That's OK and all but it's so weird for me to think that there's people out there that don't remember their favorite groups' songs, when I could easily name hundreds or dozenzs of songs out of at least a hundred of them I love, it's not a negative thing of course, but it's hard for me to grasp this.
That thumbnail made me laugh out loud hahaha. Totally agree with everything in this video, if you like the way something looks then just wear it! Also I asked Taylor and she does find it funny.
As someone who played drums in multiple bands in high school and now produces music, I think people can do what they want. No one should care. Genuine vintage band tees are a good example of this. Someone might like the way it aged or the fit of it. I wear a lot of Harley Davison tees because I love the graphics and often times the boxy fits they have. My favorite shirt is a Harley shirt because it has my last name on it. However, I haven’t even been on a bike since I was a kid lol.
I agree. I'm a musician and an audiophile, and I think the gatekeeping is obnoxious & embarrassing lol. It's just a shirt. Is it a little awkward when you talk to someone and they have no idea about the band they band they're wearing? Sure, but who cares? It's just clothes man. It's almost as silly as people getting mad when the kids learn about an older artist from tik tok. I'm sure if you ask members of these bands they probably feel more fortunate to even have iconic merch than annoyed that some people wearing it don't know their music.
@@t_ylr Yeah, it's just weird and always makes me realize that those type of people just haven't found a hobby or something lol. Like worry about something important at least. It's a waste of energy.
Great points on how people wear band shirts for lots of valid reasons, they remind me of an experience I had recently. I saw a girl in one of my college classes wearing a Talk Talk shirt with the "Colour of Spring" cover design. That's not a typical band shirt for a young person to wear so I was very curious if she listened to them and asked. She said no, but that her dad was a fan and got her the shirt. I think a family connection like that is another cool reason to wear a band shirt, and it was a good design too. I did recommend that she check out Talk Talk, but in a non-gatekeeping way!
I am 54 and still wear band t-shirts. There are times when I question whether I should give it up but I really love the design of them and, like you, The music I love defines a lot of who I am. Besides the fact I look dead sexy in them.
You've come a long way, mate. I haven't checked in in a while. I'm actually not into fashion at all. But look at you! I remember your early days when you were first getting over your 'problem'. Nice job, buddy. Good going!
100% agree with all of your points. Wear what you want. Plus, band merch rules (especially if you’re into metal)! I’ve owned and worn band shirts since I was in junior high and I’m in the 30s now and don’t plan to stop. It’s part of who I am and what I’m into, so why not express it? There’s also a bit of a thrill knowing I might run into someone who’s also a fan.
If I see someone wearing a band shirt for my favorite bands, then they’ve almost certainly seen them live. Yay being a small indie fan. But, realistically, everyone are free to wear what they want. I have been duped with sports merch though and trying to talk shop with people who, quite frankly, weren’t fans of said team. Awkward
The sports thing is something I’ve been thinking about. Living in Boston, I’ve been thinking man it’d be nice to have some to support my local teams and I do follow from time to time, but I’m not a diehard. Might as well go for it, it’s such a big piece of our culture it’d be silly to gatekeep.
When I was in school and I saw somebody wearing Vans Old Skool I knew for a fact that they were a skater. I knew we could immediately talk about it and maybe go and share the hobby together. I understand there is no reason to be mad that everybody is wearing the shoes now but at the same time fashion is also a statement about who you are as a person. It is a great way to express yourself. Vans Old Skool have lost their identity. But the good thing about it is that so many people are wearing great looking shoes now.
I personally think it's ok to wear band merchandise (like shirts, pants, jewelry etc.) even when you are not a fan under one condition. Know that you are wearing a band shirt. If you like the design and stuff google the name written on the shirt just so you know if it is a band. No knowing songs or albums needed. If it's a type of music you like then give them a listen. Thats it.
The "what are these metallic shirts I see" clip was hilarious. About 10 years who I had a vintage looking Pink Floyd t which I loved, bought from Barney's in New York. I like the graphic, another good simple graphic is the Joy Division unknown pleasures. They're not my fave band ever, but I'd maybe rock that one.
There is one band shirt I own that I barely listen to (the sounds of animals fighting) but I love the design and it was a gift. The one I wear the least is my death grips shirt. I preserve it because it's special to me
everybody can wear what they want, gatekeeping is a sign of Lacking empathy.. with that beeing said, i personally would not wear band merch at all even im a musician myself.. i grew up with Punkrock and Metal.. the way you speak about this topic Shows how mature you actually are, i totally agree with your opinion..
Obviously I agree, let people wear what they want. Personally I don’t own any band merch, but I do think they can look cool in much the same way any graphic tshirt can. It is a bit funny for someone to wear a logo as iconic as, say, Nirvana’s, and have no idea who they are, but maybe someone will come up to them on the street and introduce them to their songs 😁
Exactly, that's all it really is, just silly in a lighthearted way when the girl called it ''the metalic print'' (Maybe satire, idk) etc. It also does hurt a bit to see when they don't double down, and instead pretend they ARE huge fans, but ehh, that's just an insecurity likely caused by these gatekeepers, no need to kick when someone is down. I used to listen to a lot of Wu Tang and grew up mainly on System of a Down (Don't worry, I'm okay), I don't usually listen to them anymore, but there's also that nostalgic value and the respect I have for them that goes into potentially picking up a shirt, even aside from just liking the design. I'd probably buy a toxicity album all-over print even if it was just the design though, for example. Then there's the wonderful world of bootleg, maybe the Nirvana smiley with yellow Wu Tang logo's for eyes? Definitely something most would only wear ironically, but I never took it so seriously to begin with anyway.
I've been on both sides of it. I've approached people I didn't know wearing merch for band I like to chat to them about it and gotten blank stares, but I also had a Minisry of Sound record bag when I was at art school that I picked up used because it was the right shape to fit my big sketchbook in it. One time someone came over to chat to me about Ministry of Sound I was like 'I dunno, I just use it because I can fot my big sketchbook in it'.
I love wearing shirts of my favorite bands. At the same time I have poor memory to name at least 5 songs on a whim. But once I hear their music, I can sing their songs in perfect lyrics.
I find that the answer is somewhere in the middle. And here is the line that I feel is the right answer. How much is that artist associated with a specific community and not just general pop culture. And there are some exceptions to this rule of course. But with underground genres, band tees have been a signal for the culture to show people who else is in that scene to help find likeminded people. Granted most band shirts that the more “I’m wearing this for fashion” crowd wear are more basic and this doesn’t usually apply to most people. But it feels weird to be wearing a shirt of an artists that is associated with a specific community and it just feels like a weird form of minor cultural appropriation. Like I take much less offense from people wearing a Ramones shirt than I do a Bad Brains shirt. Both are legendary punk bands, but one feels a lot more associated with the culture itself rather than just regular music culture.
To be fair, a lot of merch has become a way to show that you share a common interest with others. Wisecrack did a great video on this. I don't think people have to know specific songs, but having an interest in that band seems important. But if people are just wearing Metallica and Nirvana etc., They can keep those and I'll stick with my sub-genres. They're not on ASOS.
IMO, everybody can wear what they want but if there is a deeper meaning behind the clothing items and the fit will reflect your personality better, therefor will look better
Back around 08-11 I wore hella band tees, a lot I had no clue what they were. I had a neighbor that would get all the defective tees that Hot Topic didn’t sell, and sell them during garage sale szn for $1 each. I just bought whichever had the cleanest graphics, sometimes I’d listen to the artist if someone came up to me and recommended a couple tracks. So yeah just wear the band tee if you mess with the design, no shame in doing it lol.
This year I came back to metal and late 90s and early 00s rock (pretty much my childhood years), I’ve been looking everywhere for a Metallica t-shirt, I think everyone can wear what they want but most of the people have no idea who that artist/band is
Interesting topic. I personally don’t wear band shirts full stop whether I like the band or not. Not entirely certain why to be fair. Think the thought of having to justify that I know/like the band would annoy me (even if it was an opportunity to meet a like minded person). However I wear football shirts for teams I don’t support, wear palace/supreme etc and don’t skate, wear north face and am not into hiking/outdoorsy stuff at all, wear new balance running trainers and don’t run in them, wear a dive watch that has never went deeper than one metre… The list goes on. Just wear what you like and feel comfortable in and let others do the same!
I've been a fan of metal music since I was 10 years old. The most recent awkward moment I had was when I had a classmate who wore a Nirvana shirt to school in 2019. Nirvana isn't exactly metal music, but there isn't a vibrant and thriving scene for more abrasive iterations of rock and metal as they do in, say, Japan, USA, and Germany. Needless to say, I was amused that there was another person wearing band merch and was looking forward to talk about it, so I sat beside the dude and said, "Nice shirt, man. That album (the album "Nevermind" was depicted on his shirt) is pretty cool.". The guy replied, "I don't know, I just like the merch.". It felt extremely awkward after that that we just ended up sitting quietly for the rest of the class. I'm thankful the designs of the band shirts I have are great, so they're always easy to pair with my jeans and vest that I sew patches of bands I like on.
@@wllulu 1 Iron Maiden shirt, 1 Immortal shirt, 1 Death Angel shirt, 1 Crossfaith shirt, 1 Judas Priest shirt, 1 Nirvana shirt, 2 Crystal Lake shirts, 2 Linkin Park shirts, 1 KoRn shirt, 2 Slipknot shirts, 4 Ramones shirts, and 2 metal festival event shirts. Used to have Beatles, Metallica, Death, and Suicide Silence shirts. Repurposed a Black Sabbath shirt and made it the back patch of my metal vest.
I wear merch from time to time, but for me it's more like a collector thing and a way to directly support a favourite middle-scene acts trough buying their merch - shirts or vinyls (most of the time it's both - a vinyl and a corresponding shirt). I'm not always a diehard fan of an artist, sometimes it's just a matter of respect for their impact on the scene, or particular album that I love. I guess because I'm a niche musician myself, I believe that supporting a non-mainstream musicians is a right thing to do for me) I don't have an interest in any particular trends mb at some point those band ts were somewhat cool, but I'd rather wear a plain Jane white t, than go with a merch of a band or artist I don't like, because it's more like a cultural thing and not just about fashion. But if you wear a band t-shirt because you like the print, I genuinely don't care. I've seen some ACDC and Metallica shirts in Bershka another day, and I don't know if this is an official merch. I wouldn't wear anything which isn't an official band merch, but it's just me. You can wear whatever you want) EDIT: Wrote this comment early in the video, so yeah, I completely agree with you. Also, Aphex Twin is dope. Love the British IDM scene, specially coming from Warp Records.
I kinda love to wear serious trousers and shoes with a death metal/deathcore (illegible logo but cool) band shirt, and yes, i need to at least know 2 albums of the band
I used to have a GF which had a GnR shirt and I was sometimes joking by telling her to name 5 songs. I found it a bit annoying that after some instances of this joke she didn't check out some songs, but the shirt made for a good piece of style. The point you make of wearing for instance sports stuff is a good one. I have some NFL, basketball caps without knowing much about the sport, but I least I checked out some facts about the teams.
Im not big on wearing music merch clothing, in part because it can be associated with a poser trend but i also don't like being judged by strangers as worthy. You get that alot in Hip Hop cliques, not just Metal. I recall in the 80s when Hip Hop started to get popular along with casual sportswear (breakers, scouse casuals, etc), alot of kids wearing Def Jam, Public Enemy, NWA, Run DMC shirts. The big names at the time but if you talked to them about Hip Hop often they didn't know much about it.
I think I grew out of band merch, but at the time it was a thrill to spot someone wearing a tee of a current fave band. Nowadays I'm not so fussed about guitar bands, but I like the idea of artists getting visibility and money from people wearing their logos, whether or not they know who the band is. Sod those Gatekeeper W⚓s.
I'm a 59 year old woman. I wear band shirts all the time. Most of them are bands I've seen and listen to. For example, Metallica, Ozzy, Bring Me the Horizon, and Good Charlotte (yes Good Charlotte)
Of course at the end of the day it’s none of my business what other people wear, i just can’t imagine someone would not be curious about what the artist on his/her shirt sounds like😂 I feel like people should at least try to listen to one song/do some research, and that could be a way to discover some cool artists, too. If the person doesn’t even know the shirt is a band merch (like the metalica girl) then it’s okay though cuz they won’t even be able to tell.
I am in my 60's, and don't wear any band shirt to any concert. I was at a Flogging Molly show, for me it was a Violent Femmes show, but so many people were wearing Flogging Molly, Dropkick Murphys, Pogues, because that's what's expected. And then I saw this one young guy wearing a Rory Gallagher shirt. I went up to him and told him how amazing was Rory and he said "This is my grandfather's shirt".
For me personally, I try to wear music merch with a design or logo of the artists rather than the face or picture of them. I do t know why but to me, it seems like it works better.
you know what i think? i didn’t watch the whole video yet but i absolutely love that intro!!. You look much more confortable in front of a camera than ever before (idk if you remember me but i ve watched and sometimes commented your videos for a while now) and that makes me happy, but your videos sincerely made me laugh a lot lately. Anyways, i just wanted to say thank you sir. Greetings from Chile🇨🇱 and see you later!!
Thank you very much mate. I’m definitely feeling more comfortable in front of the camera. Still a long way to go though and I’d love to not rely on a script as heavily in future too. Thanks for the continued support. Means a lot
One also has to be extremely careful who they have the gall to walk up to and hate-keep… i’m the kind of person that will tell you too GF&SF and two times on Tuesday! If I see your car and it has a sunroof and you’ve made me mad enough I’ll drop a Chicago Sunroof surprise… there are plenty of people that see something cute or fun or exciting to look at and want to wear it well that just okay! It’s called free will & and as long as you’re not spewing some sort of bigotry hate and intentionally trying to harm someone, say like a confederate flag on your hat or shirt that sounds a clear message! Then leave people alone even if you walk up and ask him about the band and they don’t know, you just simply say oh that’s cool. I’m a huge fan. That’s cool that you’re wearing one of their shirts!!! when I turned 50 my GaF button broke off! And each year that goes by I get louder and louder about stomping out stupid… and if I see somebody attacking another person for something that’s stupid you can bet I’m gonna intervene because I’m that person so like I said one should be very careful before they have the audacity to say anything!! you don’t know if you’re poking a bear or not! lol ❤
I have a few band shirts - almost always ones I got from those artists' concerts - but I would never have even considered that somebody would *want* to wear a band shirt of someone they don't listen to. Like, it just never occurred to me that would be a possibility, until this topic has come up in recent social media. Very weird!
That was fun, well, I don’t mind if another person wears Merch shirts. I myself don’t wear them, but just as they don’t meet my style. Cheers mate, hope your week did start great 😊🙏🏻
I was half expecting you to cut in a clip of the Alan Partridge scene where he asks what his favourite Beatles album is and he says "Probably The Best of the Beatles".
I got a grey t-shirt with the logo of "Nirvana" as shown on one of their records featuring a photo of the the three members members, only it's a picture of the three "Hansons" of the classic "Mmmmbop!"! Lovely trolling hehe
I think the problem was that before the internet blew up in the late 90s punk fashion, skate fashion and band t-shirts were all pretty exclusive to their specific scene so that if you wanted to dress like that you actually had to associate with the people in that culture and now it doesn't really matter which kinda makes it lose its meaning. Back then, the people who wore thrasher shirts and heavy metal shirts were considered outsiders and unfashionable by the popular crowd who wore what was in fashion at that time which is why it's ironic all that is in fashion now. As I get older in my 30s, I care less and less what people wear.
I collect vintage tees of bands I listen to that increase in value over time. I tend to stray away from fast fashion tees because it can just overfill your closet. Always funny to troll those who quiz you though lol
So Spy x Family's collabed with Uniqlo, I showed Dad a T thinking he'd like it, and he instead bought one for my cousin as a Christmas present. As I expected, she doesn't watch it, but it looked good enough on her surprisingly that it changed my mindset about this stuff: if it looks fresh on her, it advertises the material. Then again, Spy x Family is a more current trend than Metallica... 🤷
Guess I just grew up when you could only get band shirts when you actually attended concerts by that band. Now, they're at every target, walmart and jcpenny 🤷♂️ So, I only wear band tees from bands I actually listen to. But that's me.
@@Caveman7091 I'm sure they do, as it's a revenue stream. But, when I was a kid, they certainly weren't sold down at the usual clothing stores, least any I remember. Even as a teen, most of my band shirts came from second hand stores.
for rock/metal at least, if you're just starting to get into an artist it's fine to wear their merch if you genuinely like them, you don't have to be able to recite every word of every song in reverse chronological order or something ridiculous like that. but if you're just buying a Nirvana hoodie at H&M because it's trendy and you have absolutely no intention on listening to any of their music, then that crosses a line IMO. like for me even if I liked the design of a shirt, if it was an artist that I don't listen to or don't enjoy their music I'm not gonna buy that shirt, because the band shirts I do buy it's because I like them and their music and I want to support them.
I feel you have to earn wearing a metal band tee….having the shit ripped out of you for years for been a “dirty mosher” in high school but still rocking your favourite band hoodie despite the abuse, now all those people who were giving the abuse are stealing the style without suffering the consequences
100%, there was that whole ‘GEEK’ T-shirt trend too that were worn by the girls who would make the lives of ‘geeks’ and nerds a living hell on a daily basis. I’ll never be a dick like those guys who approach people like ‘name five songs!’ and ridicule them if they don’t, but that resentment is strong. Madness how ‘emo’ is thing now too, all these popular kids not getting beaten up like the good old days 😂 We paid our dues man 😂
Anyone can wear anything they like, but I get it, it would be kinda weird seeing a guy wearing Arsenal shirt but doesn't like football, or seeing a guy dress Punk without knowing who The Ramones are lol
I have a ton of band merch from bands that I absolutely love, listen to all the time, have seen live, etc. It's a big part of my lifestyle (musician) and just general life since I fell in love with music, it's part of my identity, so I love it. But I won't lie, when I see certain people rocking the same old Nirvana or Metallica shirt, it reeks of poser, but to each their own.
I feel like this usually only applies to huge metal bands. I personally only grab merch from bands I love, and it's highly unlikely to see someone wearing a smaller band's merch without knowing who they are. I've yet to find any good fitting/good quality band merch yet though.
It has happened with Hip Hop too, big old skool iconic names like Run DMC & Public Enemy in particular, in part because of the music they made but they also had bold graphics. Although the new skool artists in rap today don't really cultivate a clothing brand like the metalheads do. They prefer to wear fashion brands or endorse it through sponsorship.
It seems that this is mainly a problem for rock fans. I have been trying to get into rock for 3 years now, but I have noticed that the community gatekeeps it and is very aghast at outsiders. It’s either , “you are fully with us or not at all”. Let alone that they literally argue on what is the best genre and “real rock” just to claim that all other rock genres suck. I must admit that rock fans are really close to the belief of anti capitalism and many hate trends and everyone who appears to have something trendy (definition of not like the other girls) , they dislike how rock songs started being used in commercials once they were at their peak. So the community has many fans who have a superiority complex with a strong belief in loyalty, so much that they don’t accept newcomers who are still learning about rock. I am an enthusiast of many things: high Fashion (and theory), music (all genres and different cultures), sports (From ballet to extreme sports) etc and definitely only rock fans are like that. Not even other music enthusiast act that way. Nobody ever mentions a thing with baseball and motorsport jackets, even less with university merch. Personally I prefer to at least generally like the merch that I am wearing or not buy it at all as it would be a waste and I usually dislike logos, faces and names. I just know that I would otherwise stop wearing it at some point and even give it away. Unfortunately I don’t struggle to see this as something that happens when rock T-shirts trend. The only case in which I dislike people eating vintage band’s tshirts is when these people are themselves artists during their concert. It happened with many western and kpop artists, I somehow don’t like it. I want to see them in THEIR merch or whatever outfit. Unless super underground, indie and broke of course. By the way this might be me being asocial (literally) and introverted but people live in a Fantasy if they believe that sharing the same liking for a musical artist could start a long conversation to end in a close friendship. I would understand between class/schoolmates and at work but random people in the sidewalk? Almost desperate of social interactions and friendship behaviour.
Band t shirts where my go to during my emo era even during the cold winter 😂. Most of the emo bands probably don't exist anymore except for My Chemical Romance
I am a Nirvana fan and I often ask people about their fav. Nirvana songs. They have no idea what I am talking about.🙁 This actually annoys me so I recommend Nirvana to them… And yup, I know who Daniel Johnston was and I have that Unfinished Album T-shirt. He had some really cool songs. I simply dont wear band T shirts I dont know because I dont want to look stupid!
Maybe you dont listen the Band but is good to know what is the Band. In Brazil, a fast fashion store print some Skrewdriver tshirts, and people doesnt know what It is and this sh*t was on the streets
imo they don't have to listen to the artist, but they should show some respect. I know people who wear band tees of music they actively hate. someone wearing a metal t-shirt or a hip-hop t-shirt, and then saying "metal/hip-hop isn't music" is just sad
I don’t get the people who just wear band shirt because of the design, like you really didn’t care what the hell is written on your shirt? Just atleast look up what is written. Imagine hating metal music but you wearing metal band shirt coz you like the design. GTFOH 😂
Ahhh I remember the story about Dave Mustaine (Megadeth) when she saw a woman wearing The band tee and he approached her and said "that's my band" and unfortunately she had no idea who that was and what that shirt was tho. And she accused Dave of being a creep or something like that HAHAHAHAH
I am also a big fan of the metallic clothing brand. I am very biased. I don't like the idea of someone wearing a t-shirt of a band they have never even heard of, on the other hand maybe they try listening to the music because of the t-shirt and if they don't like it they wear t-shirt anyway but at least they have put a little effort into it. I personally don't like Pink Floyd but they do have great cover art and great t-shirts with cover art.

Imagine Dragons, Coldplay and Of course Linkin Park!

Appreciate it mate. Thanks a lot. I am a musician myself so it’s something close to home
Or a sign of superiority complex tho
I enjoy band tees and also tees from movies I enjoy 🙂 especially to the gym and such
unironically the best video youve put out
Obviously I agree, let people wear what they want.
If it looks good, wear it: that's my only rule.
FINALLY SMTH ABT BAND SHIRTS
I know what you mean. I never used to look at song names when I listened to cds and vinyl. Spotify means I look at song titles more often
Favourite band: Iron Maiden mainly cos of the drumming
Big up for the Aphex Twin t shirt!
They're not on ASOS.
dude love the porter j sports jacket, i've been ambitiously browsing their site recently i love their stuff
They have it in black and white now, which looks amazing!
i love your delivery, it's so clean and also humorous.. subbed!
Thanks for the support 🙏
Im all for the “likes and smiles” 😂❤
And me mate 🤟🙏
The thumbnail is fresh af! 👌🔥
Cheers bro
IMO, everybody can wear what they want
but if there is a deeper meaning behind the clothing items and the fit will reflect your personality better, therefor will look better
For sure. If you just wear it then yeah that's okay. But if it's something you listen to then it kind of tells a story.
This year I came back to metal and late 90s and early 00s rock (pretty much my childhood years), I’ve been looking everywhere for a Metallica t-shirt, I think everyone can wear what they want but most of the people have no idea who that artist/band is
I've got to say though, the thumbnail has some taste man. I like it before even clicking xD
Hahahaha thank you mate 😉😂
Love this video! Metal bands do have the best designs
Glad you liked the video
What bands t-shirt do you own?
This happened to me once, I ask them about the artist and they looked at me confused but I wasn't upset I just moved on.
I guess because I'm a niche musician myself, I believe that supporting a non-mainstream musicians is a right thing to do for me)
I don't have an interest in any particular trends mb at some point those band ts were somewhat cool, but I'd rather wear a plain Jane white t, than go with a merch of a band or artist I don't like, because it's more like a cultural thing and not just about fashion. But if you wear a band t-shirt because you like the print, I genuinely don't care. I've seen some ACDC and Metallica shirts in Bershka another day, and I don't know if this is an official merch. I wouldn't wear anything which isn't an official band merch, but it's just me. You can wear whatever you want)
EDIT: Wrote this comment early in the video, so yeah, I completely agree with you. Also, Aphex Twin is dope. Love the British IDM scene, specially coming from Warp Records.
That is a really wholesome video
I kinda love to wear serious trousers and shoes with a death metal/deathcore (illegible logo but cool) band shirt, and yes, i need to at least know 2 albums of the band
I used to have a GF which had a GnR shirt and I was sometimes joking by telling her to name 5 songs. I found it a bit annoying that after some instances of this joke she didn't check out some songs, but the shirt made for a good piece of style. The point you make of wearing for instance sports stuff is a good one. I have some NFL, basketball caps without knowing much about the sport, but I least I checked out some facts about the teams.
Most of my shirts are local/small bands I love 😎
Yes. Moving on
Got some Rolling Stones and Metallica, not a huge fan of them but the design really rocks. @harryhas you nailed it. Nice video as always.
Thank you mate
It used to piss me off, but now I'm pretty chill. TH-camr Finn McKenty helped change my mind on this.
Hoping for an "Is it okay to wear" sports jerseys vid
I am in my 60's, and don't wear any band shirt to any concert. I was at a Flogging Molly show, for me it was a Violent Femmes show, but so many people were wearing Flogging Molly, Dropkick Murphys, Pogues, because that's what's expected. And then I saw this one young guy wearing a Rory Gallagher shirt. I went up to him and told him how amazing was Rory and he said "This is my grandfather's shirt".
For me personally, I try to wear music merch with a design or logo of the artists rather than the face or picture of them. I do t know why but to me, it seems like it works better.
great video as always!
Thank you very much
you know what i think? i didn’t watch the whole video yet but i absolutely love that intro!!.
Means a lot
Harry, will you show us a couple of your favorite personal music merch pieces in a sequel vid?
Very weird!
What's your rule on rolling t-shirt sleeves? I see you often do 1 roll, but is 2 too many?
That was fun, well, I don’t mind if another person wears Merch shirts. I myself don’t wear them, but just as they don’t meet my style. Cheers mate, hope your week did start great 😊🙏🏻
Thanks for watching bro. Have a great week yourself
Luckily as a Meshuggah fan, I've never seen a person wearing their shirts. I'm sure even if there are people who do, they're probably fans
@harryhas its new fresh topic and useful video 😍
Glad to hear
History is an important subject...know yourhistory!
I always like it when you can tell the people who quiz you more than they know
Here’s a similar idea - football/soccer shirts, especially retro ones, are becoming a fashion item. I hope the trend ends soon.
Me personally i only wear shirts from artists or bands that listen to or know about them
Guess I just grew up when you could only get band shirts when you actually attended concerts by that band. Now, they're at every target, walmart and jcpenny 🤷♂️
So, I only wear band tees from bands I actually listen to. But that's me.
Tour merch still exists but the prices are ridiculous now.
@@Caveman7091 I'm sure they do, as it's a revenue stream. But, when I was a kid, they certainly weren't sold down at the usual clothing stores, least any I remember. Even as a teen, most of my band shirts came from second hand stores.
Now everyone has a random Nirvana logo and a Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures bought at your nextdoor fast fashion store.
I don't wear music merchandise...if I wear something other than black or grey I am going out on a limb. 😄
for rock/metal at least, if you're just starting to get into an artist it's fine to wear their merch if you genuinely like them, you don't have to be able to recite every word of every song in reverse chronological order or something ridiculous like that. but if you're just buying a Nirvana hoodie at H&M because it's trendy and you have absolutely no intention on listening to any of their music, then that crosses a line IMO. like for me even if I liked the design of a shirt, if it was an artist that I don't listen to or don't enjoy their music I'm not gonna buy that shirt, because the band shirts I do buy it's because I like them and their music and I want to support them.
Aaah yeah, Nirvana my favorite clothing brand.
😂
Quite similar to football shirts. Some people wear them just because they liked the design, and that's totally fine.
I Totally fine with Band tees 🎉
Madness how ‘emo’ is thing now too, all these popular kids not getting beaten up like the good old days 😂 We paid our dues man 😂
Being able to be unapologetic about anything you're into no matter how you got there is the core foundation of freedom of expression.
But I won't lie, when I see certain people rocking the same old Nirvana or Metallica shirt, it reeks of poser, but to each their own.
that thumbnail is hilarious af
Nice Aphex Twin shirt.
Just got a Joy Division tshirt (closer) only know a couple of songs but love the cover picture.
What about a sports teams? Red Sox hat etc?
Band t shirts where my go to during my emo era even during the cold winter 😂. Most of the emo bands probably don't exist anymore except for My Chemical Romance
I am a Nirvana fan and I often ask people about their fav. Nirvana songs. They have no idea what I am talking about.🙁
This actually annoys me so I recommend Nirvana to them…
And yup, I know who Daniel Johnston was and I have that Unfinished Album T-shirt. He had some really cool songs.
I simply dont wear band T shirts I dont know because I dont want to look stupid!
Anything goes as long as it isn’t Stone Roses or Ride…
Weird question but what would you pack to go on holiday? What would your essentials be?
I love nirvana shirts so much because the logo is so cool and I have jewelry that goes very well with it. But I don't really listen to Nirvana
GTFOH 😂
Only if you wear my favorite bands.
