I feel like there was an original plan of giving each faction a 'super unit', the mothership for the protoss, the odin for terran and the brutalisk or leviathan for the zerg
I felt that too, we never saw them announce that the zergs one was going to be though before they scrapped the concept, would explain why the brutalist and leviathan are even in the game though (my money would be on the brutalist)
@@sparke66 That's not the old Mothership. It's not even the multiplayer one, nor has the same model. The Tal'darim Mothership is powerful and all, but it wasn't the Mothership I hoped we'd get in the campaign.

That would be badass to watch!
Ok, let's all be honest, that mothership was so bloody op it'd have to cost at LEAST 1000/1000 to be even close to balanced. Vortex also killing the units it pulls in basically means this will always win unless there's a proper concave, but the area of effect is so big it barely looks like it matters. Overload actually looks pretty interesting. I definitely prefer phoenixes lifting and being able to attack while moving, though.
all that hype is worn out after nine years later.. I genuinely don't understand why, but somehow all those effects and sounds are way much more dynamic and exciting than what I actually got right now. it's just.. so boring. Zealots are just swinging their arms like in the really old classic starwars movie, Zerglings are just scratching things with muffled noises. today Mengsk co-op commander is released and I got to play him, but through out years it feels like playing chess, because battle animations are so quite and uninspired. when I played original Starcraft, Carriers were kicking out interceptors and they were flying around like crazy so just controlling them alone was very fun. now it's like, even if I got bunch of high tier units, as I said it feels just like moving chess pieces.
the "IK" System is still there in the game today. Pay close attention to a Colossus' legs when it walks up/down cliffs. The legs do still rest correctly, the ones on the high cliff side on the top and the other ones on the bottom. It's a little wonky but you don't notice that most of the time. In this we do see very complex physics that didn't make its way into the game until Heart of the Swarm, though.
