- I've driven all sorts of M cars over the last 17 years and most of the time for me, they're a lot of work to drive. High strung engines, jerky transmissions, harsh rides - So what happens when you take a perfect sized SUV and M it up, you get the all new BMW X3M Competition with over 500 hp!

Damn as a Mercedes fan, I can't lie that the newer BMW SUV's definitely look a lot better than Mercedes SUV's. They just don't look proportionate at all while this X3M is almost the perfect size with a 7 series level interior. Really considering buying this in a few years with depreciation and extended warranty.

Telling you, there's something special about the X3s... Especially this M Comp
My black X3M40i Ultimate is great! Black makes it look aggressive. I love the looks of the X3M too but every single review says the ride is too harsh. Super happy with the X3M40i.

Congrats on your vehicle. Most of your feedback is on point. I had a five-hour drive home when I picked mine up...seats and adaptive sus are a bit rough. Just wait until your “break-in” period is over...and it def can drift, but it snaps back (check out the 2020 X6M vids to see the xdrive drift). X5M and X6M def got the better options & features...as expected.

Tom Hegedosh the GLC 63 has a terrible tyre skipping issue... horrendous noise... such Mercedes call a characteristic...I’ve found this video after handing the GLC63 back and being recommended this as next best....
This car is one of the sexiest suv in the market right now and it is actually not that expensive.for a bmw at least but i am happy with my land cruiser 200

Nice car but I hate that manufacturers have gone to three spoke steering wheels. I like to rest my hand at the 6 o'clock position on long drives.
After test drive the AMG, can’t believe that one is more comfortable than this X3C, daily drive that one is a really pain in the axx, I believe this one is better for daily commuting.
Why did it take BMW so many years to put out a competitor to GLC 63S?
There’s really nothing to complain about with the M4 shifting. It can be adjusted so it’s in Sport+ right at startup.
He already said it was adjustable.
You didn’t read my comment carefully. I said the settings can be changed to be what you want automatically at startup so you don’t have to adjust them every time you drive. He was complaining about having to change them every time. That’s why I said there is nothing to complain about.
Have one and feel very special driving it. Plenty of power, p zero are like glue. Drove 911 4s and turbo s, not worth 3 times the price at all, this car does it all.

I own one and it is the best :)
The X3M Comp engine actually produces way over the quoted figure (like all M Cars and AMG etc), which is really cool. They dyno around 490hp at the wheels so it should be around 570 crank horsepower.
Hard to pick between this M beast and a GLE AMG.

The problem with this engine is that the connecting rods are not forged and they come from the f90 M5 and they are not all that strong... so to me the isn’t forged connecting rods are a weak point in an engine...

Why don’t the doors automatically unlock when you get close and lock as you walk away?
I guess this isn’t built on the newer architecture pole the new X5 which as the enhanced comfort access. I really do like that feature.
This is a ‘Competition’ model for a reason. This vehicle is going to have a stiffer suspension.

It’s an M car get the non M version with M sport package if you want that.

M40i and x3m have very different turbos
X3m has 2 turbos, cylinder 1,2,3 have 1 and 4,5,6 have anothet 1
The m40i has 1 turbo for all cylinders but 2 fans

It is rather odd. I just the configurator and it's not even listed as an optional extra. I guess rear passengers are an afterthought in an X3/4M.

Even with a full “M”, you need to have a luxury ride setting first and foremost in a SUV. Beyond that you can stiffen up the suspension for playing around but these are a SUV and not a track car.
There is such a thing as a stupid question.
My X3 M40i suspension is uncomfortably stiff and on concrete roads with undulations between each segment of concrete it bounces down the road. I can't imagine how stiff the X3M suspension is! There is no effect on the suspension changing from eco to comfort or sport mode on the M40i.

LOL, strictly a track car. It's an SUV, it's not a track car at all, but as with any car can be driven on a track.
Good looking small CUV that is probably much better in normal non M trim with straight six. You can get A TrackHawk which is a size bigger, sounds tons better, is tons faster, and can be repaired everywhere, this is just overpriced and not worth it.

Drove both numerous times - X3 M is a vastly better package than MacanTurbo, which feels downright old in comparison with a bimmer. Also, good luck finding Macan Turbo for $62K - for me the X3 was a no-brainer)
15:00 The best M vehicle you have ever driven? That's a strange statement that no other car enthusiast whos driven other M cars would agree with. The ride is ridiculously firm - it absolutely doesn't match the purpose of the vehicle. Which is, practical, family focused performance. No family wants a ride that firm in 'comfort' setting. Its flawed because of this. There is also a serious lack of torque low down int he rev range in higher gears, two pretty big faults.

The ride is terrible
