    What grit was used for the initial grinding?
    Polishing pads?
    Or
    Diamond cup grinding disc?

    A simple vista se ve bien, la diferencia del brillo se nota cuando lo miras de diferentes angulos buscando el brillo con el reflejo de la luz.

    Thanks for this. I'm just installing some salvaged second hand granite and the surface at the seam is not equal. One piece has a slightly convex surface, so it is impossible to line up perfectly. I'm considering installing it as equal as possible, then sanding the seam down. It's black granite.
    Is there any additional sealing needed, or does the granite polishing paste do that job?

      You will need to spend a lot of time with your diamonds with black granite. You likely don’t have to worry about sealer on black but you can put a light coat to make sure. The polishing paste will give you the color and shine after you achieves high mechanical finish.

    It would be nice if you explained the process and the time of each step. Looks like water then wax?

      There isn’t any wax. You can find info that you are asking for in other videos and online training.

    Thanks for sharing this. The seam is in front of my sink and is about 3 inches wide. the right side is about 1/8 inch higher than the left. Whatever they use to glue the 2 seam together breaks because 1 side moved up or moved down. I'm thinking I can remove the glue and clamp the 2 back together but will it hold or simply shift again? I'm afraid I might break the stone if I try to clamp them so they are even. If I do what you did here, the bottom and the curved design on the edge will not be even. I appreciate any advise.

      It is likely that the cabinet assembly is not structurally sound and the weight of the stone is causing compaction. It can be happening in one area only and causing a lever action. If the high side can be pushed down it is likely that you are seeing a larger gap along the backsplash on the far end of that piece. If you shore it up you will likely be able to get the high side to fall and stay down. I hope that is clear enough I am typing on my phone.

      @@tedmcfadden Thanks. I just inspected closely using a level. The cabinets are leveled but I noticed that they might have put a shim or additional wood on top of the cabinet where the granite rest. The counter is a big L shape piece so I don't wan to lift the whole thing up and risk it breaking. It looks like I can lift the left side a little. The right side wont budge. Maybe I can use a piece of wood and clamp it? The only problem is how will I be able to clean it and glue it back if I will not lift the whole stone to separate them? Thanks.

      @diymanual seams are not structural. You should not have to clamp them unless you are putting adhesive under a high side to shim it up while it is curing. Any adhesive that you use will pop if there is pressure on the seam. The trick is to figure out where the pressure is coming from and eliminate it. If the counter was ever installed level and the seams where flat there is a reason why they are not now. If it was not installed level and was clamped at the seam to level it then there is a problem with the install. You should still be able to fix it but the diagnosis is more difficult.
      We see these a lot where there is a long run like ten feet and on one side it’s sagging 1/32” but showing a much larger lip and raised at the seam because of the angle. It’s a big lever. It’s not easy to pick up that kind of subtlety on a longer piece even with a level. I use an 8 foot level and even then the bubble is barely registering off level.
      The lower side is usually the side that is sound but I have seen some situations where a seam will fall because one side is attached to a cast iron sink with clips and the other sides clips are damaged so the sink is slowly pulling one side down. It’s rare but it happens.
      This is hard to judge without seeing it obviously. A seasoned pro can usually pick out the causes and eliminate them one by one until they find the cause or a combination of causes.

      @@tedmcfadden Thank you for detailed explanation. I moved into this house with the seam already unleveled so I am not sure if it was done with defect.

    Is there anything special about the red duct tape? I used regular duct tape and it fell off very quick after using some water.
    Also are you spraying water before grinding sanding or polishing? Or some other liquid?
    Lastly, what is 1000r vs regular 1000? Do you use the tool at a constant low rpm of 600, or do you change speeds for different grits?

    • @tedmcfadden
      @tedmcfadden  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I use a waterproof red tape.
      Yes spray water.
      The 1000r provides a little more heat then the 1000 turbos and pop the shine enough to polish.

    • @tedmcfadden

      I use low rpm on all grits and sometimes increase at 1000 if I think I can keep the water under the machine.

    What do you do when it's a lip. Meaning at the front of the granite it's level until about mid way to the end it's a very obvious lippage. Of course it's because of how the installers set it. Would it be safe to just clean that seam out and reseam it or would it be an issue to restore and hone that lippage down?

    • @tedmcfadden
      @tedmcfadden  ปีที่แล้ว

      You can raise one side of a slab slightly with twist shims or other methods and the other side may go down. Often the cabinets can not support the weight of the counters and start to sag. This happens a lot in areas that use 3 cm granite.
