- Pompey Magno (1666)
Dramma per musica of three acts with libretto by Niccolo Minato, first performed at the Teatro S. Salvatore in Venice, 20 February 1666.
Dedicated to Madama Illustriss Maria Mancini Colonna, Roman Princess, Duchess of Tagliacozzo, published in Venice by Francesco Nicolini. Within the original manuscript It includes the dedication to the princess, a message to the reader, and details of the decorations in each scene, and the dances throughout.
The Dramma per musica refers to Gnaeus Pompeius Magnus (106 BC - 48 BC), consulted as a member of the triumvirate with César and Crassus.
At the start of Act II we hear Balletto de Pazzi followed by the aria “Incomprensibil Nume” in which Pompey gives thanks to the gods in the presence of Caesar for his victories.
