The AMUR FALCON Spectacle | A Raptor Like No Other & the RUTHLESS SIDE of Bird Photography

  • Every winter, millions of Amur Falcons migrate from their breeding grounds in southeastern Siberia and northern China, all the way to southern Africa. They make India a temporary layover to replenish their energy reserves, before continuing the long journey over the Arabian Sea. I visited the Sahyadris of Western India to document this spectacle.
    At a round trip of 22,000 kms, the Amur Falcons are one of the longest migratory raptors in the world. Some argue that they might even be THE longest migratory raptor. This claim, however, awaits further tracking data.
    This video also features the SONY A7R IV & 200-600mm zoom lens by Accord Equips.

    Special thanks to Lansothung Lotha for the Nagaland congregation shot and to Sushant Jadhav for the shot with the Wagtail kill.

    18:15 - Falcon eating a hawk moth caterpillar, making big eyes at the falcon made no difference. Love the way they hop around on the ground, never seen this bird before. Thank you for showing us animals in our country most have never seen or heard of before.

    Hey Kenneth, I’m the guy walking across you in the green tee at 1:30 , I share your frustration, and evidently, we share a lot of shots too. Because some of the shots that you have featured in here, I was just editing. That car behind the lavender fields also disturbed my shot. A lot of what you said traces my feelings about the state of wildlife photography here, perfectly. I also had my car stuck stiff at about the same spot you did. Your story telling is apt, precise and natural. I hope we share an outing the wild or two. Good luck with your sightings ahead mate. I truly love what you do. - Hrishi. 🙏👌

    I’ll sub and follow you ASAP.

      Thanks, Hrishi. The fields aren't Lavender, they're an endemic wild flower called Pogostemon Deccanensis.

    I've just begun my photography journey at the young age of 60, but have been a lover of wildlife all my life. I may be cynical, but nothing about people's selfishness surprises me these days. All they care about is their snapshot of a beautiful creature that they should feel privileged to share this planet with. How would they like it if a crowd of animals invaded their home, raided their larder then crowded together to take photographs of them day after day.

    • @vikaskokae
      @vikaskokae ปีที่แล้ว

      Who draws the line Carl? There could be someone who could Kenneth on the spot too for violations that should have obviously been avoided. But we continue to revel in our own ignorance. As per my idea of an avid wildlife enthusiast, firstly consider the opportunity to be a privilege and next treat your journey as a pilgrimage. There cannot be anything sacred than that for you. But pilgrimages are meant to be done without comforts, drawing out all virtues like respect, dedication, patience, resilience etc. We got to fix that in our head. The harder the struggles the deeper the longing. Isn't it about you but not the bird?

    Great narration & documentation !!! ...& great message to budding wildlife photographers who only focus on the bird or animal ..not realising the damage they do to the surroundings , thoughtlessly squashing the insects & vegetation !!! Damn !!! ....this hobby is becoming more of an entertainment & ego trip for most , lacking sensitivity towards environment & knowledge of their subject or wildlife conservation .!!! .Thankyou for being sensitive !!!

    Hey Kenneth.. having only just discovered your channel I'm catching up on all your previous videos... stunning images and footage as usual..!! It is a depressing fact that along with the easier access both to high end camera equipment and to wildlife locations that wildlife photography is becoming more of a "contact sport" than a pursuit to be more in touch with and informed by nature. Hopefully videos like yours will educate people not just in common courtesy to each other but in awareness and respect to the animals they are trying to photograph. I hope that some responsible authority sees your video and restricts both motorized and pedestrian traffic to what is without question a significantly important habitat for these beautiful falcons.. the destruction of their foraging area and the disturbance to them is unforgiveable given all the natural challenges they already face. Ansel Adams is attributed with the famous expression..." Take only photographs.. leave only footprints" this should now be adjusted to .."take only photographs and don't leave even a broken blade of grass".. all the best to you... g
