I really dig the stories that are connected to Jurgen Leitner. Also the beginning of the statement has some pretty cool lines about language and books in a broader sense. From a fiction writing standpoint I like the idea of language as a living being that literally lives in the minds of humans.
I just realized something, looking back at this episode. When Jon gets interrupted, Elias mentions the Lukas family and how theyre patrons of the institute. The Lukas family was the strange family of Evan Lukas' mentioned in the Alone episode.
I don't know if I hate or love comments from people rewatching it being all like "it's all coming together !" and whatever cryptic sentence under comments about John's voice acting. I'm frustrated that I don't understand what you are talking about but on the other hand, I want to know more thanks to all of you (and it helps me keep track of what is important to remember).
It helps a lot to learn why humans are freaked out by those sounds and how they make the sound effects that freak us out tbh. Sadly, I can't remember the details of why humans are freaked out by both very high and very low sounds together; I'll have to find the source for it again. As for the creepy music itself, the effect that sounds like quiet screeching metal or the sounds of exploring a shipwreck is just a violin bow on the edge of a large metal cymbal. I have had to remind myself of that a lot. "Don't get freaked out by the creepy shipwreck sound, self. You know that sound. You have /made/ that sound. You are a musician. You know how that sound works."
@@Rachel-fi4scah, i remember being in concert band and they had a HUGE.,,. Contraption? Just for this. Like, largest hunk of metal i had ever seen; oblong and shaped like a rounded cheese grater. Now, I'm no poetry expert, but if someone just walked up to me and told me that they took a marrow flute form someone's rib cage, I would be able to surmise that they'd stolen a rib. The Leitners are certainly a neat concept that TMA bring to the Horror table. Them being part of a soft magic system rather than holders of "kNoWLeDgE tHaT BRinGs mAdnEsS" specifically, since the latter is rather trite and more than a little ableist when handled poorly.
Alchemic Punk And when people do have mental breaks as the result of exposure to horrors, it’s almost always presented as PTSD, not some romanticized version of psychosis. As far as I can remember, when it looks like someone has broken with reality, either they’re in the grip of one of the entities, or they’re in touch with reality and it’s reality that’s broken.

(Was it red?) light. Did they kill Gertrude?
I love the shift in tone between narrator Jon and analyzing Jon. Almost makes it feel like 2 separate entities.
Entities? 😮
Everyone: talking about things they don't understand with Jon and his voice
(mild spoilers under the cut)
Meanwhile I'm cracking up about Jon's boss telling him not to upset the family of his sugar daddy husband lmao
I'm cackling. Relistening and I had to pause the episode like four different times when he broke character. Nice to know Elias and Peter were getting along at this point
2nd relisten, mild spoilers
that bit about martin being sick hits so differently knowing hes already hiding from prentiss and they wont know for like 10 more episodes. my boy's struggling im literally almost crying this podcast is making me feel so many things. also normal jared feels... weird. all i think of when i hear about him is the flesh garden....
I knew that Martin calling in sick was odd, but what’s this about the “prentiss”??
@@emgomez5863 you def shouldnt have read that if you dont know her. jane prentiss, worm wife, shes the main antagonist of season 1.
Jane Prentiss is first mentioned in ep. 6, Squirm.
@@klbzplbworm wife >:]
The way creepy jared is described really reminds me of the monster in across the street 😶
Me too… do you think it’s the same guy?
@sammy I think that Jared Key Presented here might be what has become out if our presented here Jared H.
@@midai8313 It's Gerard Keay, so I don't think that theory will work.
Is Jared an allegory to something or have any meaning tied to it, or did the creator of this podcast really hate a guy name Jared?
I was never afraid of spoilers, and now name Michael alarms me.
The whole flute deal just reminds me of the piper episode. I am a few years late to the series but im so unbelievably hooked on these. Im so glad im barley at the surface, this is my go to series now
Really late listener here but everyone talking about the interruption and recognizing names meanwhile I'm in shock that I just heard what I believe to be the piper gaining a new flute to play a "merry tune"
Holy shit. was passing one of those little free library boxes today, the take a book leave a book kind, and I found this big beautiful looking book called the Canterbury Tales and was like “wtf is this? Looks cool” and took it home, it is sitting on my coffee table right now. I’m listening at midnight and when I heard them say the book was the Canterbury Tales I looked up and realized it was my mystery book. I’m so freaked out right now
Did you read it ?
@@jazz5842 nope, but I kept it in case I wanna read later. Apparently it’s a very popular book so not as weird of a coincidence as I originally thought

Ow oof my bones.
As a wise, fellow man named Kronk once said:
"Oh yeah it's all coming together."
got full body chills at the mention of the "Scandinavian library"
Lmao I love how after being interrupted Jon took some time to properly get back into character 😂😂 so relatable
When the ominous music comes in, I can't help but be .. intimidated by it and freaked out
It helps a lot to learn why humans are freaked out by those sounds and how they make the sound effects that freak us out tbh.
I had to try and block its' sounds from my head during sections that used it because it was so loud and so grating. Hats off to the percussionist who had to play it, lol.
Jon: statement begins
*dramatic theatre music swells*
I forgot how Low Elias’ voice was in the begining compared to later appearances
As someone who owns rats, the image of the poor thing being mangled from the inside out terrified me
“That’s not how it works, Jonathan…”
Omg I KNEW it was going to be a Jurgen Leitner book ahhhh
im never really affected by these but "it was a closed casket funeral" for some reason just made my stomach turn
Did any of you guys notice how the rain was described in this episode-- still, falling heavily, no wind-- it matched the exact description of the rain described in episode 2, the one with the coffin which started singing during rain, and this has me excited because like the dates are around the same time too
when he said episode seventeen i thought he was gonna say “the SPREAD EAGLE” and then i realized i was thinking of chicago
I just started the series but this is my favorite episode so far! I love the world building in and out of the story. The call back to the library was great and the idea of the bone turner is so scary and fun! The ending was chilling as well!
Now, I'm no poetry expert, but if someone just walked up to me and told me that they took a marrow flute form someone's rib cage, I would be able to surmise that they'd stolen a rib. Also: Is no one gonna talk about how Elias was just casually discussing the Lukas family? I mean, they just showed up in an episode not too long ago.
That Michael guy has seen some weird stuff
I mean he's literally everywhere
Where have we seen him before?
@@trucetruce335 I belive he got struck by the lightning (idk if that's the same Michael though), he also found some bodies (etc. Alan the garbageman) and now he gave the books away
Actually now I am on episode 33 so I am even more interested in the "Michael guy" but oh well... These thoughts are spoilers :)
theres like 4 michaels in this series
@@icaruslukas7041 yep, I am finishing season 2 and there's a lot of Micheals already haha
Mike Crew.. He sure is odd
The mention of no intervention or containing made me wonder if there is anyone in this world who does that as someone who came here after spending a year diving deeply into SCP articles and tales.
I _already_ inexplicably hate Elias...
You might want to keep a hold of that
Yes, fester in your hatred, this is only the beginning
It's his overwhelmingly "corporate boss" voice

Hello, are you in love with him now? That seems to be a common theme. /j
Why is it that all ladies that run a library are called Ruth? Like

The lady that runs the village library is called Ruth

Wait the lady at my school who was in charge of the library was also called Ruth
(Here it's quite an uncommon name too)

Edit: Lol I used to mentally mock people who commented before finishing the video, share in my enthusiasm anyways.
Yes I noticed that too!!!! I just finished the episode and was scrolling to find someone like me who found it too!

So many aspects of this episode felt familiar so i went back to check in the page turner episode and look at this passage describing the second book mary keay handed Dominic Swain-
"I opened the book, and for a few seconds was confused to see that nothing seemed to have changed. The writing was still unintelligible to me and it felt no different. I lifted it to have a closer look, and as I did I heard something clatter lightly onto the floor. I looked down to see bones. Small animal bones, from what I can tell, but each one was slightly bent and warped into shapes that bones should not form". Dominics friends who btw as someone pointed below is the same person who returned this book to the Library
