can go here: / shnootz

Little brother Andy's first band was named Melody Fayre after this song. It was their mother's idea.

The young girl in the title role (Melody) was 12 years old at the time of shooting (1971) she was the cutest girl ever & generations of us 12 yo kids at the time, ended up with a huge crush on her lol. Her name was Tracy Hyde, & is now a beautiful lady…. Never understood the lyric ‘you can be beautiful too’ lol

I always took this song as a message to girls/young women to take the pressue off and not feel they have to live up to unrealistic expectation (from advertising, etc.), but maybe I'm reading too much into it, idk.

Just FYI: The next track on this album features Maurice on lead vocals.

If I am remembering correctly, the Melody soundtrack featured all Bee Gees songs except for one. “Melody” was custom written to be the title song for the movie, with tidbits from the script being mentioned. The soundtrack includes a variety of Bee Gees songs, including a song written while in Australia when Barry was about 16 called IN THE MORNING or MORNING OF MY LIFE, which has been covered by many artists, including Andy. You should definitely make a note to react to it either and a stand alone between albums, or when you react to their Australia material on the double album Inception Nostalgia. Looking forward to SUDDENLY.

This song was also used in the english movie Melody with other Bee Gees songs, including one of my favorites "in The Morning", a lyrically masterpeice.
The movie and songs were a big hit in asia, especially Japan.
I always had a feeling that this songs lyrics were a bit chauvinistic against women but that is maybe justhow the lyrics hit you. Great song overall.

Its a cute little coming of age movie. I agree with you on "Morning of My Life", if I was forced to pick a favorite Bee Gees song (which is impossible), it would be "Morning of My Life". I don't think it was ever released on a studio album, only this soundtrack and a compilation (I beleive). MATT, "Moring of My Life" is a must that you will have to react to, even if it is a one off, non-album reaction - please!

@@willow_wise Yes, the song has many names, written as "Morning Of My Life" with the extra title "In The Morning".
They also wrote a song called "Sun In My Morning" which is a different song.

@@eduardooscar309 "I Saw A New Morning" is a great Bee Gee song, from Life in A Tin Can - very underrated album, imo. I've lately been very into that entire album and I think it has some of the poetic songs they've written. I think of it as a folky album, but my brother disagrees and says it fits more into country or Americana. I'm not good with genres, all I know is I like it.

Beatlesque. I always thought the Beatles sang this.

Barry said this song "was probably influenced by 'Eleanor Rigby.' I was wanting to make the same kind of statement."

I've heard a very early track of theirs called 'Coalman',written by Barry, that sounds almost like a lost 60s Beatles song.
