    Hello Elizabeth, thank you so very much for this informative channel. I’ve been an RN for over 20 years and I am desperately looking for a change. This is right up my alley, I enjoy writing and have been told that I am very good at it. Of course I will need to learn all of the nuances that are associated with this profession, but I’m extremely hopeful and convinced that I can do very well making this transition in careers. God bless you and thanks again. I look forward to many more videos.

    Hi Elizabeth, I came across your video after browsing the internet (snooping for sales) and this sounds like the calling I've been so anxiously waiting for. I've been a nurse for several years, with most of my interest in women's health. I am honestly desperately trying to get out of working within healthcare organizations. The long hours, the drama associated with it has landed me in a place that I want to forget about. I am not quite understanding how I would get into making website blogs for clients, but with my history of enjoying writing and being told I should write books, I felt inclined to pursue this pathway. I am an MSN Ed., RN and I currently teach nursing clinicals part-time at a college. I think my experiences and knowledge would make me a great candidate for medical freelance writing. I am currently having trouble getting to full-time status as nursing enrollment has been at such a decline. I am unsure how to present myself or who to present or offer services to. I have never heard of this before I saw your TH-cam video, but a lightbulb came on when I saw it. I asked myself, "is this really true? Is this my niche jumping right in my face?" I am asking for help in where to start as I am a hands-on learner. I have a website where I make and sell crafts, so I know I have tools to be successful at freelance writing, but not sure where to use them correctly. Any help would be greatly appreciated for me to start my dream job! Having a decent income while working from home and enjoying myself. Thank you for what you do, Elizabeth. It's nice that someone is out there who has the same goals.

    Hi Elizabeth, you are an inspiration! I have been looking into nurse writing for a while. I've been a Registered Nurse for 10+ years, but would like to spend more time at home with my children. Do the hours spent writing count toward the nursing hours necessary to renew your license?

    Awesome! What reliable sources do you use for research/writing? Where do you post that you're available for projects? Upwork? Linkedin?

    • @RN2writer
      @RN2writer  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Ash! Oh, please don’t use platforms like Upwork. That’s a sure path to making virtually no money at this! 😁 Freelance writing is a relationship industry, so look for folks you’d like to write for and approach them. That’s the best way. In terms of reliable sources, we recommend publicly available resources like NIH websites, major research institutions, major nonprofits, etc. You can learn a lot more about how this industry works in our ebook, “Design Your Dream Career as a Nurse Writer,” which you can grab here for just $5.90. ~Beth go.RN2writer.com/dydc

    Is it possible to leave nursing jobs and become a full time writer? What if as the years pass you do not have the expertise to write on certain topics?

    • @RN2writer
      @RN2writer  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jonathan! Yes, it’s definitely possible to transition away from patient care and into FT writing. In fact, we teach precisely that in our Nurse-to-Writer Bridge Program: RN2writer.com/bridge You don’t need subject matter expertise to write on various topics; you only need to be able to conduct basic background research and interview subject matter experts. Again, these are all the things we teach in our programs. 😁 ~Beth

    I love your show Elizabeth! Just a question - you didn't mention research time. How much research time would the average be for an article that you write in an hour? Also what kind of typing speed is that??

    • @RN2writer
      @RN2writer  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Teresa! Thank you for the kind words. So glad you’re loving the show! I think your question is referring to a video we offer - “How I Make $400 an Hour as a Nurse Writer” - that is exclusively available with the ebook purchase. (So if someone is reading this and would like to get that video, head to the link for the ebook in the description box.)
      The research time required for any given piece is going to vary tremendously depending on a wide range of factors: Is it a topic I already know fairly well? Do I have to interview SMEs? How long and involved is the piece? However, everything you see in that video is everything I did for that article. There was no additional research performed before or after I shot that video. What you see is what I did. 😁 (I did about 10 minutes of self-editing after-the-fact.)
      In terms of typing speed, I think I’m probably around 65wpm. Learning touch typing is an easy way to increase your efficiency (and hourly rate!). 😁

    Hi Elizabeth, did you present the contract to the client or did the client present you with a contract? In other words, how much control do you have over the terms of your contracts?

    • @RN2writer
      @RN2writer  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Excellent question, and the answer is: It depends. Sometimes, I offered my own contract. Other times, the client offered me a contract. Either way, I always attempted to negotiate the most favorable terms for my own business (just as the client was trying to negotiate the most favorable terms for themselves).

    How much time do you spend on marketing and admin?

    • @RN2writer
      @RN2writer  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Danielle! I spent more time on marketing when I was getting my business rolling (maybe 7 hours a week?) and much less once I started working with steady clients that gave me assignments on a monthly basis (at that point, I marketed maybe a couple of hours a month). Administrative time is very low in freelancing. ~Beth

      Hi Valerie! The short answer: Years of experience. 😀 I mean, that's true of any profession, right? Your efficiency as a nurse improved with experience, and your efficiency as a writer will do the same. I certainly did not come out of the gate writing articles in an hour! Practice, practice, practice. Fortunately, I cover a lot of this in my Complete Guide to Content Marketing Writing 12-week coaching program (which happens to come with a comprehensive course, as well!): go.rn2writer.com/webinar-registration ~Beth

      I've been in nursing since the '60's. One of the dinosaurs, a hospital trained, diploma R.N. I always felt that my training was absolutely the best. When we graduated, we were ready to, " hit the ground runnung", so to speak. Spending the last 6 months of our training, doing patient care, just as if we were already practicing our profession, made it much easier, once we were G.N."s, then R.N.'s. I always thought that I would continue in my profession, until I couldn't, physically. However, best laid plans, etc. One day I was the night charge nurse on a 43 bed, Comprehensive Medical floor, the next day, zip was fighting for my life, following a near deadly assault, which took me some time to recover. When I was ready to return to work, still capable, and highly skilled, I discovered that age prejudice does exist! I've missed practicing the profession I trained for, and over the years, became highly skilled in many different disciplines, within our profession. In my position as charge nurse, I often had the opportunity to precept new nurses, just starting out. I really enjoyed passing on skills I had learned, sometimes by trial and error, hoping that nurses new to the craft might not have to struggle to find the easiest and best technique to place an IV, draw off a central line, or give a particular treatment. I was working toward my BSN, but was no longer financially able to continue.
      I've always liked to write, and love to read, but often find myself correcting punctuation, spelling, or syntax errors. It seems that a lot is either being missed, in the final proofread, or mistakes are just more acceptable, these days. I stumbled onto the idea of looking into copy editing and proofreading, as a way to supplement my, less than satisfactory income, and thought that freelancing might be the way to start out. I have taken several advanced writing classes, as credits toward my BSN, and just began to wonder if I could do medical copy editing and proofreading, and perhaps, even some writing. I just happened to see your show, while looking for information on You Tube, about copy editing and proofreading. You mentioned something about having seminars or classes, at a special rate, and I was very interested, but when I tried to find the information, I was unable to do so. Could you, please, give me that information. If I can afford it, I'd love to take it. I may, however, have to wait and do it after I've made a little money. So glad I found your site. I'm really excited to get started. I have to invest in a better computer. Don't think I can do it on this very old 8 gig, Samsung tablet!
      Thank you, Renee' Cooper R.N.
