[OLD VIDEO] The History of Singapore's Transit Buses Part 3 (2012-2015 and Beyond)

- Here is the history of the transit buses that were used in Singapore from 1973 until today. This video will also show a little info on the future about when which bus will be scrapped. Please note: I do not own SBS Transit, SMRT, or the music! Music copyright goes to Marianas Trench.
Updated info not mentioned in the video.
2015:
- After SMB388S's trial was a success, SMRT purchases more MAN NG363Fs (A24).
- Following SMB5888H's trial success, more MAN ND323Fs (A95) have been purchased.
2016:
- Lush Green was voted as Singapore's new bus livery.
- Tower Transit is introduced, the first company to use the new lush green livery.
- Go-Ahead Singapore is introduced.
- SG4001J (BYD K9) demonstrator is introduced, Singapore's first 100% electric powered bus.
- SBS8002T was de-registered sold back to Australia. It will not be scrapped in 2032.
2017:
- The facelifted MAN ND323Fs (A95) were introduced.
- The first 3-door buses, SG4002G (MAN A22) and SG5999Z (MAN A95) enters service.
2018:
- SG4003D (Volvo B8L) demonstrator was introduced.
- SBS Transit acquires MAN NL323Fs (A22) and NG363Fs (A24) from SMRT. This marks the first time in 12 years for SBS Transit to be operating articulated buses.
- The lifespan of the Volvo B10M DM3500s are extended. They are set to retire by the end of 2018.

2016 : Tower Transit and Go Ahead Singapore was founded.
All 4 companies changed their livery to the "Lush Green" Livery
Chargers were placed in some buses so passengers could charge their phones.
2017 : New bus interior was introduced to Go Ahead Singapore.
2017: sg4002g (3 door man a22) and sg5999z (3 door man a95) will be introduced

Some updates about SBS8002T, the bus was de-registered back in October 2016 and was sold back to Australia. It will not be scrapped in 2032 as said in this video.

The WAB buses will not be scrapped as they cannot go into kranji kiat lee, they'll be sold.
Yeah, but they'll most likely be scrapped in the next 2 decades when their lifespan has expired. Look at SBS1688K and SBS2888T for example, they're both wheelchair accessible buses and they have recently been scrapped. By the 2020s and the 2030s they'll have to repeat the cycle again, find newer model buses to replace the old ones.

Looks like MAN NL323F,MAN NG363F and MAN A95 is like lion head,so thats why it is called lion city.
Mistake:The last Mercedes Benz Hispano Carrocera Mark 2 is not scrapped.
They're already all retired back in 2017. I think you saw an SMRT O405G Volgren and mistaken it for a Mark 2 since they kinda have a similar shape.

TIB838H ended it's service on March 11th, 2013 was was later scrapped that year.

bernard wei Actually I think that was 2013, the last non-air conditioned Double Decker was scrapped. But I just put the last Volvo Olympian will be scrapped in 2017. I didn't really put any specific batch or whether or not it is air-conditioned.

bernard wei If they do that, then how are people gonna get around Singapore? Trains sometimes break down and taxis are expensive, so of course they're not gonna destroy all the buses. By sometime in the late 2020's or the early 2030's, there will be new buses that will replace the buses that we see today (like the Citaro, the OC500LEs, etc).

Question. How did you know when they will be scrapped? Unless you're someone who can predict the future or you're the person who is in charge of the buses which I find Unlikely.

I also estimated when the buses will be decommissioned, usually a normal lifespan lasts around 17-21 years.
No, the buses would only go for mid-life refurbishment when you said they were meant to be 'scrapped'.
So far, I was right about SBS2888T and the last O405 Mark 1 being scrapped in 2016 (and this video was from Feb 2015).

banker benjamin Unfortunately, all good things come to an end. You still got 17 more years with the Citaro, so enjoy every minute with them. Also Leyland and Volvo, I don't exactly know the difference between them, other than them having different brands.
