Excellent video. Thanks! I just started modeling after a 40-year hiatus (haven't built one since I was a kid). I'm building a few of the older/cheaper classics to develop my skills and had just bought this one. You gave me some great ideas!
Hello mr.resmo!that is a quite nice boxart. The modell itself is more a fast dish.kits like that ones are great to introduce our little ones to scalemodelling. Your narration is no way boring.keep on going.and thank you for sharing. With sticky greetings from germany.your modelmate. Christian
Hey thank you christian! Thanks for watching and yes these little revell kits are just quick bunches of fun! Moving on to more detailed builds now that I have most of the Revell ones out of they way. But they are so nostalgic and great airplanes
Dinky? Little known fact the Dauntless was a very capable fighter once it's bomb load was deployed. Not a beast but more than enough to deal with what the Japanese were using including the famed Zero. The SBD's lost 103 of their during the war, while at the end they had downed more than 200 enemy fighters and bombers. Not a record setter but the SBD had a huge wing surface meaning it could out turn everything out there even the faster fighters and most not all of the SBD's lost were due to AA fire not fighter fire. She was a capable weapon that could serve a double duty after the bombing run when needed. Great build, this is a great Plane.
That was a absolutely outstanding build build sir, the colour and weathering, ame out perfectly, congratulations on a job very well done mate, bext regards from Australia and a Very Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year
2nd decal scheme is for RNZAF New Zealand Air Force, as a Kiwi that would have been nice to see. I Like the SBD, great history for that airplane and looks pretty cool.
I think the figures are better than the kit to be honest. Just the way I collect planes. I don't put any pilots in them. But I'm working on some figures now, we will see how they turn out lol
You have done a superb job on this old kit! I am very impressed by the growth of your channel! Any tips or suggestions? Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Drew
I have a couple of the older Revell Kits like this. They aren’t that bad actually. Currently working on a testors p51 mustang in 1/48. Merry Christmas 🎄
I actually currently have that sitting on my shelf as well. Weather lineup as bad as you did, but I’ve got another one in my stash that is going to be better and more Detailed the first one I did. This is one of my father’s favorite aircraft as well, I probably built 15 or 20 of them in my life.
I build them for my 3 yr old nephew and he plays with them. Sometimes they break and he loves to examine it to try to fix it. So much for him and I get to build them. 👍🏻
The bomb holder doesn't stay up so it just falls to the ground. If I put the torpedo on there it would be dragging on the ground. I didn't want to glue it if I wanted to hang it up one day. So I just opt3d not to do it lil
I built this kit a few months ago. Didn’t like the US Navy star decals either. Got a set of aftermarket decals. Much happier with how the insignia look.
Revell/monogram in which monogram made most of these aircraft kits.though some are toyish were kits ahead of there time.a whole lot better then most aroura and linburgs kits of that day.still great kits especially in there car kits which blows away amt, ertil and mpc when it comes to detail and fit...
I simply detest that grey patern in a dauntless. I love the navy blue-grey-white patern. Seeing that model, I feel a sad wasting of chance to it. GOOD VIDEO, anyway. Positive point!
When I first saw those US Star roundels provided, I thought that they looked like they were drawn by a 5 year-old. I did a little research and learned that the Navy had small roundels on their planes during the Battle of the Coral Sea (May 1942) and hurriedly had them all painted larger for the Battle of Midway (June 1942). They were done in a rush and many looked bad. I think that sloppy look may be what they were going for with the decals, but don’t know for sure. Either way, they look like they were made by a child and, even if that’s what it is, it looks bad and requires a lot of explaining.
I'm about to build one of these. i plan on a lot of scratch detailing and weathering etc. lots of paint chipping. oil stains etc. looking forward to it but the decals look rubbish. I would be better hand painting the effect they are looking for. I think I might source a new decal set online. it would annoy me to do all that work and then have the crappy decals. cheers lads
@@wildolan sadly, as I mentioned above, those decals are historically accurate for the month between the Battle of the Coral Sea and the Battle of Midway. They could have made them look better, though. I picked up some plain white & blue roundel decals at my hobby shop and used them. The Navy switched to these after Midway, so I figured “close enough.”
@@boatingexplainedwithcapndr8359 hi, If the actual planes looked hand painted or rushed. I was thinking it might be better to do some stencils and try painting myself. I haven't done stencil markings before but every model is a learning opp ☺️The decals really don't look good. your explanation was very interesting context, thanks for that

Great job on what I think is a great old kit. It was one of my favorites in the Monogram 1/48 line I built as a kid.
I cant wait to build a newer kit of the dauntless, but this is a classic revell kit

New sub, new modeler.
Excellent work RM. It really turned out beautifully....................

Thank you very much! Merry Christmas sir!!! Thank you for watching and you have a great new year as well!!
like an old 1970s model SBD. The bomb release, landing gear, dive flaps are movable.
2nd decal scheme is for RNZAF New Zealand Air Force, as a Kiwi that would have been nice to see. I Like the SBD, great history for that airplane and looks pretty cool.
Good job on a vintage kit. Too bad you didn't use the aircrew figures. Planes look better populated.
Bill
I think the figures are better than the kit to be honest. Just the way I collect planes. I don't put any pilots in them. But I'm working on some figures now, we will see how they turn out lol
I got that kit, great work.

Thanks! There's not enough time for crayppy kits! Lol model on and merry christmas!!
Outstanding video and presentation.
Thank you kindly!
Great and awesome job😮 and Hello from a french Channel 👍
Ngl, I got this model and absolutely hated it, glad to see someone make it workout.
This Monogram kit was first issued in 1959.
I have a couple of the older Revell Kits like this. They aren’t that bad actually.
Currently working on a testors p51 mustang in 1/48. Merry Christmas 🎄
Testers P51????? Dang! How far are you going with that one? Merry Christmas. Good luck on the p51. A great plane indeed!! Model on!

Nicely done. I see people use the decal for the non-slip walk-way up the wings. What are your thoughts on making and applying your own non-slip paint?
Now days I paint my own nonslip paint. Particularly for chipping effects and using a rubber black or flat black paint makes the sheen look better too.
@@scaleresurrectionmodeler7379 what materials do you like for the non-slip?
@@Brian-WolfmanJack99 I haven’t tried this yet, but I’ll bet that “Tire Paint” color (I think by Tamiya) would look good for non-slip paint.
The decals are for US and New Zealand aircraft. I'm always partial to how new Zealand aircraft looked during WW2.
nice job on another old clunker ... with all their moving parts, we built these old monogram kits and used them as toys.
I build them for my 3 yr old nephew and he plays with them. Sometimes they break and he loves to examine it to try to fix it. So much for him and I get to build them. 👍🏻
Well done sir
Why didn’t you install the bomb release it’s the best part about this model. Looks great by the way
The bomb holder doesn't stay up so it just falls to the ground. If I put the torpedo on there it would be dragging on the ground. I didn't want to glue it if I wanted to hang it up one day. So I just opt3d not to do it lil
It's a bomb though, not a torpedo.
Why do the US Stars look the way they do. I have never seen that before?
The decales try to imitate it as if they were painted on by the crew. It shows it in reference photos. Merry christmas!!

I didn't know that about car kits thanks for the info!! Model on!

This kit is the bane of my existence. So many gaps.
So many gaps!
Good kit. The most crappy decal sheet. Save it with better decals for a better aircraft example.
