    I am 44 and was way out of shape. I am 5'6 and ballooned up to 387 lbs. I was giant. Last September at 368 lbs, I said no more. I started a huge lifestyle change. Keto, 20:4 fast, calorie deficit. and I dropped 65lbs. For Christmas, my wife and I gave each other a gym and converted a room in the basement. We got a rower and adjustable dumbbells to start. I challenged myself to start on January 1 and row every day for a month and I've already lost 16 more pounds this year. I'm stronger than I've been in years. I have energy to actually do shit. We've never met. I've never spoken with you, but thank you. Seriously. I made a decision to change my life, but the videos you have put together about rowing is just a huge service. I've rowed this exact workout every single day beginning to end for the last 23 days. One day, I actually had the energy to do it twice. This workout still kicks my ass.

    Got my row machine last week and I’ve done about 6 various workouts from the DH videos. Started at 200 lbs from depression eating and binge drinking in quarantine. Been taking pics every day to look back and see progress. Already feeling 100 x better! It’s very therapeutic and can’t wait to do my workout everyday! Love the positivity.

    Thank you for this. I’m getting back into rowing as plantar fasciitis has curtailed my running, and after 10 years languishing and lonely in the garage my husband threatened to sell my Concept 2. I’m so glad I’ve found your videos, as otherwise I wouldn’t have the discipline to do an effective workout. You “sit” on our folded tent and my sons fishing gear and keep me company and motivate me whilst I huff and puff my way back to fitness. Keep up the good work!

    Hi I'm male 69 on October 18th. I purchased a Dripex Rower about a month ago and doing the 30 minutes beginner every morning, my left leg thinner and bad knee due to past motorcycle accident so not as flexible but able to complete all of the rowing. It does make me feel better and will carry on rowing thank you Shane.

    Hey man, recently turned 40 and just started rowing. I have two kids under 6 and a full time desk job covid hit me hard with the weight gain. I started waking up at 5am to do this exercise and I'm loving it! I can't thank you enough for your help with getting my health, and fitness back on track!

    • @chelseynegron6972
      @chelseynegron6972 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      1 month in, how's it going? I'm really looking for a way to combat a desk job plus 60lbs of Covid weight. Lacking dedicated workout time and motivation, I'm looking for inspiration. How's your workout routine treating you so far?

    • @renehughes2098
      @renehughes2098 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chelseynegron6972 Hey Chelsey, So far so good!! I only do this one once a week now and I'm doing more 30 min ones that progress the SPM's every so often. It's also given me the motivation to go for jogs, or jump rope once or twice a week to mix it up a bit. Unfortunately I over did it with a run and got achilles tendinitis. What's great about rowing is it's very low impact so I can still do this with out pain around my ankle. I'm also getting use to getting up 40 min earlier to get these in. I'm slowly starting to see a difference with my body, but I still need to work on the evening snacks lol. Overall I'm really happy I started rowing!! I just bought an entry level machine from Best Buy because I didn't want to spend a lot on something I might not stick with. I'm glad I did because it works well and still get a good workout from it. Highly recommend getting into it Chelsey, there are a few different content creators on youtube, some I like more than others. I find as the days go by I'm pushing (or pulling?) with more and more force and confidence. I was worried about bad form leading to me hurting my back. That's why I liked the Dark Horse Rowing beginner workouts because he does a great job breaking down the parts of the movement. The arms alone portion was the hardest part for me to conquer lol.

    • @chelseynegron6972
      @chelseynegron6972 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@renehughes2098 That is so good to hear! I'm happy you're enjoying it and finding it motivating. I also have a love for running - I used to LOVE jogging outside for 5-8 miles at a time but an 60 additional pounds is not great on the knees. Until I'm at a point where I can start running again, I'm finding it hard to even get on the treadmill for a walk. But just hearing how well it's working for you is giving me all kinds of motivation!

    • @renehughes2098
      @renehughes2098 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chelseynegron6972 That was the same for me. Pre-covid I was running 3 to 6 miles. thinking I could just jump back into that was the mistake that got me injured. But I definitely found that his is giving me that sweat and using my core muscles a lot more than running was. I would also give jump rope a shot! When I started I couldn't go a minute without tripping up for having to take a break, but I'm slowly progressing and noticing that I can start to go longer without stopping. Good on you Chelsey for wanting to get your sweat on!! Just checking out this vids and reaching out to me is showing that you already got the motivation. You just need to pull the pull the trigger and get started :) , the habit and routine will come a lot faster than you might realize.

      Same 40 year old... 5.30-7:00 Workout. 5 days a week...I've lost 2.4lb a week for 12weeks. I'm getting complimented by men and women / friends - I have been doing more walking and activities and going out with my kids. This is a life habit now, not a diet, or a fad - I got a Fit Bit inspire 2 and now I'm tracking steps / sleep etc. Dropped two jean waist sizes - I haven't had a 34" waist for a decade *High Five for sorting our lives out*

    Separating out the specific parts and tools for each of the seven step assembly process steps was brilliant on the part of the manufacturer. For the price, I am impressed at how sturdy this th-cam.com/users/postUgkxvObaTzoHoHQLL4lHbJQmExHqsrZQm-f7 unit is and it does go together easily. Well, I was puzzled at first at Step 5 and maybe the instructions should mention that rail #62 needs to be tilted upwards a little to get the rail to fit into the main part #44. I like it that the rower can be stored vertically in a really small amount of space, but be forewarned that this rower is top heavy and for safety you'll need at least two bungee cords to keep the unit upright, attaching them to something; in my case to a third garage door. I have had this unit only a short time, and I will post an update once I've had it for a year. As for working your legs, I have to admit that I'm mainly rowing for upper body strength and I use other forms of exercise for leg strength (like walking fast, biking, or using a trampoline. But if you pull as far forward as possible, then you can give preference to your legs for the first 4 feet or so of travel. I also admit to not taking the two electronic connectors apart at Step 7. I simply inserted the two batteries while the other parts remained connected. By the way, there is plenty of resistance here, even in the lowest resistance settings. Kudos to Sunny Health & Fitness !

I had been rowing at a Crossfit gym, but I found that I was working myself to death with a lot of wasted effort. So now I'm learning from you and working on my technique and enjoying it so much more. Today, I did this workout with you and saw good results with less s/min.

    Thank you for the video Shane.
    I've lost 45lbs on keto in the last three months and have been road biking 20mil 3x per/wk but I felt that I needed a more full body cardo that wasn't high impact. After determining rowing was the way to go it took me a while to figure out the right one for me (went with water). The next thing was training since I knew next to zilch. I happened across your channel and have been watching to familiarize myself with rowing, proper technique etc. Thank you again for the videos. Very informative and helpful.

    Great workout! I'm 58 and a little more than overweight. I spend the majority of my waking hours behind a desk or driving. Gym memberships, free weights, and other popular workouts don't haven't worked for me. I bought a rower a couple of weeks ago and am already addicted. Love that I can roll out of bed, put shoes on, and row into my day. Rowing is the first workout that gives me the same full body workout satisfaction as I got as a competitive swimmer way back "in the 1900's" as my daughter would say. Looking forward to coming back to this workout again and again!

My PT suggested rowing in my quest to regain strength, but my form hasn't been the best - too much force, not enough finesse! This instruction gave me longevity in my workout today, plus lots of interesting things to play with and think about. I'm already looking forward to my next row! Thanks again.

    As a cyclist who transitioned to doing rowing as a more "complete" workout, the arms part was the hardest 🤣 Great workout, the ability to check and assess form is super handy. Will be doing this workout for a while as those drills also help focus which muscles you're using too. As someone who is NOT that flexible, I couldn't even do the stretches properly afterwards. I am working on this with some other stretches that work the whole posterior chain, so hopefully I'll see progress there.

    I just bought a beginner rowing machine for at home use. In my research, I came across your channel. love how you explain the form, stroke rate, and challenges. This feels very approachable. I'm very excited to get started along with your videos.

    Man, first time around when I got my rowing machine, I just looked up the basic way of how to do the movements properly and just did that for the whole of my workout time.
    Had a pretty big time of falling off and not doing it anymore until recently. Then went back into it, but I wasn't sure if comfortable with doing it correctly anymore so I did the YT search again.
    So happy I found this. Doing it alongside the vid, adding those extra exercises in, it just occupies my brain that tiny bit more, enough for me to go through with it all more smoothly and not feel like I'm just pushing myself and dropping all the necessary pose stuff towards the end.
    I'm gonna keep coming back to this one for a while probably, it's just so much better than what I used to do! Thank you

    I'm always having a hard time rowing, but still try to push through it. After my membership expired, I decided that I'm not going to renew it, so I went hunting on TH-cam and found this video last week Thursday and decided to give it a try.... IT WAS A GAME CHANGER!! I've been doing it since then. I'm so happy!
    Mind you I have 40% AVN in my hip, so work outs can be challenging for me. I did this without any issues. Thank you so much!

    Hey Shane, I really appreciate the video! I just got a Sunny Rowing machine and I found and have been using this video every day for the last 2+ weeks as I learn to row properly.
    1 thing I just ran into 2 days ago, and I feel like in a future easiest begginer video version it could be discussed, is breathing properly. A few days ago I got comfortable enough to start pushing really hard for the last 4 minutes. I didn't know how to breath properly and I found myself holding my breath on the hardest pushes. The pressure that caused in my body was strong enough it damaged my right ear. I am hoping it is not permanent, and by no means do I blame anyone for it, but it would be nice to see others avoid my problem.
    Just a thought. I did find a breathing video you did separately after this happened, but having it maybe in the warmup portion of a future version of this video would be helpful :). I can't wait to go to the 30 minute begginer videos in a week or 2!

    Thank you so much! I've been working for a few months to rebuild my hamstrings as they shortened over the years due to my being a wheelchair user. My partner and I started with cycling but recently got a rowing machine. This workout was perfect for a beginner and got my heart rate up without me having to take a break and pause. Thanks again!❤

    I’m 56 years old and my husband bought me a Concept 2 rower for my birthday last year, because I love to row , even though I might not have the right form, right after I found out that I have plantar fasciitis in both feet and tendinitis also in my left foot, so long story short I couldn’t use my rower, I became so frustrated doing everything I should to help me, when I found dark horse on TH-cam and today I Monday, April 8 I did this 30 minute workout and I absolutely love it and we’ll see if it aggravates my planter fasciitis. Thank you Dark horse I’m so glad I found you.

    Watching your videos have been so helpful, I can’t even begin to tell you how much. I’m 52 and have never really rowed before and started to take it more seriously this year. I feel so much more confident about my technique, form and pace. When I slowed everything down and started working out to songs as slow as 50bpm it gave me that window of time to focus on what I was doing right and what I was doing wrong. My posture still needs some finessing but I don’t look anything like I did a couple months ago. Thank you so much for these tutorials ❤!

    I'm new to rowing and started with this and it's been great!! I'm going to keep with this workout for the next 4 to 6 weeks until I'm sure about my form. I'm not sure if anyone else feels this.. but I really think it's harder to cheat if I'm not strapped in and so I'm going to go with that. Thanks so much for this resource I'm certain I would have picked up a whole bunch of bad habits if I didn't have it!!

    Thank you so much for your videos.. Wow.. I'm almost 65 and love these workouts. I just did your intermediate interval workout, and try as I may, I could only get to mid 700 meters.. I've noticed that the harder you pull towards your chest, the more meters you get. I followed your stroke rates but couldn't get to your meters. I'm hoping this improves with time. Thank you again.. :)
