    I’m in Denver, Colorado. I did the math and it’s recommended that I don’t spend more than $924/month. 🤦‍♂️. That’s not even close for a studio or 1 bedroom lease. 😭. They run about $1,500 and up.

    Average rent here in Miami will run you close to $2000.00 a month.

  • @rayzee0285
    @rayzee0285 3 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    It's actually gross pay you base the 30% on, so pay before taxes. The way you're calculating is with net pay (after taxes) which is smarter and better to save money but almost no one in America would be able to rent anywhere then...

      Are you sure? I am moving to Montgomery county Texas from Georgia and I’m looking at the apartments in Houston and Conroe Texas. I’ve found plenty of 1 bedroom/1 Bath apartments for $750-1000. Have you look on the apartment apps?

    • @shankb8508

      Yeah you might want to look again ,I saw plenty of NICE apartments with 1 bed 1 bath for under 700, I’m planning to move to Houston.

    • @trudoll

      What apartments are YOU trying to move into. Usually 1bedrooms for 1,000+ are luxury and small. There are plenty of apartments 600-900 range

      lol. I pay $850 a month in Houston and it is largest in my complex. You all need to stop being spoiled and wanting granite counter tops and being 3 minutes from the office in midtown. I live out in Humble and commute. Another 15 minutes out and you can find rents even cheaper.

    This advice is all great and factual, but not realistic anymore. My boyfriend and I are trying to get a one bedroom in Bakersfield Ca aka the cheapest place in California to live right now and they start at $1300 a month. By this advice I can only afford $450 rent LOL

      No more than a quarter of your monthly net, if you have a emergency fund of 6 months (2-3 is alright too but sketchy) and have no debt. That’s a relatively common method

    Your example left out fica and Medicare state and federal taxes. Also I lived in CT many years and have much family in lower and upper Fairfield County; most new first time employees out of college don’t make enough on one income to get an apartment. Studios are hard to find in that area of CT

    tips on figuring out how much you should be paying if you are only paying half of the rent, aka living with someone else who is splitting the cost of rent with you ? should it still be 1/3 of your takehome pay??

    • @AvaElizabeth
      @AvaElizabeth  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The portion you individually pay should be 1/3 or less of your take-home pay. I loved having roommates because it makes the portion I pay cheaper! :)

    So I'm in my teens and I'm thinking of live in a houseboat, a spot at the marina for the size of boat in about $300-$450 a month and the costs of the houseboat is about $250 a month for a 10 year loan and $125 a month for a 20 year loan. What would be better, a shorter loan with a higher price tag and lower budget for other goods or a longer loan with a smaller price tag and have more spending money but stay in debt longer?

    • @Frog_the_man
      @Frog_the_man 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also as regards to other amenities, WiFi is free at the boat dock, I have power and water hook ups year around, 99% of houseboats are fully furnished and stay that way, and finally I don't have to pay property tax as boats are classified as a vehicle so wouldn't have worry about that also heating and air is very little because the small units that houseboats use will quickly heat or cool the small space ( lease than 400 square feat

    You should take in consideration the other budget expenses that You may or ,may not have, for instance that .333 is calculating having a car payment, insurance etc.. if you don't have any of does expense you could add them to your rent budget and maybe get into a place that you really want to live at.
