    So I've played around a lot with ATC auto throttle control for landing and it works with full flaps. The trick is to trim on speed first for full flaps and then engage atc. The velocity vector drops significantly, which you should already be correcting by pulling the stick back. Once the vector indicator starts going up you have to catch it or you'll start climbing. Only minimal stick adjustments after this and you have to constantly adjust. After doing it couple times, I can say it works and is very helpful.

    I'm just now exploring the ATC system....... as you said at 3:50 you have to restrain the urge to go hands-on throttle. I thought of Terrain-Following Radar in the F-111........ at night........ being the first pilot to engage the TFR and trust it, hands off. I've only recently come to learn the automatic carrier takeoff of the F-18....... touch those controls and SPLASH.......... !!!!!!!
    Thanks, doc!!! Great tutelage every time.

    What in the fresh hell! I have been manually screwing with the throttle for several landings and chasing the E-Bracket everywhere. Now I want to check this out.

      You never have to chase the E bracket if you trim it out correctly and don't get crazy slow or crazy fast

      You're supposed to land full flaps usually.

      I think it actually makes it harder since you're supposed to use throttle instead of pitch on carrier landings to stay on the glide slope.

    the braking system for the f18 is so slow. I feel it is easier to land on a carrier because it takes the stress away of running off the runway.

    • @theTutenstien
      @theTutenstien 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah it takes ages to slow down. I cant land on short runway unless I touchdown really early otherwise i cant get it slow down

      aero brake, it helps

    • @TealJosh
      @TealJosh 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Quick thumb rules to break after landing: -Don't land too heavy, the heavier you are the longer runway you'll need. -Always land to the assinged runway number, this means you'll land on upwind, meaning against the wind -Increase AOA while idle throttle just before touch down without tail striking, this will stall the aircraft & decrease ground speed. -Once all wheels are on runway pull the stick back and engage full air break. -At 75 ground speed begin carefully breaking with toe breaks, this is also good time to enable nose wheel steering.

    not for carrier ladings will need to what till ACL is implemented then it will use Radar controlled landing at the boat. This if for when you touch the deck AB does not engage fast enough if you bolter

    • @firemedicjm911
      @firemedicjm911 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      When you touch the deck, then you need to take throttle control and put it into AB. I have had no problems getting back off the deck in a bolter situation where I used ATC to land. It is awesome.
