Well all ive been hearing (and not trying to start a flame war) is that the lions have been lucky not to play any NZ sides this year, but I also remember commenting about 3 weeks ago that the NZ sides could be considered lucky not to have played the lions!
All that aside though I think its important to realise that the Lions put 6 tries on the Canes. Now for the Crusaders, nevertheless I think the Lions can be happy with what they achieved after having been kicked out of the competition about 5 years ago.

At RWC 2015, the best competition in New Zealand's pool was Argentina, ceded 8th in world rugby. They did not have the so-called pool of death that kept England out of the final stages. Would it be fair to then say that New Zealand did not deserve the win or is it a case of 'luck of the draw'? Now apply that to the Lions, taking into account their overall results against New Zealand opponents last year. Case closed.
New Zealand played and beat all teams to take the trophy, England was extremely poor in that WC and South Africa beat Argentina to 3rd plays while losing to NZ narrowly to fall out. To be fair despite a poor start SA and NZ were probably the two strongest teams in that WC, but they beat us so its fair to say they deserved it, they also hammered the only other real challengers the Wallabies.
You are missing my point, which was that they had no real competition in the pool stages compared to, say England, yet still made it to the final stages. This is trying to back up your point of "competition format blaming". We have heard on so many other videos and forums about how the Lions do not deserve to play in the semis blah blah so I was merely drawing a parallel.

All the complaining about the yellow card and some tries that should not have been allowed while not a word has been said about the Ardie Savea try which should have been a penalty to the Lions instead. The Hurricanes player interfering with Ross Cronjé which results in him losing the ball forward, was not bound to the ruck and came from a completely offside position, he's almost waiting on the Lions' side of the ruck! What happened to coming from behind the last feet?

It all goes in the preliminary rounds based on who is playing where ? strategically this does not suit all teams, and this conference system proved to be a disaster. Fairness in the sport of Rugby in South Africa is a disaster as well. The Referee will always be wrong in the view of the screen spectator who is in a better position to view all angles of the game, but the Linesmen and especially the TMO should be playing more of a role in informing the Referee of all his bad decisions immediately. A Chief's try was disallowed due to TMO intervention, any further incidents ?- the same TMO said nothing ?, and this inconsistent decision making is what upsets the whole fairness of the game.
The Lions has proved in two years running that they are our leading Super Rugby side in South Africa, I hope Ellis Park is " Chokka Block" Full on Saturday for the Final.

Go back to 0:52 in the video. Look at Savia coming from an offside position from the side. The ref did not blow that. Was that biased? Was he pro SA there? You need to be good enough that the ref cannot cause you to loose even if he is against you. That is why the Lions won. The ref was poor for both sides.
Anyway, here in SA Jaco Peyper has a reputation for favouring NZ sides. We don't like him much.

The fact that you are European is not the point, there are enough Kiwis who share your sentiment today that my comment still stands. While I am happy to admit that referees have played a role in deciding certain games, I saw little wrong with Peyper that was in any way biased towards one team.
