I like how Chapters like the Soul Drinkers actually justify the suspicion and paranoia of the Inquisition towards Space Marines falling to Chaos, it can happen even if the Chapter is almost completely loyal just by taking a few missteps or not fully understanding a situation.
Orrr... The Astral Claws incident. Pure loyalist, experts even among astarte, defenders of the Imperium. Many great achievements and honors. Well one day they decided to rose above the maximum, by a small number of 5 000 marines. Making them a micro legion, than rebel. Hence the Badab war. It's honestly surprising they were able to get this much marine together. However such forces are very hard to put down and leaves other sectors entirely undefended. This is why a full blown Blood Raven Chapter is a problem. Relic items going all around, with an exceptionally large Astarte Psycher force. They are not just Zelous, but also vicious battle hardened veterans who broke chaos forces many times. Not many chapter can stand up against them. If they go Chaos, Emperor help you.

The moment they start to act like an imperial guard instead of a commando, there isn't any much that can stop them. At best the mechanicum can try to blast their ships apart before they get boarded. Don't forget the Astarte was strong enough to threathen everyone, Mars included, into the Imperium. They are very very dangerous. Legions like the alpha legion didn't work by clean battle either. The Imperial Guard might have millions of soldiers, but the astarte can behead them and pretty much scatter them.

Their numbers are huge. Unless other Astarte Chapters join against them or the Custodes are sent, the Inquisition can't really do anything anymore. Luckily the Black Templars are not really corruptable. That would be a stab the Imperium would probably not recover from.

Why would the Inquisition go after one of the few chapters that actually worship the Emperor like a God? To be fair to the Emperor's Children, they only really fell when the magnificent bastard Fabius Bile rewired their brains to connect the pain receptors to the pleasure center of the brain. They would have been perfectly Loyalist had Fulgrim not grabbed the Laer Blade and had Fabius Bile not existed.

I love the Soul Drinkers books but the setup is beyond silly. The whole thing relies on Sarpedon, who is a Librarian, not recognising that some cultists who worship the Architect of Fate and Sarpedon, who is a Librarian, listening to their leader, taking everything he says at face value _and then_ appointing him as his spiritual advisor. Have I mentioned that Sarpedon *is a fucking Librarian?* He should recognise one of the more common names of Tzeentch when he hears it. I mean it's as if Astartes Librarians know a thing or two about Chaos or something...

You seriously think that theory their geneseed was replaced by chaos is more likely than Soul Drinkers being originally members of II or XI legion? Corrupting geneseed like that is too far even for Tzeench, I bet they are descendants of 2th or 11th legion, and that’s why they were not related to Dorn and easier to mutate than any other Imperial fist chapter.
