      Thank you, but don't put me on a pedestal anytime soon! I'm just a quilter who has put in plenty of practice and shares what I've learned. Have you taken a look at my Craftsy classes? Here's a link: www.craftsy.com/ext/AmyJohnson_classes

    I don't know how this video came up on my feed, I have no interest in quilting and know nothing about it. But I do know craftsmanship, skills, experience and quality when I see it. You woman, you are amazing!

    Thank you so much! I really loved learning how to tie off and bury the knot. Now to go about finding that needle.

    Thank you Amy you are so sympathetic for beginners like myself. You know it is very reassuring to notice that experienced ruler quilters with a ruler foot, let us see the decision making part of their work, the hesitations and why they occur. It is very inspiring to go on and persevere in achieving more expertise at this beautiful art of machine quilting with rulers. I will visit the Craftsy site for more information on your videos.

    Using a piece of plastic with a wet or dry erase pen over your quilt gives you the option of "testing" without committing to a design. I learned this technique many years ago and it has saved me lots of "unsewing".

      +Nancy Sumner Yes, I've done that a bunch with a large sheet of plexiglass, but that's harder to manage when working with rulers too.

    I too have taken the quilting class, thank you for that, wish there was more of the tools available in the UK. The one selling from Amazon at the moment is £187

    The class on Craftsy was wonderful! I just wish it was closed captioning like this. But I’m happy to have it. Thank you for doing it.

      Thank you Sandy. I'm trying to make use of the closed captioning and checking it too to make sure it's correct more often.

    Your stitches are so perfect! I'm in awe. Try as I might, I can't seem to keep my HV Huskystar foot pedal at a regular, slow speed. That seems to be a large part of any potential success.

    Hi Amy, I've taken your Craftsy class and loving it and working with rulers! I've got a Westalee set for one of my machines, but thinking of getting this Janome foot set for my other 1600p machine, (although Westalee makes a foot that would fit it too) which leads me to ask you some questions. 1) if while using the Janome ruler foot you decided to switch to another toe in the same foot set easily enough while you're quilting, i.e., switching from ruler work to free-motion work, would it be easy enough to switch out? Also, 2) does the Janome ruler foot have the same 1/4" radius like the Westalee foot? I ask that because I wonder if the templates will work interchangeably, especially one like the 6" spiral which has that hook style that the foot sits inside. Thanks in advance for our thoughts!

    • @AmyQuilts
      @AmyQuilts  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am so sorry that I hadn't seen your question before this! Sometimes the notifications miss me I guess. Yes, the Janome foot is fabulous, same foot size (I do believe Westalee would point out a 3/1000's of an inch difference. Close enough in my book! It hasn't made any difference.) The Janome shank needs to be taken off the machine and then switch out the toes, unless you're a good contortionist. I usually work with the ruler foot on these days unless shooting a video where I'm not using rulers, or doing teeny tiny fills.

    For a beginner would it be easier to see your sewing with a clear or open toed foot?

    What kind of machine do you have !

  • @TheMinot60
    @TheMinot60 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    My arthritic hands aren’t good at tugging needles any more, and even strong young hands might find it faster easier to grip and pull a needle with some little jewelry pliers. They also work great for pulling stitches when seam ripping.

      That's the Janome Convertible Free Motion foot set (shank) with the Ruler foot from the Frame Quilting Foot Set attached. See my blog at www.amysquiltingadventures.com for more info on this foot combination.

    Maybe a half feather would have looked nice?

    • @AmyQuilts
      @AmyQuilts  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +C Fleyfel I was thinking of feathers for a bit, but felt that would introduce a whole new element to the block that was already getting pretty busy. A nice thing about the paisley fill is that it looks busy when you're up close, but it flattens out to a great overall texture at a normal viewing distance.
