I love this movie and I feel like I am friends with everyone who resonated with it. It's so specific, I think you have to be an oddball to appreciate it. It's a movie difficult to recommend, I know only three people in my life to whom I could recommend it. Also, I think people who liked this would like Baraka, and maybe two anime: Sonny Boy and Tatami Galaxy. Have fun in life!

This is an excellent film. I watched it more than a decade ago and it had a profound impact. I have tried light switches and looked at clocks in my dreams. All true and absolutely extraordinary! ✨🙏🏽

This absolutely worked for me. I would have these horrible stress-induced nightmares about being at work, and after watching this movie I eventually was able to play with the light switches in my dream, and realize it wasn't affecting the light levels, and was able to become lucid, tell all my dream co-workers to f-- off, and flew out of there like Peter Pan. It was fucking awesome! After that I would be able to on occassion trigger lucidity by observing light levels, trying to read clocks, or anything with text. I've had a couple lucid dreams where I found myself in a bookstore or library, and am able to pick up a book and start reading it, knowing that everything I'm reading is just stuff coming out of my brain while I'm sleeping. It's a very strange experience.

You will know you did it right (and will more than likely have a lucid dream that night) when things seem unfamiliar, and you get a feeling of euphoria and joy. Look at your hands reminding yourself that you're in a dream. Look at everything in waking life with close attention, just knowing it is a dream. Have fun and be responsible! The effects on consciousness are impactful. If you feel like you're dissociating from doing this, stop it immediately.

What i like is you don't really need drugs to get a high while watching this. Drugs might make it more interesting and intense but the dream-like world it takes place on naturally feels like a trip. I got stoned before watching this one time and it was absolutely amazing, but some scenes were difficult to follow. I had to pick and choose which ones my attention span would allow me to absorb.
I could never ger into this film. Not because the content but the rotoscoping, it was just to disrracting for me. I think this would have been just as interesting just as a normally shot film.
Sure it would’ve been just as interesting (as there is a video showing the normally shot film w/o the rotoscoping) but the film looses the dream ambience as several times, it questions whether our main protagonist is dreaming or not. As you go through this surreal trip, questions of philosophy and random gibberish flows through the Dream-Austin, TX, in the form of characters that the protagonist meets through his life. Especially at the moments of waking up several times. If you wish to see better rotoscoping, look at the later film “A Scanner Darkly” as it shows what happens when you add a different visual idea to the story. I say, enjoy the trip.
