its amazing that arcane hand can be moved and take one of its actions as a bonus action, meaning its even more of an upgrade over things like Earthen Grasp

I like Wall of Force better but the benefit of Stone over Force is the Wall of Force can be seen through and many spells can be cast by you, that originate from a different spot, not to mention Misty Step

Steel Wind Strike, Temporal Shunt, Transmute Rock.

I'm surprised no mention of Rary's Telepathic Bond. A ritual that gives your party telepathy for an hour is incredibly useful for infiltration missions, or dungeon crawls in general. Especially if you split the party.
It also alleviates some of the problems with tabletop metanarrative where the players are discussing plans, but the characters would be arguing about what to do out loud. Granted this is a table-by-table thing.

Yeah, I like all that in theory, but it's hard to get excited about a spell that just justifies what's going on at the table anyway.

I definitely think you are overvaluing save or suck spells. At 5th level, I do not want to waste a whole turn and high level slot to do nothing 40% of the time. Also, dominate person is very table dependent as many tables just don’t fight a ton of humanoids by 9th level. I’d add telepathic bond as another commenter mentioned, synaptic static as a great follow up to any control spell, telekinesis as it does a lot of what bigbys hand does and is hard for most creatures to resist, transmute rock for situationally the best non concentration control until forcecage, and planar binding for absolutely breaking the game in half. It’s still a top tier spell if you don’t abuse it though.

I don't want to waste a turn either, but I'm often willing to take the gamble for the potential of a big enough payoff.

yea, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but with a 5th level spell, I want it to work close to 100% of the time :)
Wall of Force and Wall of Stone, work 100% of the time
Synaptic Static works and has an awesome effect
Telekinesis you in essence get as many tries as you can within the 10 minutes

Additional benefit of wall-of-stone, can't see through it.

Yeah, I guess that's worth something if you need to go to the bathroom.
