The Motion: This House Believes The West Has No Right to Impose Environmental Standards on Developing Countries
Kriti Joshi opens the case for the opposition, as the second speaker of six in the debate.

What's the problem with these Indian people. She delivered a very good speech with lots of courage that most of us don't have. Give some appreciation instead of giving bad comments.

She was speaking in the AC hall, and all of those who were clapping have ACs/heaters in their homes and they have more electricity consumption than any person from developing nations. Historically CO2 is emitted by developed nations, and now developed nations want to share the responsibility to cope up with climate change.
India and other developing countries were not part of that historic emissions. Now questions arise. How many developed countries provide funds for renewable transitions? Why do developed nations have issues with India providing subsidies for solar panels? What is the per capita emission of India or any developing countries? why western or so called developed nations don't want to change their lifestyle? why are they forcing developing nations to limit their growth?

I am in class 10th a 15 year old boy and recently in my school a debate was organised and the topic was "privatisation of Defence will weaken the Indian Army" and me and my team got the favour of topic( preposition of the topic) I struggled quiet a bit to understand the topic but after thoroughly studying it, I finally understood it and won the debate and also won the best debater award.

Why is everyone's mind blown by "the way she delivered the speech"? She was interacting with only her papers all the time.
I am sure the other 3.5K (majority) likers don't have any problem with how she speaks, stands and delivers the speech. Only dumb people have concerns to these. You know there goes a saying "Empty vessels make the most noise". It takes a lot to stand there and deliver a speech written by herself. Debate is the flow of information and bring about a positive change and whether it done through reading or memorizing, same thing. Also monotonic reading is a different case. She was interacting with the audience too. And she has a British accent because she lives there. Don't criticize when you can't be close enough to her. I think she really deserves a clap.

I was scrolling down thinking i will get some more knowledge nd see some discussion how can we attempt to sort out the climate issue, but what i m seeing is people are more concerned about her body language, her memory power instead of the issue even after hearing these many thought provoking points.

I would like to give my point
I did arrive at this video when searching for "individual debate championship", so I personally paid more attention to the presentation of the content rather than the content of her speech itself. There are far better places to look for info on climate change than debate videos on TH-cam

1. The west declared China and India as developed before they proceeded to trade with them.
2. The west gave away rail networks to sell cars just so it could sell oil.
3. Transition to e-means of transport is way faster in 'developing nations' the only plausible obstruction being the west.
The video doesn't show both the sides of view, which would have lead to a proper perspective. Taken for its face value, its information is tardy, vague and way out-of-context.

Don't wait for a century it will be too early, maybe 25 to 40 years . Already I saw Tamil news 2 weeks back, that the east coast of tamilnadu lost some 100s of hectares of land to the bay of Bengal within 25 years. You can recognise the sign that you are going to lose your land to sea , by ground water at 10 feet depth will be salty that u can't taste.
There's no denying pollution in India but a polite disagreement to her saying the sky is opaque because I personally have never seen that. Another thing is that developed nations have carelessly industrialized and emptied resources but developing nations are not that's why they're still developing. We've already chosen the environment friendly path. But I agree nothing is enough. But when I look forward to hear such debates in Oxford I am surprised to hear what I already know. People have heard the problem now they need a solution which I don't see here. Still delivery of speech and all that was good. So congratulations 🇮🇳🙏🥰

The United States is by far the most polluted country in the world and India's per capita emission is less than half of that of the US so her comment was simply delusional. Although this video is almost five years back, but I would like to add on into, that We agree that under our nation there is though to apply such policies which are mainly involved into environmental pollution, but as she said if could have find some solutions, awareness as well as government support so somehow we found control it over. She did a great job. I remember last year when I was giving speech for the position of head girl for my school I forgot my whole speech when the whole audience was staring at me. Public speaking really sucks.

Whole Conclusion is in one line.. "Climate is global problem and hence it is a global duty" Beside that developed nation must set an example. Better late than never.
India has shown the world, we are leading from the front, we have formed International Solar Alliance, we have given the world Panchamrit(by our PM in the latest COP26) we are the only developing country to fulfill the targets of Paris Climate Accords efficiently, we have given to ourselves ambitious targets... Moreover leave the historical emissions done by the West, our per capita emissions is still one of the lowest in the world... The developed nations never delivered on their promise to provide financial and technical assistance to developing nations(agreed upon in the Paris Climate Accord), we still don't complain and we have still set an ambitious target of attaining net zero emissions.. except for few Polluted towns the sky in India is still blue and clear, as per the latest report our forest cover has increased, we have focused on electric vehicles inspite of our financial barriers... It's easy to target your home country standing in the Oxford, the real challenge is to stand United and fight against the evil Climate Change and,... And her speech was just fantastic

Contribution of developing nations in climate changes we are facing today is very very less compared with that of developed nations. It's nice thought that developing nation cannot do the same mistake already done by developed one's. But you cannot just keep developing countries in the same list of climate change sinner, which I feel has been did by over exharation of problems in India.Indeed We need a sustainable way by which developing countries could grow without any contribution toward climate change. I can relate to this girl. Last year when I gave my presentation at Institute, some said I gave mind-blowing facts and envied my speaking skills. While some criticized me saying I was using too much hand gestures and body language like I'm dancing. I ain't minded them but I just think I can give a better knowledge with gestures and motions. It's like we're picturing something and bringing in front with gestures.
yes actually I have faced some similar comments as I usually fail to keep control of my hand gestures and my body is out of my attention during my speeches. But the people who are actually concerned and desirous to hear us would listen to our content and would put lesser attention to where our body is moving. Her content was undeniably amazing and all the criticism she is being showered with blur out behind our appreciations and her speaking skills.
something similar happened with me few weeks ago when I was preparing for a debate and my teachers asked me to lock my hands and speak.... ohh god how difficult it was to speak without gesturing for particular lines. 😶

Overcomplicating the solution. It's easy:
Reduce or eliminate meat consumption
Reduce fossil fuels usage
Plants millions of 🌲 trees
1. Would reduce the population who cannot afford to buy plant-based food through either violence (from those who rebel against such imposing laws) or starvation.
2.Would reduce the population who rely on the energy obtained from fossil fuels and prevent the industrialisation of third world nations, thus resulting in starvation or declarations of war on the imposing first world nation.
3. Would reduce the population as land is needed for homes and that land will be taken from the poor first before it will be taken from the rich.
The whole point was that everybody knows what to do and still discuss it.! But It should be about how to do it. And that developed countries need to realize that they need to support developing countries in implementing the things that you mentioned.
1. For optimized health, humans need meat.
2. Only if Nuclear is promoted.
@@johnjoe9754 yes! to add on your 3rd point, Planting tress without constant monitoring may be proven to be futile. If you only plant the tree in this random plane that hasn't had anything planted on it for years, you might have to question how fertile the dirt is, the microorganism that lives in it rn, how much water is in the dirt, whether the tree will have a bad affect on the surrounding ecosystem or even consider whether the tree is suited for the climate. There's so much that goes in to it and the amount of manpower, dedication, considerations and money is not something we can just ignore. Even so, after the trees are planted, greedy people might see this and undo the amount effort by simply burning or cutting down the trees for wood.

Indian sky is not brown, except the capital region, we also live in India since my birth I never found the sky brown. I grown up by seeing green(🌲),blue & white🏔🏙🌈. Your observations based on a selected region don't apply on the whole nation.. however i like your other arguments on this topic of climate change.
The capital's sky's are not brown because of cars emitting CO2. It's brown because there are farmers who are burning the stubble in the surrounding area.

The point was that Mercury, despite being closer to the sun is 3 times cooler than venus because CO2 in Venus's atmosphere exceeds that of Mercury.(gases like CO2,CH4 etc are greenhouse gases that trap heat energy of the sun leading to global warming).She is pointing towards the change of balance that our unbridled growth is bringing about where most of the CO2 already sequestered beneath the ground is being released back into the atmosphere.
it's not about what is placed far from the sun...its the uniquue feature every planet has..mercury doesnt have green house gases like co2 ch4..but venus has co2 and ch4 content greater than the earth so that makes the hottest planet..venus cant have a change as its their feature but if i talk about earth the % of co2 rising is man made

Great isn't it? The number of people who say "this isn't a debate- she's just reading notes!" They've obviously gone a long way these scholars.... not far enough though to understand that before having a debate, someone needs to say something to debate about! I like the concept of having a note in front of you to not deviate from topic and speak points that really matters unlike tv debates where they just shout over another to show dominance and ramble non-sense all the time.

As an Indian , I want to say on behalf of all developing countries , we are just paying for what western developed countries did 200 years ago , it's them that they are responsible for global warming , through the industrial revolution they have augmented the world's economic in their country , now when developing countries are on wave to have industrial or manufacturing revolution , they are forced down to come down , no we will not step down untill you all western countries provide us sufficient funds and technology to help us .

We all notice the small changes but have never imagined the tremendous result we are heading towards. She has opened our eye's by giving us example of Venus so we must talk about climate change daily and took it more seriously before our land get's submerged and water came to our nose.
Firstly, the best thing about the earth and the species on the earth is that they evolve. We are evolving with the changing climate. Although Climate change is a serious problem, nobody can deny the fact. Second thing is that earth would see another extinction of species like it had faced previously. That is inevitable we just can defer it for longer period.

Climate change is a natural occurring process that is clearly apparent in the studies of historical climate accounts. This, ofcourse, does not mean that our contribution to environmental pollution has not accelerated and exasperated this process. Let us, as a society, not be polarised in approaching such a challenge. Rather, let's be united in achieving feasible strategies to counteract our own carbon footprints, individually and collectively.
Okay, i agree with you, 1.Nuclear energy (Uranium, Thorium) is the better solution here, but Creating Powerplant and maintaining is not piece of cake for 3rd world countries, instead they use Coal excessively, they are using so much compared to great industrial revolution era.
I live in western ghats of South India, Tempareture is 22-28 °C which is perfect, but compared to 2013, now we have the same temperature, but from Jan to July, we are facing the worst heat wave. Feels like sitting in the oven.
If we see about the climate change or so much carbon in the air the major cause of these r the developed countries like UK...they did so much industrialization insted of thinking about the climate and becomes developed... while we r seeing the developing countries following the same path for being developed then we start caring about the climate change..🤷🏻♂️ but if we think the major cause of the climate change then these are the developed countries (not the developing countries ) which already produced enough carbon in the air...if the developed countries really cares about the climate change then they should provide enough technology and resources for the developing countries which they have so that developing countries can take control on the production of the carbon so the new generation takes the first step towards the healthy environment...Thank you 🙏🏻 lots of love from India❤️🇮🇳
