“A society grows great when old men plant trees in whose shade they shall never sit.” I’d say you are helping to build a great society. May you live to sit in their shade for many years and continue your TH-cam channel, too.
The humor in these videos makes them my favorite TH-cam channel. Philip...you are a star of humor! And Anna...we love you for your talents and patience with it all.
I have watched all 93 videos in your playlist over the last few weeks (!!) and take my hat off to you and Anna for still smiling after all the hard labour, trials and decisions. The restoration is fabulous, well done! You are both extremely creative and multi-talented. I am looking forward to seeing the long houses, stables and chapel restore to their former beauty...And the garden is going to be stunning as it comes to life this summer. All the best from Dorset, UK.
Once everything has been cleaned up it would be nice to have a drone shot of the property with a talk over of what you have done. Looks fabulous and great specimens!! With the property you have Philip, having a plant addiction can be totally understood. I wonder if there is a "plant anonymous" group anywhere? lol!!
Yes, it will be lovely to see it all sorted out. I'm sure you are mapping and labeling,,that's part of addiction you know,,,keeping track of all this!! 😆
My grandpa also named all the plants, including the latin names. He also planted rare plants too. It's awsome. It helped me a lot with biology at school, & I become plants lovers too
Hello Phillip. Welcome to the club. I am also an addict, but for me it is for flowering plants. Annuals, perennials, shrubs, trees, it makes no difference to me. I can hear their voices "I will be so pretty every spring." or "I flower in high summer. How pretty is that!" "Oh you will be able to see my pretty flowers from the second floor windows!" "Buy me." Lovely little flower elf voices. Even better if those flowers are replaced by something edible, soft and sweet and bright colored. So here I am this spring, contemplating where in the world will I plant four different varieties of raspberries. I feel for your confusion over your addiction, brother. You are not alone.
@@loloholmes2793 Oh yes. 💞 Hydrangea come in a perfectly beautiful shade of peach that's rare except for tea roses and once in a great while in snap dragons. But the snaps are such wantons. They'll cross breed with any handsome devil and you never know what you'll get in the offspring. 😽
Phillip you continue to entertain us in such a fun way, you make me laugh! Your dry humour while you confess your addiction is spot on! Glad you got the holly tree trimmed as well as some the 40 planted. We have snow here in British Columbia as well....makes me question what is happening to our world! Well, thanks to Phillip and his tree addiction, he will be bringing in more oxygen to your part of the world! Go Phillip!
Wow, after an afternoon of planting and transplanting rhododendrons, a camellia, and some smaller insect friendly plants, my back and knees were tired! So I went to my fav tree nursery, just for a coffee 🙈🙈🙈 suddenly there were six more shrubs and a Japanese maple in my car! Just to watch you with a very similar addiction! Well done! 👏🏻🥰
Plant addiction is real. A decade ago, I purchased one cactus... now I have over 500. Love how your garden is coming along. I only wish I had that much space to work with.
Dear Philip, It takes guts to confess your addiction. That's the first step. Keep in mind; the more you say no to those talking trees, the more money you'll have put away for that dream boat! Stay strong! ♥
The trees 🌳 know their brethren were or will be destroyed for a boat. They aren't Elfs but Ents: Tree Shepherds (re Lord of the Rings). They are purposefully possessing Phillip to enable their survival. Clever Trees 🌳 👌 😀 👏
Love, all the ornamental trees. If I had an addiction, Phillip, this is the one I’d choose. You crack me up…still watching you and Anna’s antics from PA, USA.
Philip, your bravery is truly inspiring. Admitting an addiction as serious as this, to all your followers, is a profile in courage. Especially since you do the majority of the work at the chateau, while those around you steal the spotlight and get all the credit.
Once again, I love your sense of humour. It probably helps considering the amount of work you two are doing! How beautiful the landscape will look once the trees mature.🇨🇦
You are so funny. You and your family are lovely and I look forward to every new experience with you. Might add, you have done an incredible job on your house and grounds. Love your filming!!
Apart from loving the humor in your videos (top notch) the music is so wonderful. Please don’t ever change from your delightful classical (well, baroque!) regimen!
C'est une formidable addiction!!Votre parc est de plus en plus beau !!Et à chaque période de l'année il sera différent, avec ses couleurs de saison!! Bravo pour tout le travail !!
While i watched this video i understood why i feel so calm and happy when i watch your content. Whatever happens in the world, two of you keeping build beautiful life. Planting trees, doing renovations with so much love and care to history. It helps to find and feel support in instability. This is what people should do. Keep going. I admire you . Thank you.
I feel you. I'm addicted to rescuing plants, plants nobody wants to buy, plants thrown away but still whispering with their tiny voices. My appartment ist a plant rehabilitation center and I'm not sure wish void I want to fill... at least they fill my lungs with oxygene and my heart with joy.
Funny, I live in Spokane Wa. This winter has much reflected yours! Never ending… your spring projects are so awesome and hot chocolate from your recently renovated kitchen would be my choice here. The girls are so precious and I bless your family for sharing. Lol… plant away!
I enjoy your videos so much. And Philipp, I just love your sense of humor!!! I am so impressed with you both and how much you've accomplished. You are simply amazing. Please don't ever stop posting. Best wishes to you and yours.
I don't watch your videos on a weekly basis but whenever I feel down and sad I know that Phillip will most definitely cheer me up. And withought failing your videos always do make me smile. Thanks
You're not the only one who has a plant addiction. Our lot is much smaller, but it's filled with lots of plants - particularly edibles like haskap (honeyberries), plum, cherry, apple and pear trees, wine and table grapes, raspberries, strawberries, etc. Then there are the new flowering shrub varieties every year. What can an addict do but keep adding more? 🙂 BTW, we have a mature Manchurian cherry (amur chokecherry or prunus maackii) that is about 28 years old with a beautiful smooth bark like the one you planted. The bark peels off, too. It's a wonderful tree for shade as well. Hope you enjoy yours for years to come!
Philipp, you could have worse addictions. Plants, trees and flowers and working in the garden will keep you young and healthy. Enjoy every minute designing beds, planting, transplanting and making your gardens a place to enjoy. The trees are beautiful and will get more beautiful as the years go by. Keep up the great work, xx
You guys did a spectacular job! A big warm thank you to Jerome and his crew for helping with all the planting. The grounds of the chateau are really starting to sparkle. I know you look forward to spending lots of quality time in the garden with the girls, family, and friends when the warm weather finally returns. Hope you all have a wonderful week ahead! 💚💚💚
Yes, I too have this. Not just trees though. Yes, they talk to me as well. I'm too old now, for this obsession, I'm a senior and disabled now. Lovely to watch the younger set and how they get on with their lovely trees and plants.
I hope you took the metal netting of the root ball. It doesn’t rust away and prevents proper root development. The TH-cam channel Garden Answer list a huge Spruce tree last summer. 30 years old, heathy, beautiful, blown over in a storm. The roots still trapped in the metal cage.
There is no spring yet at my place, but it’s so inspiring to see spring happening elsewhere - your beautiful dream garden coming to life, birds singing and etc ❤
Dear Phillip- you are an inspiration. Because of your bravery I too can admit to having a plant buying addiction. I definitely hear the trees and plants talking inside my head. Finally I can admit to my problem!
Love that Phillip loves his garden and the trees talk to him with their little tree voices… made me giggle. The garden is going to look amazing as these trees begin growing and leaf out each year. Weather is just crazy everywhere. These guys pressed in regardless of the weather. Well done. Good filming Too Anna. ❤❤❤
You can never have too many trees but you might want to make a little plan for all the shade you are creating. I love that you are using wood chips to improve and protect the soil. I think I am living vicariously through you!!
Oh Philipp, my aunt had a plant addiction also. After she came home from the nursery with a number 1 and 5 gallon plants, she would quickly plant them all over her garden and would ask my mother to take away the the empty containers so my uncle wouldn’t see them. When my uncle saw a plant and questioned it, my aunt would say the the birds or squirrels must have planted it. Not to sure he was fooled. 😊 Now in my garden, every summer I have to pull out a million baby oak trees often with the acorn still attached that the squirrels planted in the previous fall. Take care and be safe. Ciao👩🌾
Hi Philip and Anna, I found out that when the main center branch or the center trunk of the tree is cut (up high) like with the Holly, you will lose the tree quicker. Maybe you can cover the center trunk with a product or a patch to keep bugs out. A tree guy from around here told me that just last year. Holly trees usually live to about 100+ years. Cedar trees live 300 years. They might look dead sometimes but they go into a "hardening-off" in the fall to prepare for winter.
I was struggling with plant addiction and told myself I can get the indoor fig, jasmine and lemon tree when the wiring is done, thought going to dollar store was safe... they had ranuculous which I had never tried for $1.25. They are sprouting with my calla lily, ginger, tomatoes, 2 ferns and vinca all in one window with creative hanging that involves a cooling rack. You would approve.
I have the same addiction 😣. Every weekend it's the same -a full load of plants 🤑, come home, work until my legs can't move, swear I'll rest the next weekend. I need a support group. 😢 ETA -Phillip, PLEASE remove the bag from the root ball!!! It doesn't really decompose as they say it does!
This spring is going to be the best for you guys. You’re giving your yard a beautiful makeover with all that you’re doing outside. This will be fun to see! I hope you put up lots of bird feeders, bird houses & bird baths.
Superb choice of trees and plants Philipp. Especially as you are struggling with your trees & plants addiction. Your restraint is admirable - so brave!!! My humble addiction sadly (true story) is weeding😢 I just can not reign it in. So many hours wasted!! However, the positive of this is that I never run out of supplies and is totally free. As always, I sooooo love your videos Philipp and Anna and also your entire beautiful families. Much love from sunny, hot and humid, tropical Central Coast, Queensland, Australia 🇦🇺 🌴🍍🦜😎🌞🇦🇺
Philip I love listening to you trying in vain to make us believe something or anything. You are such a great influencer. This was a good episode. Thank you. 👍🇨🇦
Phillip, don’t be too hard on yourself. Your addiction is one of the reasons why you are my FAVORITE TH-cam influencer! Can’t wait to see the progression over the months and years.
Every year when I visit a nursery, I inevitably end up with several more plants than I originally planned for because they were simply too lovely to leave behind unclaimed. Very relatable, Philipp!
Lovely choices of plants! My partner is an arborist and he frequently stresses that the *trunk flare* of trees and bushes being exposed is INTEGRAL to the health of the plant! If it’s covered up with soil, the trunk is more susceptible to pests and rotting! Best wishes from Tennessee, USA!
I share your addiction and so does my husband, double the problem. Every time we go to a garden centre we return in what looks like a mobile greenhouse. We have lived in our house for 29 years and the trees we planted as saplings are now mature, so pleased we planted when we moved in. Warning we are still developing the garden. My husband has a second addiction cswbw (can't shop without buying wine) 😂
Thank for putting the right word on my disorder. I now own a 50 hect forest after a major crisis. I am on an agro forestry master degree at 55 years old to try to deal with my disorder. The university room is filled with people alike. You are not alone!
The landscaping is coming along nicely. You could certainly have worse addictions than trees and plants. The cherry picker is such a tremendous help when you have a large property with many older trees that need constant attention.
If I had a property as large as yours, I would be planting everyday. LOL... it's so satisfying to see someone else enjoy this 'addiction' as much as I do, and comforting to know there are more people in the world that sustain and protect the natural world with a little maintenance and a lot of heart. Thank you Anna and Philip!
Many of us have this addiction Philip :) .... it really helps the Earth to plant, plant, plant ... so be proud of it. Jerome and friend did a beautiful job. Your garden is looking very good. Still several feet of snow here Anna. Best wishes.
I think we all have our own particular little voices that speak to us. Haha! It’s so fun to see you so happy with your trees and plants. Everything will be beautiful. Have a good week.
Philip- the first step to recovery is admitting your addiction and staying happy as you say you are. Even if that entails buying more trees. You do have a very large garden to fill with trees. Am here for you if you need more encouragement or just someone to talk to!!!! ❤
Prediction (based on personal experience): Philip walks around gardens in 5 years, looks at tree, thinks "What was the name again?", later at dinner table, blurts out "Prunus Serrula!" and Ana gets slightly alarmed.
Fellow addict. Trust me, I can almost *feel* your joy at these new additions! Visit a plant nursery for a new pair of secateurs?....and come away with a trolley load of shrubs & trees, not quite sure where I'll put them. I still dream of the stunning Parrotia Persica I saw a couple of years ago, it's leaves turning gorgeous shades of yellow through to red and purple (and still plotting where and how I can fit that into my garden)!
I can envision how fabulous your landscaping will be. Honestly I could have written your introduction about trees whispering to you, “buy me”. I spontaneously bought 7 trees last spring and my back yard is only 16.5m X 10m. An addiction for sure. 🌳
We have had lots of snow in Canada last week and more coming this week; and we are into first week of March. When I go to the plant centre I have an addiction too and come home with way too many flowers and plants for my terrace, so I know the feeling. Then again when I go to a bakery, that’s another problem.
I feel your "pain", Philipp! I too have a very real compulsion when it comes to plants. Unfortunately I live only 2 kilometers from not one, but TWO very wonderful nurseries - the struggle is real every time I pass them. Fortunately I have enough land to plant away 🙂Well done for facing and admitting your challenges
The pain (mostly from muscle over-exerted trying to plant everything one buys) is real. In late Summer you will need to shop for bulbs to plant amongst your gorgeous trees and shrubs. It never ends! About all that grass turf that Jeremy scraped up - If you have a spot where you can stack it up like a dry stone wall with the grass side downwards, and then just leave it, within a year or so it will rot down into the best compost ever for your beds and plants.
YESSSS! Bulbs are wonderful. Plus, Philip can hide many more without anyone noticing, and in the spring he can say they must have spread all by themselves!!!
oh you're quite the ham, Philipp! such great acting that Hollywood may be calling you. Great specimen trees. They will look gorgeous!! thanks for sharing love your editing!
Phillip just cracks me up...with each new video wondering what he will profess! 🤣 Love all the trees, the garden will look wonderful, year after year. The property is beautiful and this spring and summer it will be so pretty. ❤
Dear Phillip I’m one of your enablers I’ve hidden it for years under a pseudonym. I too will come clean, my name is Mother Earth. You are not addict dear child you are simply one of my angels. I will continue to support you, if you will realize your calling. You’ve risen to heights of a warrior. Go forth, plant my earth ❤
I live in the United States and I started watching your videos and they have inspired me to do more in my life. Your videos inspire how everyone should live. To enjoy your life to the fullest. Your family is beautiful. God bless you all. ❤❤❤❤
Haha, love Phillip's wry humor. There was a long day of hard work for that tree 'addict'. Good job. The chateau grounds are going to develop beautifully. I look forward to seeing next year.
Thank you for your excellent choice of music. It's a refreshing change from other TH-camrs pop offerings. The high drama music for the trimming of the Holly Tree was very funny.
“A society grows great when old men plant trees in whose shade they shall never sit.” I’d say you are helping to build a great society. May you live to sit in their shade for many years and continue your TH-cam channel, too.
Best quote ever, "after two years as an influencer I know how to fake competence." Lol, love this channel!
🙌🏽☺️♥️
The humor in these videos makes them my favorite TH-cam channel. Philip...you are a star of humor! And Anna...we love you for your talents and patience with it all.
I have watched all 93 videos in your playlist over the last few weeks (!!) and take my hat off to you and Anna for still smiling after all the hard labour, trials and decisions. I am looking forward to seeing the long houses, stables and chapel restore to their former beauty...And the garden is going to be stunning as it comes to life this summer. All the best from Dorset, UK.
Thank you! Glad you enjoy our videos! (Anna's from Dorset as well)
😄
I have been binge watching as well. Better start doing my chores now😀😀
@@rhodealexandre6583 Haha, chores will be there tomorrow...
Once everything has been cleaned up it would be nice to have a drone shot of the property with a talk over of what you have done. Looks fabulous and great specimens!! will do!
Yes, it will be lovely to see it all sorted out. I'm sure you are mapping and labeling,,that's part of addiction you know,,,keeping track of all this!! 😆

So true!
The use of Beethoven really helped me feel Phillip's struggle and pain.
Ha! I was thinking the use of the Goldberg Variations in the hand of Glen Gould perfectly convey the hectic pleasure of tree planting 🎵
I also have a love of trees and I think your choice of ornamental trees is excellent - the Chateau will look magnificent when these trees get going.
Glad you like them!

Many of us have this addiction Philip :) .... it really helps the Earth to plant, plant, plant ... so be proud of it. Jerome and friend did a beautiful job. Your garden is looking very good. Still several feet of snow here Anna. Best wishes.
Suggestion: the big tree stump could be sculpted into an armchair to admire the newly planted trees 😉 The Tibetan Cherry Tree my favourite 🥰
I like it!
That is a great idea. 👍
I think we all have our own particular little voices that speak to us. Haha! It’s so fun to see you so happy with your trees and plants. Everything will be beautiful. Have a good week.
Glad to see Jerome is continuing to make this TH-cam channel.
Your plants are a wonderful addition and well done on leaving another positive stamp on the château inside and out!
Hahahahaha!
Ziggy's bark everytime you said "bark" (from the trees) made me chuckle. Thank you!
Glad you use your skills of a film maker to document your “addiction” . So proud to be a patron , love you all and learn so much too x
We have had lots of snow in Canada last week and more coming this week; and we are into first week of March. When I go to the plant centre I have an addiction too and come home with way too many flowers and plants for my terrace, so I know the feeling. Then again when I go to a bakery, that’s another problem.
I'm there with you. I'm getting ready to move and the little voice keeps picking out plants to take with me.
Your plants are going to be so beautiful. Ziggy is happy about the boxes.
Thank you, for the reply. I will check out the article.
Prefect time for woody plants and great to have help. Onward and upward into the plant realm with gusto, well carefully of course.
...I can't even imagine what CPBD withdrawal looks like......stay strong Philipp...🤨❤👍
Haha-I bet you get the shakes and your thumb turns green. 😁
Glad you liked it, thanks :)
You both were his life for over a year, love and condolences xx
Phillip just cracks me up...with each new video wondering what he will profess! 🤣 Love all the trees, the garden will look wonderful, year after year. The property is beautiful and this spring and summer it will be so pretty. ❤
All the specimen trees are going to be so beautiful!
These are some of my favorite vlogs!! Seeing Philip in a cherry picker, no. That's terrifying.
I'm so glad to see you gardening again.
When can we see the Chapel? Haven’t seen that yet! Your property is beautiful. Keep up the great work of retiring this beautiful place.
That is awesome! Glad to hear this!
Good luck, you could have a much worse addiction. Hope you get over it. You have such a beautiful house and family. Try not to over do it.
I love pruning plants, so cathartic and makes the energy spin.
Glad you enjoy it!
This was lovely and just the thing I needed on a gloomy cold Sunday afternoon in California.
Plant shopping, the struggle is real. Take care brother, praying for you in your hour of need.
So nice to see the lovely plants going in the ground. It will be beautiful!
Thanks for the light-hearted posting.
