@Thunderbolt Why on earth are you so negative? I'm guessing you're a Trump fan and that has something to do with it? The line likening black men to animals was a tipoff. This man made NO negative comments and yet here you are inserting your own ugliness. BTW did you know Japan was a signatory to the Kyushu treaty and the Paris climate agreement? I think the US broke faith on environmental agreements in both cases didn't they? But here you are talking about trying to live in a carbon free environment? Look at what Trump is doing to the EPA and what Dubya did before him? You were in Japan "three times"? In what areas? You're saying ALL of Japan has a pollution problem unlike the oh so pristine US? Man get over yourself. Don't be so ignorant.
As a Japanese, I am glad of his experience. To him, Japan was different from the United States in all aspects, including culture, values and religious views, but Japan was utopia to him. It must have been his destiny to meet his life partner, his wife, in Japan.
As a Black man living in a dangerous AF city in America, I'm grateful to see this video. So hopeful and inspiring. Someday, I want to leave my crime-ridden, depressing hometown and find a happy change of scenery in Japan.

I love this brotha's story! I lived in Japan for 3 years as a black man while stationed in the military. I was there with my family and we absolutely loved it. @great vengeance He was battling depression that's the key to his addiction and sometimes one has to make drastic changes in order to heal. Japan was his calling since his childhood
All of the BEJ videos I've seen thus far are honest. The interviewees are very honest and open, I mean. But I particularly appreciate this man's openness. We blacks in America are conditioned to suffer quietly. Studies have shown that our pain and trauma--be it physically, emotionally, or mentally--is not acknowledged. It's actually belittled. So the fact that this guy even mentioned things like addiction and touched on mental health issues is actually refreshing, and I think it shows that he's in a great place emotionally and mentally. I agree with others that the US can be a toxic environment for blacks, especially black men. I'm happy to see how Japan positively shaped this man's life.
I’m so glad that I came across this video. His testimony is so inspiring and will continue to inspire many people who may be going through the same circumstances. Also, huge kudos to him for calling out the irresponsible male foreigners in Japan who just sleep around and take advantage of their rarity here. They are not only depressing themselves, but having a negative affect on their wives and the next generation-their own children. I pray that they grow as humans and mend their ways and relationships. 🙏🏾 Blessings.
