    Loved writing is like driving. "What's your destination?" It's one of those things you know, but when you hear it it's like Ohhh 😲 lol thanks Joanna.

    I just tried the method of writing down what's going to happen in the scene before writing the scene. Amazing!

    Lol I was totally one of those people that signed up for the mailing list for the short story, and when I received the email for the new book I opened it immediately and bought the book right away. Also I really appreciate how you keep your promise to only email when new books come out. It really did feel like the best surprise present.

    Mind dumping can be a waste of time if you have no writing education, because then the editing can become overwhelming.

    Yes! John Truby was also my plotting sensei. It really helped me lay the groundwork for the first book in my series and continue on to the sequential books. I recommend it to all my writer friends at cons. Nice to see another Truby evangelist :)

    The analogy of writing & driving is terrific! Also pointing out that writing is not a performance art is fantastic advice. So many writers who are struggling spend all their time second guessing their work as if someone is looking over their shoulder. Terrific interview!

    Loving this author! I'm a new author and have plotted my new book the exact way she describes. Thought I was doing it wrong. Glad to know someone as successful as she is does the same thing. Makes me realize, I'm on the right path. :)

    Love her! So much positive energy. Haha! Now I'm curious about her books. Sadly, I can't write as quickly as she does and out-put perfect sentences. Great points about how to use mailing lists & marketing metrics. Thanks so much for this interview. This vid's definitely worth rewatching in future. :D

    Good show! I am still a newbie, and my writing system is in development, but my system in development is very similar to Rachel's fast writing system. Glad to know I am not the only author who is favoring the fast writing track. :-)

    I had mentioned in another post about being a unique brand of author that doesn’t follow the “author rules.” One thing that Rachel mentioned was writing better because she has notes of what she is having done in the scene is another way I don’t “follow the rules”. I do have outlines for stories that need them (characters meeting and things being done on certain days) but I don’t have specific outlines for the smaller details. I tend to write with an end in mind, but the story writes itself. I add a lot of scenes that I didn’t know I was going to put in my book, for instant I wrote a tsunami scene that was never intended, but as I wrote, it just came out and works well with the scene. I am pretty sure I already mentioned in another post, but I feel this works for me....ready for the Jesse freak stuff....is that I pray before Every writing session and I believe God writes it with me....even the “non-Christian” writing.

    Joanna, what you just said about people complaining about KDP and Amazon. I feel the same. Like anyone can publish anything in this big huge store called Amazon and make money. No qualifications, no experience needed.
    What are these people complaining about?
    There are a lot of writers who are making double the money they made in their boring day job. Others are making 10 times more.

    • @AdeleCeleste
      @AdeleCeleste 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not like a magic money machine. It takes time and trial and error. Some books will sell and some won't. Not everyone is successful.

    • @mical7582
      @mical7582 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I never said books sell automatically. I'm saying there are a bunch of authors who complain about Amazon all the time and they are given an opportunity to sell their books in this huge store and no one is asking for them to have a qualification or to have any prior experience.
      I know there is lots of work to do such as editing, book covers, promoting, advertising and so on but anyone can create a book in a few hours and put it on Amazon
      If we couldn't sell our books on Amazon anymore and reach millions of customers, we'd find it a little harder to earn money.
      Stop complaining about Amazon.

    The girl in the glasses is totally write.
    I am a writing genuis, but mostly a poet with steady writing success (including award winning) and I always write my poems with already having some of the outline prepared. I pace myself when I write and I don't edit the work on the day it was 1st written.
    You struggle with what happens in part of your writing it is often because you do not have an outline, you didn't do a little sketch of the entire story, you don't have enough writing education. Bill Collins said becoming a better writer.
    One thing I want to say that quality is what matters. There is no needs to say I wrote ten books, if they are not superb, not just good. Each one of my poems make people WOW and they are speechless or want to talk on and on about how much it moved them. I care not about quantity but quality. I would rather one big bestseller book, with superb work, then bunch of books that still need work on months later, to make superb. I teach writing on my channel as well.

    Joanna, I love your videos and many of them have helped me to ramp up my book sales. A loyal Creative Penn viewer, however, could get the impression that only white people write books. So, if you would ever want to do a podcast that talks about adding diversity to your books, as a black, best selling, bisexual-romance author, who has 39 audiobooks, over 200 translations, over 300 stories published and a TH-cam channel, I would love to chat. :-)

    • @happymaskedguy1943

      Yeah, that was a pretty ugly attempt at self promotion, using someone else’s platform to simultaneously insult them. I’m surprised you even received a response, let alone such a polite one.
      Stick to your own TH-cam channel.
